700th Post!

Wow - I can't believe this blog has made it to post number 700! What started three years ago as the tongue-twistery lark titled MOVIES THAT MAKE YOU SAY 'HUH?' and evolved into DOUGSPLOITATION has been a sheer delight for me. Despite a busy life that includes a day job and producing and art directing TV and film projects, I've tried to keep my readers entertained on a daily basis - even it means "reruns" of previously posted blogs. Thanks to all you guys who pop by every day, once a week or even once a month. As long as you keep coming back, I'll keep blogging about the things I love. As Michael Champagne of PRETTY would say, "I do it for you!" Speaking of PRETTY, episode 3 debuts on Monday - and I've have another cast member interview right here as part of my ongoing DOUGLAS MICHAEL SHOW series. Have a great day and "friend" me on Facebook! (Don't forget to mention DOUGSPLOITATION)

My Two Year Anniversary

DOUGSPLOITATION turned 2 years old over the weekend. What initially began as film reviews on my VELVET CANDY BLOG, then spun off into a blog called MOVIES THAT MAKE YOU SAY "HUH"?, this here blog is an ever-evolving work in progress. From it's humble origins of just reviews of bad movies, I've added posts about TV shows, music, comic books plus THE DOUGLAS MICHAEL SHOW featuring interviews with people I think are super cool.
I've had a few rants and a near meltdown after Prop 8 passed, but for the most part this blog has been all about fun.
I've had days when I've had over 8000 readers (thanks to a little something called SONSEED) and I've had days when I felt like there was no one out there at all.
There's also been days when I feel like I should just stop this silliness and put my time and energy into something that actually makes me money.
For now, I think I'll just keep on blogging as long as it's fun. When it starts feeling like a chore, it will be time to give it up. So, if you're out there and wanna drop me a line and let me know what you'd like to see on this blog, feel free to contact me via the "comments" button below.

The Softer Side of Doug

Have you been to HELLO THERE CUTIE lately? It's my other daily blog dedicated to all things cute that I do with my friend Sherri. Each day we both contribute something adorable and make each other (and our readers) smile. Because the real world can be a very ugly place. And it's rated "G" - so you can share it with the young ones!

Give the People What They Want: Nudesploitation

Recently I asked visitors to my blog (via a poll) what they want to see more of on this here very site. Overwhelmingly "Naked Guys" was what they replied. Who am I to judge? So rather than turn "Dougsploitation" into an ADULTS ONLY site, I've decided to spinoff "Nudesploitation"."Nudesploitation" will stand on its own, under Blogger's strict CONTENT WARNING policy. Think of it as Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. I hope to make "Nudesploitation" as much fun as this blog, therefore I won't be repeating the same porn pix you see on every other gay adult site. "Nudesploitation"  will feature vintage nudes, rare celebrity nudes, offbeat collectibles and advertising-just about anything sexy and sometimes silly. So, check it out if you dare-or just continue to enjoy good, old-fashioned "Dougsploitation". There's nothing dirty going on!

Fat Tuesday & Other Missed Opportunities

Because I've been on a two-week road trip from LA to Orlando, Florida (and back) I've missed opportunities to blog about things such as Friday the 13th (the day, not the movie franchise), Valentine's Day, Abe Lincoln's big birthday and most recently Mardi Gras. Oh well, sometimes life happens and when your Disney hotel doesn't provide free wifi, it's just not worth the trouble of paying $9.99 a day for internet service.
So I apologize to my faithful readers and I assure you that once I am back in my home office I'll be back to my old blogging self with lots of new posts about bad movies, TV, pop culture and the part 2 of my tribute to the great African-American divas.

The Premio Dardos Awards

Last week, Dougsploitation was bestowed the prestigious Premio Dardos Award, and now it it my turn to dole out the honors to five of my favorite fellow bloggers. Of courses there are many other blogs that I enjoy on a regular basis, but these five are the ones that keep me coming back for more (for various reasons). So, with no futher ado, here are my picks (in alphabetical order):

COMICS AND THINGS - Tony Z's funny and informative look at what's hot and what's not in the world of comic books and collectibles. Also his GOLDEN AGE SUPERHEROES is a well-researched and fascinating look at many forgotten classic characters.DAVELAND BLOG - Dave's awesome collection of vintage Disneyland photos of memories is truly magical. Even if you've never been to Disneyland, this site stirs up memories of the child in us all. Dave's original artwork blog is also worth checking out.SHIRTLESS SUPERHEROES - What can I say? I'm a sucker for a half-naked super-hero. Who isn't? This site uncovers all the greats. You'll be amazed how many comic book characters spend as much time out of costume as they do in costume!THIS AND THAT - Not always safe for work, this blogger is self-described as "liberal, intelligent, passionate, sensitive, queer, activist-somewhat, music lover, dancer, frustrated, handsome, beautiful, sexy, libra, aggravated, aggravating, reactionary, reader, dreamer, perverted, witty..." What's not to love?
...and last, but certainly not least is the always safe for work VINTAGE DISNEYLAND TICKETS - more great Disneyland memories as seen thru and amazing collection of promotional materials and advertising. I'm constantly astounded by what I see here and inspired to make my blog as enjoyable.

Awards & Angels

Dougsploitation is proud to accept the prestigious Premio Dardos Award, bestowed upon us by the lovely and talented Marc Harshbarger of DEEP DISH. It is an honor to be recognized, so of course I'd like to thank Jesus - because you can't win an award without him. After all, "Jesus is a Friend of Mine".
This award is designed to recognize unique voices and visions on "the interweb" as well as to promote fraternization/community spirit amongst bloggers of all sorts. The way this award works is: once received you (meaning me) must nominate five other blogs that you think are worthy of the award and then they will each choose five and so on and so forth.  Sounds like fun - but to be honest I've had a long busy day and I don't want to unfairly judge other bloggers at this very moment–so instead please enjoy a two new preview episodes of CHICO'S ANGELS starring my glamourous friends Kay Sedia and Frieda Laye.

This Blog Turns 1 Today!

Wow - time really does fly when you are having fun! One year ago today I launched this blog. Originally called MOVIES THAT MAKE YOU SAY "HUH?" - the focus was mainly on bad movies that I love. That first day alone, I posted 5 reviews that first appeared on my other blog, VELVET CANDY ENTERTAINMENT (which was created mainly to promote projects that I produce or work on, like SOCKET, SCREENING PARTY and REUNION).The five first "Huh?" reviews were 1) POOR PRETTY EDDIE - famous for poor pretty Leslie Uggams getting raped while scenes of dogs copulating are intercut. Just plain nasty! 2) THE TEACHER - in which DENNIS THE MENACE star Jay North goes nude. Yikes, Mr. Wilson! 3) THE FAT SPY in which Phyliss Diller shares the screen with Jayne Mansfield! Zoinks! 4) SOMETIMES AUNT MARTHA DOES DREADFUL THINGS which must be seen to be believed and 5) THE GARDENER featuring sexy Joe Dallesandro naked, as usual. Also on that first day, I counted down my TOP TEN MOVIES THAT MAKE YOU SAY "HUH?". That was fun to do.In December 2007, I introduced the concept of the "HUH?" HALL OF FAME - and soon inducted the legendary Liz Taylor and fantastic Faye Dunaway into the membership. In August 2008, I decided to expand my scope and include all of pop culture into my blog - and so DOUGSPLOITATION was born – starting with a look at the Peignot font and how the opening titles of the MARY TYLER MOORE Show and THE ABC MOVIE OF THE WEEK shaped me into the blogger I am today. (See my DOUGSPLOITATION logo for reference)On Sunday, August 25 everything changed when I decided to post a video of a band named "Sonseed" performing "Jesus is a Friend of Mine". As I've said before I've owned this videotape for 25 years and NEVER thought it would catch on the way it did. The rest is history. The best part about the whole experience (other than gaining 4000 readers each day) is that I've been instrumental in reuniting the lead singer Sal with many of his former bandmates and friends. Which, I think, is the coolest thing about this here internet -it brings people who belong together - together! Looking forward to sharing my silliness with you folks for many years to come! - peace, Doug
