House Gift Card Folder

Hi everyone! I hope your holiday preparations are moving along. I don't know if it's like this where you live, but we give a lot of gift cards. Our family and friends are spread out all over the country and it's so much easier to mail a small gift card than an actual present. Giving the gift card in an pretty folder like this adds the just right personal touch.

There are lots of other ways to use this die though... If you are not a fan of gift cards, use it to make a fun interactive card- make one for a child and put a special surprise under the door opening. Another way to use it is as a photo frame. I have also cut off the door from matboard to make a nice thick tag.

Cherry Blossom Shadowbox

I live near Washington, DC and the cherry blossoms have just bloomed. I made a 3D shadowbox that keeps the flowers alive all year long.
Supplies:
657379  Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die - Index Card Folder
658052  Sizzix Movers & Shapers Magnetic Die Set 2PK - Heart & Label Set
657119  Sizzix Bigz Die - Leaves
657114  Sizzix Bigz Die - Flower Layers #9
657721  Sizzix Bigz Die - Borders & Hydrangeas

Other:
washi tape, twig, pink and white tissue paper, 2 thin strong magnets, craft foam, acrylic block, ribbon, white stamp pad, white lace scraps, glue, American Crafts- Dear Lizzy 5th and Frolic Pretty Parkway Scrapbooking Paper

Cut the die from pink matboard and trim off the flaps as shown.
Center and trace the label shape three times into a larger shape design. Place the folder in the Base Tray. Run it through the Big Shot three times and cut the window opening.
Die cut craft fun foam using the Borders & Hydrangeas die into two strips. Adhere evenly on acrylic block. Stamp chevrons with white ink all over the outside of the folder.
Place two opposing magnets along the edges of the box so they line up. Run a line of washi tape over the magnet and along the edge as shown.
Die cut a stack of tissue paper flowers using the smallest flower from the Flower, Layers #9 die. Put a brad in the center of the flower to secure layers. Scrunch all of the petals into the middle and fluff up. Lay the branch where desired and add flowers and leaves to the arrangement. Adhere all elements securely to box.

Stamp "spring" on corner of box and stamp a bird die on white cardstock and trim. Add to box. Tie on a piece of pink seam binding to top of box. Add pearl embellishment to knot of seam binding. Glue lace trim to bottom of box.

Enjoy spring, my friends!

Cake Slice Favor Boxes

Hi everyone! I'm here with a project for you from my Sweet Treats collection.
If you have a wedding, anniversary party, or other big event coming up that you need to make favor boxes for, the Box w/Lid, Cake Slice is a great one to use. You can fill it with candy, a small gift, a jewelry piece or whatever you can fit in there (box measures about 4 1/4" x 2" x 2") . This box is a ScoreBoard die specially designed to work with thick material like matboard and chipboard. It goes together really quickly and you can add so many special touches!
This box was made in my favorite color, aqua. First, I cut the die out from white matboard. (The sheets are 12" x 12", so you just have to cut them in half so they will fit through the Big Shot.)
You may not believe this, but you can emboss matboard! I started out in matting and framing and I can tell you, embossed matboard is very expensive. Now you can make your own!

Take the two triangular pieces and place them, one at a time, in a Textured Impressions embossing folder. You may feel a little extra resistance when rolling it through, but it comes out perfectly.
After you have embossed it, ink the raised portion of the design with a stamp pad. I use dye inks because they dry quickly.

Before assembling the project, make sure to fold each score line over 180 degrees so you break the fibers and it makes the project easier to assemble. Add strong double sided tape to all tabs and fold up into cake shape.

I decorated the cake slices with a tissue paper flower I cut using the Sweet Treats for You Sizzlits set, Leaves Bigz die and swirl from the Birds and Butterflies. After cutting and layering a stack of tissue paper flowers, I fluffed them out to give dimension and added a brad, leaf and swirl and adhered to the cake slice with a glue dot. A rick rack border was cut from some cool aqua shimmer paper with the Borders & Hydrangea die. I placed the paper fold inside the die cut line to make a strip double the size. For  more detailed instructions, look here.

Can't believe it matched my dishes so well :-)

Thanks for reading- see you in two weeks!
