Embellished Valentine’s Frame

Hello Sizzix Fans,
It’s almost Valentine’s Day and here is an idea for creating a last minute handmade gift for your Valentine!
Every year, I tend to add a few home decor pieces to my Valentine’s collection. This year I embellished a simple frame, using You & Me Thinlits set, by KI Memories and I Heart This Thinlits set, by Hampton Art.

I created a little frame using the male & female shadow figures that are so popular today.

First cut turquoise cardstock to insert in the frame. Cut a slightly smaller piece of polka dots paper. Next die cut the male & female shadow figures from the You & Me Thinlits set, using kraft cardstock, and adhere them to the right of the card frame as shown.
Die cut the sentiment, from the You & Me set and the comic bubble from I Heart This set. Adhere the letters onto the bubble, then adhere the bubble to the front of card.
Embellish with banner, labels, strass, hearts... If you want add stitches.
Add in the frame some twine. Lastly insert the card in the frame.

Buon venerdì a tutti,

Ho abbellito una semplice cornice, utilizzando You & Me Thinlits set, disegnato da KI Memories e I Heart This Thinlits set, by Hampton Art.

Materiali:
Sizzix Big Shot Machine (657900)
cornice (Ikea)
cartoncini
patterned papers
abbellimento di legno
spago bianco e rosso
scotch spessorato

A venerdì prossimo!

Valentine Garland

Here is a quick and easy decoration for Valentine's Day!

The die I used is the Garland from the Vintage Kitchen collection.

I have fond memories of cutting strips of paper and gluing them together as a child making paper chains to decorate our Christmas tree. But with this die is there is no need to cut or glue! Each strip has interlocking slots at each end and all you have to do is join them together!  Keep adding links until the chain is as long as you'd like. This is a great activity for kids to do too.

Make a chain to decorate for parties, special occasions, and seasonal decor. Hang flowers, letters or photos from it to personalize. There are so many ways to use this die.

It also fits around your wrist so you can cut it from leather or fabric to make bracelets! There are three different designs on the die. Each link can also be used as a bracelet and the negative space has lots of uses too (see here).

To assemble a chain, hold a strip with your thumbs over slots on either end and raise one hand above the other. Press one slot under and one slot up so one slot is depressed and one is raised. Now curl the strip so the slots meet and connect the strips to make a chain. Repeat. And that’s it!

If you want to keep this as a permanent garland, you can staples or glue the slots together. If you want to store it flat, just take the links apart and store for the next time to conserve space and prevent the chain from being crushed in storage.

Setting the table

With Valentines just round the corner, this month I chose a rather lovely bundle of Cotton and Steel blenders paired with some Kona Snow and the Equilateral Triangle Die (658663) with my Big Shot machine.

I'm not one for making a huge deal out of Valentines, but with the new year has come a renewed effort to rid my home of clutter.  Its working!  The easiest spot to de-cluttered was the table, often found piled with papers, laptop, post, handbag, ... you get the picture.  So what better than to celebrate with a new table runner.

I had a rough plan, which I mapped out on EQ7, so I knew to cut 22 patterned triangles and 70 background.  To manage my time and fabrics easier, I cut 5" strips from my fat quarters of cotton and steel, and the same again across the width of fabric for the background.  This meant I could manage the fabric cuts to maximize yield.

you can get 7 triangles from one FQ strip or 14 from a full width of fabric strip.  Layer up your fabrics and position them just over the previous cut line with each pass through the machine.

I started by making background half hexi's from 3 triangles. a total of 22 of these.

then laid everything out, to piece patterned triangles to the half hexi's and then into strips. Once you have 2 strips, joint these together.

Trim the ends, ensuring you have 1/4" beyond the points for seam allowance.

measure your top, add borders, mine were 4" finished, layer up, and quilt as desired.

Of course the pattern creates the perfect opportunity for some fancy quilting!

I trimmed up the runner after quilting and used the left overs from the fat quarters and the 2 1/2" strip die (658328) to cut my strips for a scrappy binding.

I'm really pleased with the result, and its making it easier to keep the table clear too!

If you haven't seen already, pop over to my blog to see what I used to keep the runner in place.

This runner is 60" x 24" and is just perfect for my table.  I hope you'll give the equilateral triangle die a go, and create something beautiful in time for Valentines too.

"Fly , fly my love " brooch

Hi everyone! Here I go with a new Valentine project. This is my first time using Sizzix dies for making a brooch and I have to say I love  the idea.
I have made a  cute and romantic brooch with  a lovely bird die by Brenda Walton and the little heart in the Stephanie Ackerman  die again.

Supplies:

658341

659958

657900

Thick white felt
Scraps of fabrics for bird and heart
Little scraps of decorative fabric
Double side fusible web
A tiny mother of pearl button
some of cream tiny ric rac
Machine black thread
Cotton  8  white thread
safety pin

This is a quick project , just you need to cut out the white felt, iron the fusible web on the fabrics for the bird and heart and cut out with the die and Big Shot machine.
Iron the fabric bird on the bird felt.

Sew  lines with black thread two times around , lay the little scraps of nice fabric with sequins in the middle of the bird and sew the vichi red heart with black thread too.

Now just sew the tiny button  with cream ric rac down and stitch by hand a cross stitch with white cotton thread next to  the button.

Add the safety pin on the back and you have it !! A cute brooch for you or  as a gift .

I hope you enjoy this new project I have designed for Sizzix. I will be wearing mine too !!
Have a wonderful week and see you next Saturday!!

Mercedes

Valentine square cushion

Hi everyone! I have started to plan some projects for next month and I just finish my first one.
It´s a cute square cushion using the Drunkard´s Path dies. I have chosen red and white colors , one of my favorite combo and perfect for Valentine Festival....... and it´s filled with an adorable lavender from the garden of a dearest friend of mine.
I used other die for the cute hearts , one of the last from Stephanie Ackerman. This die has some nice banners too.

Here it´s the back of the cushion with  the red heart button.
The size is 8" x 8" and 3" tall.

As I love embroidery I did something too.

Supplies :

657169

657168

659958

657900

White  and red printed fabrics for the drunkard´s Path blocks
Scraps of printed flower for the hearts
Two pieces of printed flower  fabric for the border ( 16.5"x 3.5")
Two heart buttons
fusible web
Red and white Cotton 8 embroidery thread
Stuff and lavender

Cut out the Drunkard´s Path quarter circle and fan ( eight pieces from  everyone ) and sew four and four making two blocks.
Then iron the fusible web to the fabric for the hearts.
Cut out four hearts with right face down.

Sew the hearts by machine with a decorative  stitch and do some embroidery with cotton 8 thread in the four corners like a flower and some french knot and some stitches in red around the circle with one thread.

Sew both side of the rectangle fabrics and pin around the top of the cushion .Take a look to the pics. Then add the other block and sew too leaving a hole to the stuff. Take out  and iron.

Now  you only need to add some stuff and lavender. Sew  with  an invisible stitch by hand and sew the two buttons and it´s done!!

I hope you  like this cute square  cushion  with a lovely smell of lavender  to say hello to February.
See you next Saturday!
Happy weekend!!
Love
Mercedes

.........................................***********************..........................................
