A Wooden Box

At the weekend my mum, sister and nephew went to a country fair, my sister bought my mum some little pots of jam which came in this wooden box.

No your eyes are not deceiving you, I have painted it pink, well DecoArt innocence from the chalky range to be exact. When I put an order in, one of the colours was out of stock so they sent this one instead, yikes!! So I'm using it as a base coat!

There, normal service is resumed, next was a coat from the same range of paint but this colour is rustic.

I then moved outside as it was quite nice as the sun had come round to the patio area. One coat all over with weathered wood crackle glaze. Followed by a coat of serene from the same range.

Close up of the crackle which came out really well been as the wood on the box is quite rough.

I also crackled the top edges.

I added some stenciling using Andy Skinner Stencils and the relic chalky paint.

I dry brushed some of the relic onto the sides of the box too and topped it off with a tickle of black shimmer metallic lustre.

On the other small end I used black modeling paste through an Americana Decor script stencil.

And finally I gave the box a coat of clear creme wax and buffed it up. It gave a really smooth finish.

All products used are from the DecoArt range.

Atc Swap

And I'm also hosting an atc swap along the same theme, script, text, writing, words etc.

The base of the chipboard is painted in a couple of coats of DecoArt enchanted chalky paint and stamped in a script with black stazon. A napkin with an image of Mona Lisa has been adhered to the atc using media ultra medium varnish. The words collection time are from a TH rub on and a couple of coats of soft touch varnish were applied to finish.

The background is painted in DecoArt black gesso, stamped in versamark and wow vanilla embossing powder heated embossed over the top. A coat of media satin varnish was applied to the whole atc. The wooden heart was coated with white gesso, followed by a coat of lace chalk paint, a thin layer of weathered wood crackle and finally a layer of rouge chalky paint. Topped off with a couple of metal embellishments.

All the products are from DecoArt.

Tag Swap

The theme of a tag swap I've organised is to incorporate script / text /words etc. I used two large mdf tags for mine.

Black gesso on the bottom with white modeling paste mixed with serene chalky paint through a stencil and hi-lighted with turquoise metallic lustre. The top half is lace on the bottom, a thin layer of weathered wood crackle and serene over the top. Script and Finn images stamped in black stazon. Final layer is a wash of transparent yellow iron oxide media paint.

Whisper chalky paint for the base, covered in a layer of patina antiquing cream and wiped back. A layer of ultra matte varnish to seal the antiquing cream. Random script stamp added in black stazon. A dirty wash added and finally black gesso stippled through a word stencil and a couple of coats of soft touch varnish.

All products are from the DecoArt range.

Embrace Possibilities

I wanted to try out a couple of things and ended up with this plaque. I gave it a couple of coats of black carbon DecoArt chalky paint, then a coat of weathered wood crackle followed by a layer of everlasting chalky paint. I added titanium white media paint to a splodge of white modeling paste. This is one of the things I waned to try out and scraped it through a script stencil across the bottom third.

Stamped the main Finn image in a mix of archival and versa fine ink directly onto the wood, which came out really well. I stamped the circles onto white paper and cut them out along with the heart and stuck them on.

I added a couple of pieces of tissue tape and hi lighted some of the modeling paste in black shimmer metallic lustre from DecoArt.

I'm entering my plaque into this weeks PaperArtsy challenge as they have a theme of grunge paste but the modeling paste is pretty much the same sort of thing and you don't have to use PA products to enter.

Black & White Tags

For some reason my black soot distress ink has gone a blue/grey over the white chalky paint. Anyhow, not to worry it's a shade of black. I used tissue tape, stamped with Finn stamps and the main image is a silhouetted woman from the Dina set with a few more scribbles. Did a bit of flicking with the black and white DecoArt mister sprays.

Painted the tag white, then a layer of weathered wood crackle and a layer of black chalky paint. White modeling paste through a stencil and then a piece of corrugated painted white and a hint of black on the rises and edges. I added some washi tape that Chris had kindly sent me. Stamped the butterfly on black card and heat embossed in white wow powder.

All mediums and paints are from the DecoArt range.

Have a Heart

I wanted to play with my new colours of chalky finish DecoArt paint. After a coat of gesso I painted the mdf wooden heart shape with a couple of layers of lace. Then patiently waited whilst a coat of weathered wood dried and applied a coat of romance on the top to create this fantastic crackle.

Once dried I used my finger to edge with carbon black chalky paint.

Close up of the fab crackle.

I also got some new to me stencils. I didn't realise how huge they were!!

I used black media DecoArt modelling paste through the French Script one. (Love this stuff, but you probably already know that!!)

I went back in with black to define the edges more and then when dry added a couple of coats of DecoArt media satin varnish.

And finally I added some hemp and some beads.

And the sun came out.
