Finn Class - Day 2 - Altered Journal Covers (PM)

This is what was in the kit for the last workshop of the weekend.

First step after getting the covers off was to add white crackle paste to both outside covers.

Next I used Dublin flakes to add metallic elements to the covers and the main feature, the steampunk moth.

Laid out the composition, stuck everything down with heavy body gel and dried thoroughly.  Coated with black gesso and wiped back.

And this is what I ended up with.  Metallic flakes still visible. We then used white gesso to dry brush both covers to allow the colours to come through.

I chose to decorate in shades of green, I used emerald and lime from Finns acrylic range.

The back cover has tape on for a bit of added texture.

This is the best photo I could get whilst still in the class!

We managed to finish around 5.30pm, so we went back to the pub, had something to eat and then I drove home. We dropped Jules off, then I dropped Janet off and I walked in the door at 12.30am.  Bailey was soooo pleased to see me and so was Martin x

Sketchbook Journal Dream

I played around with some metal, wooden and resin embellishments on the front of the journal cover.

Then I slightly changed the layout and decorated the front cover.

And did the same to the back cover.

This is for sale in my online shop.

Square Journal Skull Covers

I covered the front of the journal with a skull napkin.  I took some resin and metal embellishments and arranged them on the cover.

I then painted each element with acrylic paint.

A close up of the upper par of the journal cover.

I painted the back cover of the journal with silver metallic paint.

This is for sale in my online shop.

Skull Sketchbook

I decided to use mostly wooden shapes on the front of this sketchbook cover.

I used purple and pink metallics on the front cover.

Painted all the pieces black and then stuck them onto the cover.

I used metallic paints to paint the black wooden and resin shapes.

This is the back which I have kept flat so it's easy to use.

This is the front and back when it's opened out.

And this is the inside. The paper is a bit rougher and it's cream, it's called a sketchbook and measures approx 8.2" x 5.5".

Skull Journal Covers

I sponged shades of green metallic paint onto the cover of this journal.

I played around with some pieces until I was happy with the layout. I painted them in black powertex and stuck them together with it.

Then I used waxes and metallic acrylics to paint the black shapes.

Close up of the head, crown and wings.

And this skull is from a mould that I made myself.

And this is on the back. It's a napkin of skull faces.

And this is it opened so you can see that I left he back unbellished so that it would sit flat.

There is really nice, good quality, bright white paper inside.

Size approx 8.25" square.

Decorated Journal Covers

This is the second of the A5 journal books that I picked up from Hobby Craft. I added a napkin to the back cover using matte medium.

I used different colours of metallics to blend the napkin into the background and I've covered it in a couple of layers of soft varnish to protect it.

And here it is dried and in the sunlight. I didn't put anything else on the back so that it sits flat on the table.

I sponged on metallic paints to the front cover and then complied a layout that I was happy with, glued it on and painted it with black gesso.

I coloured the embellishments with metallic paints and waxes.
