Live the moment... Layout

Hi Sizzix friends!

Today I show you a special layout for me. It is in a clean and simple style, I have used only a few materials, the ones which I found necessary to accentuate the feelings in the moment of taking the pictures.

As you can see, I’ve only used two dies, the circles Framelits and the Decorative Strip Scallops designed by Doodlebug. And then I’ve played with the papers and their colours to match the picture.

Here are some details:

I’ve die-cut circles in different sizes and combined patterns and colours. I’ve positioned the circles around the heart button to simulate the circles created by skipping stones on the surface of water. By doing this I wanted to give my son the message: “live the moment with your heart and grow happy”

I’ve die-cut this decorative strip and glued partially to give some movement.

I have used the following Sizzix products:

I hope you have enjoyed this clean and simple layout. Thanks for your visit!

Have a creative and happy Friday!

¡Feliz y creativo viernes!

Baby Love!

Seasons and themes come and go in the creative universe, one day you are decorating a hat with spring flowers and before you know it your putting the finishing touches to your Christmas cards!

The one constant throughout the year is babies! Here at Sizzix central we are welcoming back Helen from her maternity leave and at the same time we will be waving goodbye to Hannah as she starts her very own.

Sizzix is always here to offer a helping hand and this week we are giving you the opportunity to download a fabulous range of baby papers for free (love that word!) all you need to do to find out more is click on this link.http://www.sizzix.co.uk/new-baby-free-papers-signup

We don't really have a current range of specific baby dies so I have been forced to improvise once more, which can only mean my good friends Framelits circles and Scalloped circles sets.

I started with a circle die and a slightly larger scalloped circle die before die-cutting a blue and a pink spotty circle from the free papers. Next, I die cut two shades of yellow card using the scalloped circle before matting them together with the circles. I used a craft knife to cut away a segment from the blue spotty circle and I used a smaller circle die to cut an aperture in the pink spotty circle before decorating both with suitable ribbon.

I cut two rectangles of white card (11 x 16 cm) and attached rectangles of striped paper before rounding off the corners with a punch. Next, I cut two rectangles of the patterned paper before trimming one end into a chevron. I trimmed the 'Baby Girl' border motif from the embellishments paper before cutting the name 'UNA' from the alphabet supplied using a craft knife.

That's all the work done now comes the fun bit which is putting it all together of course!

As you can see I allowed the 'Baby Girl' border over hang the ends of the rectangle before trimming as shown. Next, I attached the two banners before mounting the assembled bib using adhesive foam pads. The letters which were cut out earlier were attached to white card before cutting around each letter to leave a slight border. The letters where then attached to the card using the foam pads.

You are probably wondering what happened to the other die-cut shape, well, it became the pram on the boys card below with a little help from a couple of threaded buttons.

So simple yet so effective! have fun!

Ring in the New Year

The title is a popular idiom in the English language, the meaning of which is lost to me, however when a good friend becomes engaged at this time then it forms the basis for a blog.

Before we spend the year showcasing  our new die collections which are many and varied, I want to go right back to basics and visit some old friends. Anyone who regularly reads this blog will know that I am rather fond of my Framelits circles, in fact I have placed every circle from every die set I own in one place so that I have just about every size imaginable at my fingertips.

I wanted to create a very simple card using very few elements so I started with the ring. I die-cut an aperture in a piece of gold card before placing a slightly larger circle die over the aperture so that it fits perfectly as in the third picture.

I know what you are thinking..... ' by the time I put this onto my cutting plate and then on my platform and then place my other cutting plate over the top and then run it through my machine, the die will have shifted and I wont get an accurate cut!'

This is a problem that we have all encountered at some point when we need to produce a really accurate cut. It could be that we want to crop a photograph or a stamped image or maybe we only have one small scrap of card over which the die only just fits only to find that either die or paper have shifted going through the machine.

Fear not my friends, help is on the way in the shape of the Sizzix magnetic platform for wafer thin dies which keeps the die/card exactly where you want it. I use it all the time and it never lets me down. Once my ring is die-cut I printed the sentiment onto kraft card and trimmed it to size before attaching the die-cut ring, a bow made from thin satin ribbon and a large adhesive gemstone.

I attached the assembled ring over a piece of patterned pink card onto a simple ivory base card using a stapler. It's quite simple and understated which is what I like especially as I am creating a series of over-the-top show stopping projects for our upcoming trade fairs.

Hope you like it?

Scalloped circles by Lilith

The nesting dies are some of my most used dies. I love printing texts onto cardstock and then cutting it out with the dies. It is so easy and changes from the usual label shape I usually use. For this layout I wanted to keep it simple and I was inspired by the constellation on the dark blue patterned paper. I cut out my text and some circles in the two patterned papers I had chosen. I placed them diagonally over the page and recreated part of the constellation with some wood veneer stars and added some hand drawn lines.
