Featuring Richard Lloyd (no,not that one!) and Barbara Carrera (no,not that one!) ,another new wave band outta Miami ,FL 1985.The Cars,Tom Petty,& Richard Hell ,come to mind while listening to this. Real cheesy new wave music and lyrics and vocals ,this is the shit! Included in the zip file ,is a flyer from my band ,Buzz Workshop ,and we used this band's pictures ,as our own! Ha ha!Another group of cuban/latinos ,cutting out their piece of the American dream. Power-pop for the masses! Pre-saging the use of the word "alternative" ,as it related to music ,and a premonition of the cover of the first Suede album ,with 2 androgynous faces.

SECRET SOCIETY - Too Blind To See

A new-wave ,alt-dance band ,classified as "free-style" in 1987 Miami. Sounding (and looking) much like Duran Duran ,The Cure ,and Depeche Mode ,combined ,with a few other influences thrown in the mix. I gotta say ,the last number ,the stupidly titled instrumental ,"69" ,sounds almost note-for-note like George Michael and Wham's hit ,"Careless Whispers". Apparently people raved about this cuban/latino group ,back then. Pretty fucking derivative ,if you're asking me. Memories of 80's teen flick soundtracks will fill your cranium! The album looks more goth than it actually is.

MC SHY D - Shake It b/w It's Just My Caddy

Cousin of Afrika Bambaataa , produced by Luke Skyywalker (of 2 Live Crew) ,and boasting of 4 tracks ,when they only give you two! It says on the label (house mix) and (instrumental) ,but neither of those actually show up. These are ,I believe ,alternate mixes of tunes from his 1988 LP ,"Comin' Correct In 88" ,and this was his fifth 12" single. MC Shy D , or Peter Jones ,as his friends like to call him ,succesfully sued Skyywalker Records for 1.2 million in unpaid royalties.Sporting the Miami bass sound ,"Shake It" ,has been used in dozens of "big booty" vids ,with girls shakin'their asses all over! While ,"It's Just My Caddy" ,could be used as a professional golfer's theme song. Now leading a second life as a DJ at a sports bar! Free crab legs w/purchase of a drink! The record label's warning reads: "unauthorized duplication will get you messed up by the ghetto style dj's" Should I be scared?

THE FLORIDA PLAYERS - We've Got A Winner b/w Experiment

A funk outfit ,apparently from Florida ,though no info could be found on this group.Jazzy,funky rhythms drive this shit home!Recorded in Miami in 1977 on Drive Records.Not much of an experiment on side b ,either. I was hoping for a free form jam ,but it's pretty structured ,and has a title that has nothing to do with the sound going into your earholes!

THE DOUGHBOYS - Shine e.p.

Shine was their only hit. The other 2 tracks here are far better,with their signature Husker Du sound. I saw these guys back in the day with All at the Cameo Theatre ,a fine ,now sadly defunct , Miami Beach punk club , and they were quite astounding.Better than this.Canada,ugh.

THE 3 CRAPELLEROS

The debut of the latest Sluggisha sensation,The 3 Crapelleros! Although they come from 3 corners of the nation, Bob Marley (South Dakota),Mr. Sandwich Pants (Ohio),and Schmendrick McDoinkle (Miami,Fl),pull off an acapella tour-de-force! Imitating machines,telling long-winded,weird stories,doo-wopping,word association,just general noise-making,and tomfoolery!And ,as an extra-added bonus,all 3 guys ,each do a stand-up comedy routine,recorded live,at Jerry Lewis' Supper Club,in Miami! With rimshots,and a rowdy audience,this is one of the best ding dang doodlerock albums,in recent memory.There are no instruments on this album(besides the snare/cymbal combo,on the stand-up segment).Give them praise,for more,more,more ,of this happening sound!

STRAIGHT YOUTH-together we can do it!

That title sounds like something from the Obama camp,only from 1990,Miami.Kinda like a parody/tribute to straight-edge,much like Crucial Youth.This trio plays great tunes,hardcore lyrics,and some humorous bits.Lots of funny notes and pics in zip.Shoulda stuck it out for at least one more single.Almost coulda been the next Youth of Today. 4 And A Half Fingers Records,thanks Emil !!

THE HUMAN ODDITIES-the earth will shake!

This 7 piece from Miami,early nineties,has the classic male/female vocals,found in such great bands as X,or Blatz,but not the rockabilly sound of the former,or the hardcore stylings of the latter.They sing about(in this order),the Frankenstein monster,drinking alcohol,Henry Lee Lucas,the Loch Ness Monster,(with a chord progression lifted from the Child Molester's tune,"Wholesale Murder"),Big foot,Blackbeard the pirate,and finally Ishi,an indian brave.Very diverse,one tune has sax,reminiscent of X-Ray Spex.This is actually 2 seven inch singles.Their first single was pressed with the labels on the wrong sides,so they got it free ,and passed it on for free ,along with their 2nd single.Good stuff!From Emil on 4 And a Half Fingers Records.1992 .Comic strips,notes,pics,and lyrics in zip!

CAVITY

THE CRUMBS

This is a little comp. I put together,due to the lack of CRUMBS stuff on the web,really hard to find.Some of this came from various early comps.,Hot Curly Weenie,We're Addicted to Dayquil,A Slice Of Lemon,and Nuclear Winter.Stuff from the 1957 sessions in addition to,All Tangled Up 10",and I Fell In Love With An Alien Girl 7".Lots of cover art ,lyric sheets,pics and posters in zip file.One of my favorite bands of all time,rising from the ashes of another of my faves,Chickenhead,(get their 7" elsewhere on this blog,awesome).I hope these guys ain't mad at me ,I love 'em,and want to share them with the world.Sexboy almost played with the Crumbs a few times,but sadly,both deals fell thru.Miami rocks,the Cameo Theatre rules,and the Crumbs are the shit.Includes their early era stab at The Eat's"Communist Radio".Simply exquisite.G O D

CHICKENHEAD-everything must go!

usually if you do a search for CHICKENHEAD on the web you get some kinda crappy rap song,but not anymore,now that we have this post,a tribute of a bygone era,went too fast.this is the kind of 7 " that would make ashey slamdance thru the house.

this is punk rock to the max.on a black flag damaged era tip,these guys gots the sound down.i wrote to emil at 4 and a half fingers records a lot in the day,and almost lined up a few gigs for SEXBOY to open for the CRUMBS,but alas it fell thru.wish CHICKENHEAD lasted longer,but they eventually formed into the CRUMBS.which i will post some of soon,mostly the early singles,stuff from a couple of comps,and the 10".but this is pre-CRUMBS,and let me tell you it rules.don't even second guess this ,just download it.lots of bonuses in the zip file such as,pics of inserts,t-shirts-and stickers.get this now!!G O D.p.s. these guys are from miami,fl.
