REDD KROSS -Neurotica

1987,Redd Kross's LP ,Neurotica was released.I bought it on vinyl when it came out, still have it,this rip is from my LP.All the crackles are intact for that warm analog feel. They always had,and still have, that groovy 70's vibe, like a modern-day Partridge Family.Their look, sound, and attitude is total 70's worship, which ,like, somebody has to carry on,right? No one does it better than these guys.I also tacked on several tracks they did on the "Lovedoll Superstar" soundtrack, some with the Lovedolls, one by themselves, and one under a different name, where they are nearly unrecognizable. My friend Jeff "Fred" McDonald, passed away last year, and he coincidentally had the same name ,(and he looked identical, nearly, bottom right corner dude, yep, that's him!), as one of the brothers on this LP,so this goes out to him,and I posted this as a request from Vance Burdge,my good friend, who could not find this masterpiece online,(I have since tracked it down on youtube).Good times for all,I cannot disagree! On a side note, the masks pictured on the front (and back) cover ,were previously used in one of the many 60's surf movies,Frankie and Annette,I believe the masks were in a haunted house ,maybe at a carnival or amusement park? I can't remember the name of the flick, but I have it on vhs,and have watched it,and all those goofy surf movies, multiple times.Fun fact. Also Ihave lots more Redd Kross stuff on this blog,including,out-takes and demos from this here LP,also Red Cross demos ,first album,as well as other sundries and surprises.

REDD KROSS - Teen Babes From Monsanto

Yup,Them McDonald boys whipped up this collection of some of their favorite covers back in 1984.I mean Kiss,The Stones,Bowie,The Stooges,The Shangri-La's,a Boyce and Hart tune I saw Serena (Samantha's cousin) sing on Bewitched once, and a cover of themselves.I also tacked on bonus cuts from various compilations they appeared on,some are covers,The Go-Go's and The Beatles may be covered ,as well,in keeping with the tradition established here. They have always been a covers type band ,but usually pick rarely heard songs, and make them their own.Or well-known tunes that they can tear the roof off of. A direct rip from my vinyl LP. Dedicated to the memory of Jeff "Fred" McDonald, and to my pal Vance Burdge.

FREAK THEATRE 7"

Another single outta NJ ,from the dreaded Heat Blast Records. This kinda reminds me of latter-era Redd Kross ,in all their 70's cum 90's hard rock ways (with a bit of a harder edge!). Just what you'd expect from NJ's answer to Seattle's scene. Try finding any info on these guys ,impossible!

REDD KROSS-there's a mrs. kravitz in the pit!-the neurotica demos

Paying tribute to yet another cultural icon in the title, the first track here,"Glad To Be Gladys",is an unreleased rarity. Also has early rawer versions of,"Janis,Jeanie,And George Harrison",and one of my faves,"(Ghandi Is Dead,And I'm The)Cartoon Man".There is also a thankfully truncated(47 seconds) version of the stinker,"Love Is You".It all ends with the hippie dream-like,"Beautiful Bye-Byes",although all these are given earlier titlings. On Swordfish Mailorder out of the U.K.

REDD KROSS-smith family #1-flexidisc

This ,i believe,is from the third eye sessions, and was in a 90's magazine ,called Reflex. Not a bad tune, the lyrics are a bit cheesy ,at points.Good unheard tune from the mcdonald bros.

COUNT ZEE

This was sent to me free when i ordered some 7"'s, back in the early 90's,(if I remember correctly,it was GG Allin and also some Redd Kross boots),a hardline straightedge punk band, with metal trappings. Some is trippy effects guitar solos with crazy undecipherable lyrics.Lotsa instrumental breaks, acoustic guitar ,and such.not your typical straightedge, not aping Minor Threat,or 7 Seconds, and not like NYHC,but a thrash metal sound of their own.It was on a blue flexi, which accounts for some surface noise.Highly rare and sought after collectible amongst straight-edgers,world-wide! 11 tracks, the longest is,3:o6,next longest,1:42,all the rest 1 minute or less! They ain't no Minutemen though,I can assure you of that.

FRED-jeff mcdonald NOT formerly of redd kross

fred( jeff mcdonald NOT formerly of redd kross),vocalist and semi-lyricist for the fun sluts and the phone sluts, goes solo here, with a little help from me.starts off all fred on the first track, scary.i help out with the music on a sonic youth cover, and do some vocals on another number, fred does a couple of hip-hop rap songs as well.should have recorded a few more,as it was starting to hit a stride as it went on.not as together as the fun sluts,or as experimental as the phone sluts, but it is trippy in it's own right.if you know fred, you have to have this, and if you don't know fred, well, you're lucky!just kidding fred, don't get all pissed off!
