Yup,Them McDonald boys whipped up this collection of some of their favorite covers back in 1984.I mean Kiss,The Stones,Bowie,The Stooges,The Shangri-La's,a Boyce and Hart tune I saw Serena (Samantha's cousin) sing on Bewitched once,and a cover of themselves.I also tacked on bonus cuts from various compilations they appeared on,some are covers,The Go-Go's and The Beatles may be covered ,as well,in keeping with the tradition established here.They have always been a covers type band ,but usually pick rarely heard songs,and make them their own.Or well-known tunes that they can tear the roof off of. A direct rip from my vinyl LP. Dedicated to the memory of Jeff "Fred" McDonald,and to my pal Vance Burdge.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - St. Patrick's Day 2012 Live At The Swamp III

Happy Easter ,everyone! Here's 4 bands on the Brown Bear Records label ,had a little party/living room gig ,on St. Patrick's Day ,and recorded the whole affair. Jake Joyce ,of Seasonal Men's Wear ,Nacho Knees ,and other bands and projects ,goes first with a set of topical holiday covers ,all done acoustic folk/punk style. Next up ,representing the Black Metal underground is Severed Vein. Then G.A.T. ,takes the stage ,and blasts out a few rounds of poppy punk stylings.And finally the duo of, The Dirty Heels ,featuring the lovely and talented Danielle (my new favorite female vocalist!) ,on the smooth,sultry ,and sexy vocals backed by Tommy on guitar ,slingin' covers ,and originals (mis-titled ,the real titles are: track 15 "Faking It" , track 17 "All I Wanted") ,that sound like oldies cut from the same cloth as the covers!. This is a great release ,and everyone should enjoy it! Props to Jake for sending it in ,and all the bands for getting together for this release!

ONE FELL SWOOP - Live At The Draft House 2/7 or 2/14/1992

It's a mystery when this show was recorded. It's listed on the cassette cover as the 7th ,but on another mix it's listed as the 14th. I put up the flyers from both shows ,one of which was not recorded ,at least I could not locate it in the vault.Black Nerd only played with us once ,and this was not the time ,despite the flyer. Pillows ,was a Michael Griffin (rip) noise project ,and I'm not sure about the Nomadz ,but I do know Boneshaker's original name was The North Cape Nomadz ,then TRV , for Tony,Ron,Vance ,the boys in the band.This is not your typical OFS live tape. It's pretty much Chipmonk's show ,as ,unbeknownst to either Joel or I ,Chipmonk had placed the microphone we were recording the show with ,right in front of his amp. It's just like him to pull some shit like that ,and after only a few more shows together (posted here soon!) the band was over. Joel said this about the tape : "Of sub-bootleg quality,actually it barely qualifies as a bootleg". The vocals ,my guitar ,and the drums ,are virtually washed out by Chipmonk's wall of jealous noise.There are some fine moments here ,including an improv instro (Magic Bowel Movement -Symphony In E Minus) , a bunch of cover songs,a lengthy and funny version of "Teach Wants Quiet" ,and a spoken word ending ,"The Ant-ectdote" ,a story of ants that is a parable of our times (the 90's). The audience was small but receptive. If you love the Chipmonk ,this is the tape for you ,wah-wah pedal,feedback ,and all. Not the most even recording ,and probably one of the worst sounding live recordings ,we ever did. Thanks ,Chipmonk!

The title and picture reflect the goings-on at this time period in OFS's existence. There are 5 songs to start off ,all of a pop-song length ,including,"Grimy Reefer" ,an extension of The Candy Butchers song "Crummy Turkey"(on the next album we did,"La Comparsa" ,in the same style). That is followed up by a lengthy (over 14 minutes!) covers medley , which was too long to list on the mp3 file ,so here is that list:

The whole thing ends with an over 13 minute spazz-fest ,"Better On The Arteries" , and you should hear this whole thing! It's a gas! Recorded November 2nd,1991 ,20 years ago today!

A mediocre ska band from North Carolina ,with a slew of covers and compilation tracks,collected on this disc ,for your convenience. Bob Marley and Squeeze are both covered a few times,Poison ,Scram ,and Justin Hinds are also covered ,as well as a track from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Along with a few originals and live cuts ,this may be their finest work.

THE THRUSTERS - Another Roadside Attraction

Based in Orlando ,this disc was recorded in Tampa in 2002.Covers of ,"Route 66" ,"Little Bit Of Soul" and "These Boots Were Made For Walking" as well as swell original compositions ,and a female vocalist at the helm. The real brains behind this band though ,is guitarist James Humann( http://www.myspace.com/theethrusters ) ,but it appears the group is now dissolved. Just good ol' rock 'n' roll/rockabilly/punk.

FULLBARN -Sloppin' The Hogs- Live!

This is the famous redneck punk band,Fullbarn.From a live gig,somewhere's around 1988,in a barn full of drunken hicks and chicks.The recording sounds kinda strange.I was told when the gig was over ,someone accidentally tipped over a jug of moonshine,which spilled on the tape!The recording machine began smoking,and was later found to be a total loss.But the tape was retrieved in all it's drunken glory.Don Hickles is on guitar and vocals,Marty Moonshine(Of The Eternal Mind) on drums,and extra vocals by Pizza Vomit.All in all a great show of drunken lunacy in which the following bands are covered: Pink Floyd,The Stooges,The Misfits,The Moshhawks,The Ramones,Vanilla Fudge,The Jackie Earle Haleys,Flipper,Def Leppard,Black Sabbath,Rik L Rik,Danzig,Led Zeppelin,and Bachman Turner Overdrive,as well as some of their own demented,drunken instrumentals.Thanks go out to the Big Still,a "good ol' boy" tavern,overlooking the Caloosahatchee River,long since demolished,R.I.P.
