Skullflower – "Exquisite Fucking Boredom" (tUMULt – TM212) 2003

Any of you cool kids out there like a bit of boredom going on?
As previously mentioned,in the Stanlow Crickets post, the Great Erasure is coming, like a huge electro magnet realigning your digital media into straight lines of zero's.Comedians and social commentators will be silenced, vetted and vetted again for controversial comments and opinions,Popular music will be obsessed with the easy get out clause of the Love Emotion, and how cruel un-chemically castrated males were before the new potential rapist law made sure that Toxic masculinity was neutralised by regular Brain scans and testosterone checks.I don't wanna offend nobody cats, but i reserve the right to be offended, and to offend ,and challenge tabboos. It is this that makes one "Free".
So here's the rather fantastic Drone Psych Noise Skullflower group, playing the same riff for 60 minutes;and it hasn't gone unnoticed that they have used my favourite Dr Rhythm DR110 drum machine for the dour four four beat that accentuates the exquisite fucking boredom very nicely indeed. Like that Joni Mitchell song says, one needs to look at life from both sides,or you really won't know life...at all?

Henry Flynt ‎– "New American Ethnic Music Volume 2: Spindizzy" (Recorded ‎– Recorded 006) 2003

Not sure who was first in the minimal drone violinist stakes, but Tony Conrad's one note tirades makes Henry Flynt look like Paganini.Although both of them run Nigel Kennedy Close in the geekiest made kool violinist stakes. But niether of them managed to get off with Mark E. Smiths missus,as,incredibly, Nigel Kennedy did!?.....just being sober-ish and mildly famous was probably enough actually!
Volume One,of the 'New American Ethnic Music' series was "You are my everlovin'/celestial power",which was previously released on cassette in West Germany;so i won't post that again?
This second CD has Henry Flynt showing us that he's a quality Bluegrass fiddle playing American primitive as well as an avant-garde thinker and composer;not something Tony Conrad was either proficient ,or, interested in.
So,if you're expectin' some long scraping drone works, you're gonna be disappointed. This is too authentic an anthropological throwback to allow such flights of fancy.
There are of course a couple of lengthy ethopological lock groove style pieces, that would have gotten Flynt lynched if he actually played them to a real drunken Hillbilly mob, rather than catering for the New York downtown intelligentsia.
All that's missing is an inbred relic from the post mayflower generation to whine some lyrics about killin' and hangin' and I reckon ol' Henry had achieved his quest to return to when life was simple, and the people, they were people I am told, were even simpler.
The only other Yankee, albeit an orange one with tiny hands, these charming simpletons would spare a lynchin' for is Donald Trump. The peasants are indeed revolting.

Various Artists ‎– "The American Song-Poem Christmas: Daddy, Is Santa Really Six Foot Four? (Bar/None Records ‎– BRN-CD-147) 2003

Ho! Ho! fucking Ho!
Indeedy, Americans sure know what Christmas is all about.
Without Christmas we wouldn't have these prime nuggets of  pure awfulness that manage to make the yuletide festivities even worse.
These tunes aren't as bad as a christmas song by someone like Meat Loaf, accompanied by a video with our loud fat friend dressed up as Santa. As Santa is an anagram of Satan, there has to be a special corner of Hell where this Meat Loaf xmas exists on an eternal loop......but as Hell is only, vaguely, mentioned twice in the whole bible, I'm confident that we are safe from that......for want of a better word....Nonsense!
These tunes from the MSR Song-Poem company, are unbelievably bad, but the right kind of 'Bad', that is....er...Good!?
If you didn't know, MSR were a bunch of musicians who advertised in the US press classified section, offering to put your poems to music. The lucky punter would then receive a vinyl single of their atrocious poem ,indeed, put to music.Quality control was obviously a secondary matter,as they had to arrange a few standard riffs and fit these terrible lyrics into some kind of melody, then record it,in little more time than it took to play the finished single.I shall be returning to the vast MSR archives in the near future, but this jolly Yuletide jamboree of shite will more than wet your appetite for more, jaw dropping badness in 2020!
So gather around your christmas table and sing-a-long to "Randy, The Li'l Elf" or the inexblicable "Santa Came On A Nuclear Missile", and bin off Crosby for another year.

Loren Mazzacane Connors ‎– "The Departing Of A Dream Vol. II" (Family Vineyard ‎– FV22) 2003

From this side of the barbed wire fence, we stand and watch the dream of our lost childhood trapped in a past. While we drift away into oblivion until those days before disappointment and experience become nothing more than a blurred dot viewed from the wrong side of the event horizon.
There's a moment in life,or an event, when innocence dies, and we are irreversably sucked into a black hole with no prospect of mercy. All that is left are foggy recollections of what it was once like to have hope.
This fuzzy minimalist classic evokes a series of black and white images that flash across your mind as one floats in a black and starless void waiting to cease existence. We are essentially alone with our own personal illusion, then without reason, it stops.
But, on a brighter note, at least we have music and football you cry!!??...no wait, football has been stolen by the elite, and music has been killed off as a creative and relevant force by....oh yeah...the fucking Elite again!!.....we certainly need some kind of Event Horizon! Something like reclaiming the wealth that has been stolen from 99.9% of the suffering population of the Earth, and jailing the perpetrators.
The politics of Envy they would label this while they flaunt their fleet of Bentlys in front of TV screens full of starving children advertising charity causes to further heap the guilt on their slaves.
The Politics of Envy?...I'm cool with that, as long as they don't mind the Politics Of Violence which will inevitably come in their direction.
I hear JayZee, has had discussions with survival experts on how to pay his security staff after the system collapses, and money is worthless. He already has a fully stocked bunker system under his mansion for his fat arsed wife and himself.
The answer is,Jay Zee....hang on isn't that my Initials too???....the answer is, that your security staff are gonna kill you and take your stuff.
In fact who wants to survive in a world where the only survivors are useless fools like Kanye West and I wanka Trump.
Well, I'm off to my Bunker now, to listen to Loren Mazzacane Connors, and await the arrival of Planet Niburu......and NO, I AINT GONNA LET YOU IN.....not even Jay Zee when he's screaming for his life.I'd have to think a few seconds about Beyoncé though....then, still say NO! Anarchy is a great leveller isn't it?
Oooooooh the basic thrill of power!(Tee Hee Hee Hee).....but alas, it is just a dream.Life is not a Disney movie after all, especially if you were sexually abused by the hosts of the Mickey Mouse Club, like mind-controlled trauma-bots Britney Spears and Justin Trousersnake.

Kneale/Campbell/Todd ‎– "British Steel" (Celebrate Psi Phenomenon ) 2003

By some strange coincidence, the UK Neil Campbell's mirror image from the other side of the planet is New Zealands Campbell Kneale of The Birchville Cat Motel . So naturally, they're gonna collaborate aren't they? Throw in Ashtray Navigations Phil Todd to keep the two Neils, or Kneales, apart to prevent them from cancelling each other out, and we have a noise super groop to end all sooper groops......yes even eclipsing Blind Faith.
In the world of particle physics, or even supernatural German mythology, one should never meet ones Doppleganger, or anti-particle, or you face the danger of the stronger self taking your place, or your anti-matter self cancelling you out to leave ........nothing.
I don't know wether this happened on these nights in Leeds in 2003, but the evidence that something creative occured rather than anything destructive is here to...er...hear?. I suppose, if you make a recording of yourself to prove that you existed, then the power of the Doppleganger would be negated? Can't say the same for Matter/Anti-matter scenarios, as the recording becomes a space/time event rather than proof that something will exist in future time.In fact its difficult to prove that future time will exist at all. This is, however, proof that we all definitely exist in the present. So while one plays these drones, the sound may change, but its only evolving in the moment......the next moment we may not even be alive to hear it.......so get listening to some 'British Steel', preferably not the album by Judas Priest, but this one with the two Neil Campbells on it, before its too late. Not that the concept of 'Lateness' exists in the space time continum, but you know what I mean, because I certainly fucking don't!

Autumn ‎– "I Invite" (Micrart ‎– MCD 8011) 1980 / 2003

More mellow ,inoffensive minimal beatless synth tunes agogo, from the very unbelgian Belgians in Autumn.
This one was a cassette release in 1980, but re-released by the reanimated Micrart label on CD-r in 2003.I'dhave used the original artwork if I could find it anywhere, instead of the awful turn of the millenium computer graphics that adorns this cd-r.This is also the ers from which Cd-r's started to disintegrate after a few years.CDs/Cd-r's really were the worst medium for music storage ever unleashed on the unsuspecting record re-buying public!
CD gripes aside, this really does sound like it could have been made today by some Serbian kids obsessed with the Minimal Wave era of 79-84........but,with the vital ingredient of 'the Drum Machine' very missing, crucially.
Can't really call it Ambient New Beat, well I can.......it's Ambient New Beat.
Maybe they just couldn't afford a drum machine, which is a better reason than any artistic/creative reason any day of the week!

The Scavengers ‎– "The Scavengers" (Action Records) 1978/2003

Also from the AK:79 album comes this posthumous album from The Scavengers, recorded in 1978.
Its that pubrock/original Punk Rock template of speeded up Chuck Berry riffs.....a style I can't get enough of. It also has that sweet whiff of those Outsider Punk groups from the arse-end of the UK, which gives it some much needed authenticity.
Things went downhill terminally for at least one member (Ronnie Recent/Brendon Perry), as he joined Dead Can Dance!!!!? As Ronnie was born in Whitechapel,London, he was probably responsible for the cockney inflections heard in the vocals.
A rather amusing addition to this album are the excerpts from a TV report on Punk Rock from the New Zealand media.Pure Gold.

Jandek ‎– "The Place" (Corwood Industries ‎– Corwood 0772) 2003

(Said in the voice of Marvin the paranoid Android): "Oh Goody, Its Jandek Monday Again. Life? Don't talk to me about life!...Oh God I'm soooo depressed!"

Another shop window dummies album cover to twin up with the bridal version for 'The Gone Wait' from the same year. This time Jan....can I call him 'Jan'?....swaps from detuned bass back to detuned acoustic guitar.
The weapon has changed but the effect stays the same. Like being hit across the face with a wet fish loaded with steel chains. Is life really this bad?.......i'm tempted to say 'Yes', or 'worse', but i'm sick of being labelled a cynic.....so I won't.....Yeah the existential torment of being an intelligent beast is great.....really, really good fun. That Jandek oughta lighten up a bit?.... Scheeech!
I'm going out dancin' now to express my Joy, while you miserable bastards stay in your bedrooms listening to Jandek moaning about shit we'd rather forget.

Tracklist:

1 The Picture 9:25
2 The Place 7:03

Jandek ‎– "The Gone Wait" (Corwood Industries ‎– Corwood 0773) 2003

NO....Jandek Monday hasn't ended....yet.The wait for the resumption has well and truly ....er.... Gone?
A poignant cover photo of dummy Brides for sale presages a grim future for human relationships...so say I!......Jandek, however, is more concerned with the 'waiting' aspect of existential human suffering. The spectre of death, or even worse, the spectre of eternal punishment, or even worse, eternal simpering lovliness incarserated in some an insipid prison posing as some kind of sick paradise. Fuck that, gimmie peaceful oblivion, gimmie escape from existence, gimmie Jandek in his detuned bass phase.
This is a great album, even by normal standards......but who wants 'Normal'????...thats the stuff Heaven is made of......like I said before...FUCK THAT!
