The New Blockaders / Coil / Vortex Campaign - "Dolbied" (Self Released) 1984

The New Blockaders with their Flemish cousins in Vortex Campaign, bring you more unadulterated Racket with chums, Coil adding something strange to the proceedings. I doubt Coil saw themselves as Nihilists, so that opens up the role of the noise and lack of conventional instruments to something other than the rigid dogma of the other Blockaders releases. As for Vortex Campaign, I know nothing about them, except that they are a couple of Belgian brothers, and,as far as I know, were never heard of again.....now that's proper 'Nihilism' in action.

Various Artists ‎– "The Elephant Table Album" (X Tract ‎– XX 001) 1983

Companion album to "Three Minute Symphony" compiled, again, by Dave Henderson ,late of the now defunct Sounds newspaper.Full of great tracks, even the 400 Blows track is fantastic, i think they went downhill fast after this single.
Its not perfect, (which is perfection?), as The Legendary Pink Dots do only a mildly irritating version of their Syd Barrett fans play with casiotone keyboards and pots'n'pans stuff.....still made me wanna punch somebody though!
We also got a minimal Coil track which is virtually a slow TR808 solo; dare to be minimal!
SPK on the cusp of becoming total Shite, the excellent Lustmord, Portion Control transmuting into their nasty vocals phase(which i'm not too enamoured about).
To sum it all up, it has its faults, but  a classic old school Industrial compilation, and a great starting point for the Industrial virgin to catch the 80's underground In flagrante delicto! (I don't really speak Latin by the way!)

Zos Kia / Coil - " Transparent " - (Nekrophile Rekords NRC05) 1984

This is the first appearence of Coil, the post Throbbing Gristle/post Psychic TV vehicle for Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson and John Balance (both, alas, now Deceased.)
Zos Kia was initially formed by John "Zoskia" Gosling along with John Balance and Min. This trio - along with Peter Christopherson on sound and other guests - recorded and performed several concerts in 1982/83 under the names Zos Kia and Coil, and this is the source of the material on the "Transparent" .
In 1983, Balance and Christopherson left to concentrate on Coil full-time. All material released under the Zos Kia name alone was primarily the work of John Gosling.
The music/non-music on this cassette has moments that are genuinely unsettling, and achieve that very rare peak in music, which is to sound , for want of a better word,....evil. A musical statement only achieved by very few composers, Nurse With Wound,Penderecki and Bartok spring to mind, but i am struggling to think of any more!(although i'm sure if i go away and come back later i can think of some!)
The bloodclotting screams(emitted by someone called Joan d'Arc?) on "Rape",for example, is a particularly tense white knuckle moment; marvellous stuff.
The work on here is far superior to that on Coil's first album, "Scatology", which i've tried to like, but have now given up on it as a bold effort in tying too hard; it just doen't seem to flow naturally like "Transparent".(and the same goes for "Horse Rotavator" too in my humble opinion.)
Later Coil releases , post 'dancey' phase, like"Musick to play in the Dark" and "Musick to Play in the Dark2",and their best album "The Ape of Naples" ,though, are beyond criticism.

Track Listing:

01. Zos Kia - Sicktone
02. Zos Kia - Baptism Of Fire
03. Zos Kia - Rape
04. Zos Kia - Poisons
05. Zos Kia - Truth

07. Coil - Silence & Secrecy (Section)
08. Coil - Here To Here (Double Headed Secret)
