GOOBER SINGS - And George Lindsey Is Goober

GOOBER IS DEAD!! First MCA ,and now this!! This is Goober's little known album of classic blues/country/bluegrass/gospel covers ,and a few originals for which George penned the lyrics. The aforementioned songs ,are the best on here ,and you would be wise to skip right to them before taking in the rest. "That There's Big With Me" is one of the best novelty/country songs ,never heard! Sung in the character of Goober ,as well as ,"I Ain't Good Looking (But I'm Mighty Sweet)" ,with a gaggle of girl backround singers cooing the chorus! Another good novelty tune here ,is from when the spin-off of the Andy Griffith Show called ,"Mayberry R.F.D." aired. I guess George kinda had more of a starring role in that series ,and tells you all to ,"Write Me,R.F.D." The rest are covers by the likes of Huddie Ledbetter! ,Nat Stuckey,Sonny Curtis, and others. I had this in a pile of stuff to post ,and ,like Paul a few weeks back,George died before I could post it!He was 83 ,that's pretty old,but I just saw Dick VanDyke the other day ,and he was full of vim and vigor at 86! And his new wife ,while no looker ,is only 40! But Goober deserves to be heard ,the songs I mentioned are some of the best work of his career!R.I.P. Goober!

ShaMaMo

The debut of an all new band featuring GOD ,Dylan ,and The Katter. It is a multi-faceted experience ,with songs of varying lengths and textures. Classified as a dissonant/prog/space/punk/blues/noise band ,this shit really grabs you by the boo-boo ,and tears it the fuck off!! The shortest number is just over a minute ,while the longest clocks in at almost 27 and a half minutes! This is experimental progressive rock ,in the vein of The Godz , Chrome, early Pink Floyd, Hawkwind , The Dead C , maybe even a little of the ol' Cat Machine!
Just really great tripping stuff ,good for drinkin' to ,and just zoning out and listening. You will be transported to another dimension! I hope to do more of this band ,if the response is as good as I am expecting ,this band should be around for light-years to come! Front cover art by Eric ,customized by GOD ,back cover by GOD.

KAAGOOTAABAA & HIS CHRISTIAN BAND - No Cussin'

John Kaagootaabaa sings on these couple of tracks ,that are both just over 2 minutes each. His reborn again christian pal ,Johnny ,plays guitar. The first number is a psych/blues workout ,while the second track starts out sounding almost oriental in nature ,and instrumentally like a keyboard ,but soon evolves into a blues rocker. Vocals are distorto-flanged on both ditties. This is a neat diversion ,on the way to the next full-length Kaagootaabaa album.

M.C. OSSO - Umbra Penumbra

This rarity has been asking to be uploaded forever! Look it up on the web ,you won't find any info on this record or M.C. Osso ,anywhere! Great revved-up (sometimes) ,and mellowed-out blues songs ,with a folky bent on some tracks. There is some harmonica and bongos here, and M.C. is backed up by Tio Frijol & The Soul Casserole (Tierra Del Fuego's finest!) ,and you'll also hear some flute, sax, piano ,and organ in addition to Mr. Osso's fine guitar jams! From 1974 ,recorded in New York ,on Axe Records(a division of Hardedge ,Inc.) ,and with that record company name and logo(see lower corner of album cover) ,you'd be expecting some metal or in my case some Mentors! But ,alas ,it is not to be ,this is just some jukin' blues that everyone should hear. The really downtrodden stuff comes on tracks like ,"Chances For Survival" ,and "Executioners". There's even a song that should have been featured on a movie soundtrack from recent times ,"Superbad Blues" ! I could definitely see (and hear) Dylan Houser ,settling into this sound as he grows older with his Bloodponies project.Pretty neat-o stuff ,and rare ,apparently!

ONE FELL SWOOP - Songs By Slobs

There are covers of The Cars and Alvin Lee's Love ,on this outing! The songs have a cohesive bluesy feel ,laid on top of indie-punk ,alt-rock foundations. Some really fine experimental arrangements ,and furious drumming on our home made drum kit!Recorded 12/10/1991 at Cat Machine House ,20 years ago today! Ed,Joel,& Chipmonk thank all of you ,for downloading ,and enjoying their bedroom punk music ,college rock ,to be sure. They only wish for more comments ,and thank those who have commented! A few days after this we formed the band "Stimpy" ,a noisy jazz combo ,which can be found elsewheres on this blog. fuk u h8rs!

ONE FELL SWOOP - Two Cannonball Dinner

Rounding out the "balls" trilogy today ,we have an album from 12/3/1991 ,from the underground losers ,One Fell Swoop. This is the pinnacle of albums dedicated to the downtrodden ,homeless, drunk ,junkie ,loser ,in all of us. Even the song titles spell it out. I did notice that all 9 songs are titled with three word phrases. Starting off with an almost 13 minute instrumental jam ,"We Haven't Smoked" , (although it does sound like we did ,in fact ,smoke!) ,and a sound that will knock your drunk ass to the couch ,so's you can listen and enjoy the rest."Real Hobo Smell" ,a tale of being a bum ,a tramp ,a hobo ,"Cough Syrup Summer" ,cuz it's a cheap buzz , "Burned Out Believers" ,for the beat-down by religion losers ,"Geez , Naw , Thud" ,a dreamer's soliloquy ,also include in the live set list of the band ,"Pot So Smart" ,for the pot heads who can't get jobs because of piss tests , "The Wheezing Monument" ,for the elderly who don't wanna go into a home ,or have their car taken away ,"Frozen Hamburger Shower" ,for the junk food we must eat to survive ,and ending off with ,"Rubber Dollar Bill" ,for everyone who's ever been fast-talked or scammed! The music is cohesive with a bluesy bent.As always ,we switch vocal/drum/guitar duties frequently. Really great band ,with another winner of an album about losers!

BUCKY CRAWFORD - Red , White And The Blues + Red , White And The Blues On 45 !

This is one of those great albums that you can play at different speeds, and it sounds good either way! If you listen to "On 45" first ,you'll wonder how it could possibly be any slower ,sounding like a rockabilly/jazz instrumental combo. If you listen to the 33 rpm version first ,you'll feel the blues vibe kickin' you in the back of your head! And you'll be wanting to lift out of that bluesy fog ,so kick on the 45 rpm version ,and start livin' ,boy!Keyboardist ,Bucky , is compared to Fats Waller on the back of this lp (they mispell it as "Waler",huh?) ,but that may be a far stretch. Listen to both versions and tell me which you prefer ,33 0r 45? Thanks.

ONE FELL SWOOP - Widgets

A baker's dozen (that's 13 ,for all you non-bakers) ,of hits ,verging on being the most downtrodden sounding bunch of blues songs ,you may ever hear. Right off the top ,Gramps is bitchin' ,as we go into ,"The Shithead I've Got To Be" ,my life story.Another one that ended up on the live set list ,"Pain In My Dreams" ,is here in it's original version. Some of my personal favorites are here, once again , written by listening on the other side of the house ,thru several walls ,trying to dechiper guys like ,John Lee Hooker,Lightnin' Hopkins,Leadbelly,Blind Lemon Jefferson ,and what they were saying."Wait On Bolos" , "I Treated You Wrong" , and "Mean Spider Evil" (the last few seconds of which ,gave us the album title!) ,are some of the finest blues-rock ,alt punk songs ever written! Chipmonk went totally bonkers on here ,on all his songs ,he is funny as hell! "Fo' What Munchin' " ,"Bristly Bag O' Yogurt Bones" , "Crowded Tower Toppled Boat" , and a cover of Gary Numan's hit ,"Cars" ,all get the Chipmonk treatment ,and it is great! The final track is one of my all-time favorite OFS songs , "Pretty Shaggy Laundry" ,it's comedy/blues/punk ,which I could barely sing ,as I was in a riotous (and righteous) laughing fit!
Really good songs ,and music, and as we continue ,it just gets better and better! One of the best tapes in their catalog! Recorded November 19,1991 ,Twenty years ago today!

ONE FELL SWOOP - Prepare My Dome

With a Chipmonk lookalike on the cover, and more of the downtrodden ,blues sound ,that they were playing at the time, this is another winner! One from the set-list is here ,Chipmonks
's moment ,"Out The Way" ,kind of has a Sonic Youthy feel to it. "Ringing Water" starts it off and some of my favorite tunes follow ,(tho this thing is not to be missed),"Gun And You" ,and "Tired Of Self". The most surreal and "One of these things just don't belong" moments on here ,is the last track ,"Dirt Throwing Crowd Screaming Nazi" ,a joyous sing-a-long ,that you will be singing along to ,whether you want to or not ,as it will become imbedded in your brain-meat.Also an appearance by Gramps on , "Do They Sell Dirty Blankets At The Store?" ,for comic relief. Recorded 11/16/1991.

ONE FELL SWOOP - She-Ass

Some of the best songs we ever did are on this tape! The blues influence really sets in on this one. With tunes like ,"Cut Me In Again" , "Wallet Baby" , "Crazy Women Lie" , and the #1 hit , "Red Letter Day" , amongst others, we truly hit our stride.I wrote these by playing old blues tapes ,and hearing them on the other side of the house, thru several walls, trying to decipher the old bluesman's words. One dozen soon-to-be classics of the alt-rock persuasion ,and the end piece freak-out ,"Life To Our Enemies" ,is a sonic blowout! I couldn't decide on the cover art ,so you get 2! Enjoy!

ONE FELL SWOOP - Goddamn You Rabbits

Whoa!!!!! The last song here is a 3 part suite entitled ,"Squabble Starving Tonic" ,and it's like 45 minutes long! There are many more fine cuts here as well. Another swipe at Sonic Youth's ,"Cross The Breeze" , a sermon ,"Raw Dog" , as well as more cryptic crud. This is where the Swoop ,starts picking up on a blues vibe ,which followed them till the end. The lead-off track title , "Personal To Mickey Thomas " ,came from a scathing Robert Christgau review of one of Jefferson Starship's late 70's albums. And here is Bob ,with that review ,reprinted here ,for your convenience, and pleasure:

Freedom at Point Zero [Grunt, 1979]
Hawkwind-goes-commercial leads off one side, Foreigner-hurries-home the other; both cuts are catchy, both sexist tripe. The rest of the album is a familiar muddle of fixations: space travel, good-time, the deluge, the possession of pretty girls. Personal to Mickey Thomas: ain't nobody gonna boogie to the moons of Saturn. C-

Fuck Jefferson Bullshit!! here's the real low-down on music .recorded Oct. 1 ,1991

LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS - Blue Lightnin'

A swell comp of some of the finest blues ,from a real bluesman. "Wig Wearin' Woman" is my pick hit on this ,although I can't argue with "Morning Blues" and "Fishing Clothes" ,and the rest follows suit. Cool ,daddy-o!
