Sept. 30 QKR Challenge #211 - Cut It Up

This week's challenge at  QKR Stampede is "Cut it up".  I did some different cuts - the die cuts for the main image, and scissor cuts for the paper pieced apron and the edging scissor cut for the tag. If you join in the challenge you can use one or more of these options - or you might choose to cut with a punch.  This is a lovely nostalgic image called Girl with a Basket.  I used papers from a DCWV stack called Heirloom.  The apron is paper pieced, and I used Prismas to color the rest.  The strip is Washi tape mounted on dark brown, and enhanced with gold and metallic cord.  I added shiny brown gems on the 3 corners.

Sept. 23 QKR Stampede challenge - embossing with glitter and sparkle

When I saw the theme for this week's challenge (embossing) at QKR Stampede, I thought about this snowflake folder for a wintry card.  QKR has this great digital image, "Snowy Cabin",  as well as the let it snow sentiment.  Since we are in AZ, I could use it to rub it in to some one in snow country.
I did not color the image, but used a lot of glitter on the trees and the snow - on the image and on the embossed snowflakes.
Cuttlebug Snowflake embossing folder;  glitter, metallic silver strip, Floral Garden Diamond ribbon wrap; glittery snowflake button..  The mats look black here but IRL they are dark blue.  I especially like the crisp look of the white and blue.

QKR Design team #198 - Christmas in July

It is time to  start thinking about Christmas, though it is hard to do when it is 110 every day!  I know, for those of you in the southern hemisphere that is usual for the holidays!  I selected the digital image "shepherd" and Merry Christmas to go with it- from the selection at QKR.  You may submit up to 3 entries by 3 p.m. July 7.
Last week the theme at QKR Stampede was paper piecing, and I decided to go that route again.  I pieced the head piece and also the robe.  In retrospect I wish I had found a better piece of DP for the robe - it needs a bit more color.  (If you have not done paper piecing, my advice to you is to select a fairly light colored DP so it is easy to see the lines to cut.)  I also used favorite style - lots of light colored embossing.  I used a shimmery champagne colored cs (Recollections) for embossing and stamping, as well as for the card base.  I do not yet have a "star" embossing folder, so I substituted the snowflakes.  I used a gold pen to color the rays of one, and topped it with a
punched from gold glitter cs, though it does not really show on the screen.  I also used a bit of cord with a metallic thread for the head dress.
If I decide to mass produce this card for Christmas I may just leave the image uncolored.  My preference is to  use the same image for all of our cards.

Spring song

I can hear the birds singing - at least, in my mind!  This image is from Our Daily Bread, Music Speaks.  The card is a bit of an experiment for me.  I have a whole pack of this double sided cs - black and cream stripes backed with solid cream, which I used for stamping the image.  The back of the card is also striped.  I colored with shiny metallic pens, trimmed with deckle edge scissors, and added Making Memories mini flowers with tiny black gems. The two strips are Washi tape.
ODBD:   o = outdoor;  ODB stamp;  d =  deckle edge;  b = bird, butterfly, black, beads, blossoms;     d = double row (washi tape); dimension.  Jo's - colors- black, red, green;  embellishments - flowers, beads;  technique - layering.

AI - Masculine birthday

The AI challenge is to use watercolor and highlight with white gel pen.  I used watercolor pencils and an aqua pen. I did highlight the hat and the arms of the chair as well as the star (it was a purchased die cut) - but they do not show up much on the screen.  (IRL I created a plaid pattern for the lawn chair.)  Embellishments include Washi tape, shiny dark gold gems and die cut grass.

Leaping ladies

I think this Art Impressions (pre-colored)  pop-up set, Enjoy the Ride, works well for challenges that include "leaping" - it is leap year, after all.  I just have no idea why they are running, leaping and jumping - just havin' fun!  (Actually, though, most folks of this generation probably ache too much to leap very high!!!)  The three gals and the purse are popped up on pop dots.  The sketch also gave me a chance to use some underutilized Washi tape!

Swing away

I do not really make New Year's resolutions, but I do try to keep some goals in mind.  One is to make better use of already stamped or printed images, and another to use some of th.e items I tend to avoid in favor of easier to use or handier ones.  Any one else have that happen?   Case in point - the Spellbinder Majestic Elements ovals - I like them a lot but just find the layering a bit of a challenge

Sympathy for Murrrel

This is for a friend whose husband passed away recently.  The butterflies are from two Soellbinder dies.  I used embossing folders by Darice (butterflies) and Cuttlebug (Victoria); some light gold ribbon and gems, and the Cuttlebug sentiment die.  I hope I have the right colors for the color challenge.

Christmas 2015 #43

(The bottom of the card seems to be absent!  Sorry...)
Another in my series.  The stamped image was an RAK; I added a die cut tag with computer sentiment; strip of ribbon, embossed panels.
By the way - Inspired by stamping team - I have not been able to contact you by e-mail or comment - some kind of computer glitch.

Christmas 2015 #41

This continues my series of similar yet different cards using an unknown image received as an RAK.  I used shimmery silver cs (Recollection) and added some shine with ribbon, glitter (on branches), and metallic gold on the star.  The sentiment is computer generated matted on a Spellbinders Labels 43.  The DP is from my stash.  I used torn edges to add contrast. The branches are Cheery Lynn dies.

Birthday wishes

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all.  Once again, we are reminded of all the blessings in our lives.  For some, the past year has been one of abundant blessings, yet I realize that for others the blessings are a little harder to see, and my prayer for you is that you will receive the strength and comfort you need in your lives.  Teri, at Joan's Gardens has expressed this so beautifully - thank you, Teri.
For us, Thanksgiving is often a quiet celebration, as we save our family get togethers for Christmas. We started with a most meaningful service at our church last evening, and will have a traditional dinner later today - we love the leftovers, so choose to do our own rather than eat out!  Eventually, turkey soup is a must...
For this card:  DP by Teresa Collins; Cuttlebug "diamond" folder; Spellbinder Blooms Two dies, clear gem; Unity Candles and Cake image.

Lazy summer day

This is yet another of the pre-stamped images from the Art Impressions pop-up collections - all ready to punch out and adhere to my card.  The sentiment is SU - Circle of Friendship.  The bg is by SugarTree - the design can be used for water or sky, and I embossed with D'vine Swirls (Cuttlebug).  Finishing touches are sheer ribbon and a couple of sparkly gems as well as a sequin on the umbrella.
