Mini Journalling Workshop with Kate Crane

Today I went to the mini journalling workshop at Art from the Heart taken by the lovely Kate Crane.

Other end of the table.

Gesso'd and when dry Dina paint mixed with a bit of white. Finger painting. We were creating the background. We added more colours until the background was covered.

Stencilled and marks made and Kate very kindly lent me her white gel pen to hi-light areas. We had some mini collage sheets which you can just see bottom right, which I started to cut out.

After lunch we started on the black card which had been covered with white gesso, but we left some parts of it black.

This time we used Dylusion paints, but again finger painted it on to create the background in pretty much the same way as the first one.

This one is pinched from Kate, just to prove I was there!!

These are my backgrounds after stencilling and stamping. They still need some doodling on them. Everyone was using the new Carabelle stamps but they were sort of flower and leaf orientated, so I chose not to use them, instead I wanted to use T!m paperdolls and was going to do them at home. But Kate very kindly found me some, I think you can just see some heads at the bottom of the photo!

When I got home, I cut out some more collage pieces and I think I am going to go with something like the above. Nothing is glued down yet, so things may change!!

And these are the paperdolls. I swapped some of them as some of the ones I chose were a bit big. Again they are not glued down, because I still need to doodle on the backgrounds.

I will be back with my mini bag and journal when they are completed. Thanks again Kate for a lovely day.

Media Board with Dina Wakley

Earlier in the week I saw a workshop pop up on Facebook, so I decided to treat myself.

I took a workshop today at Art from the Heart with Dina Wakley. It was so much fun, she really is wacky but so lovely with it.

As most of you who know me will know, I really don't get journaling which is why I chose this workshop over the others, as we were using media board as the substrate.

And all back to the front for a demo on how to use the scribble crayons.

Stamped images coloured with acrylic paint and scribble crayons.

These are the two lovely ladies I kept company with all day, on the left Lynda from Watford and on the right, Sue from Wigan.

Then another demo on how to construct the book using washing tape. I fell in love with the scribble tape but unfortunately they'd sold out in the shop.

So this is my completed book.

The inside housing the tags.

The two tags in the middle creating the main image.

And the book opened up with the left and right tags folded back.

And finally the back cover. This was this mornings project.

The first of the afternoons projects was a box, with or without a lid, again constructed from the media board. We also had to make our own washi tape for this one.

After a few more steps that I didn't get any photos of we ended up with a box.

I decided to go with the bottom and a lid for mine, so this is the top.

And just to prove that is does actually stand up!

And this was the third project, but we started it first after lunch and then had to wait for the paint scribble to dry before we could add the black.

And I was very good, this is all I bought. I would have got more but apparently most of the order that arrived on Friday was missing!!

And another sort of surprise when I arrived back home, however it turned to disappointment when I opened them to find only nine of the twelve colours that I ordered way back in January, even though there was in invoice in the envelope for all of them!!!!

Kate Crane Journal Class

Well this time Lin and Chris made it, but not without issues and being an hour and a half late, they were caught up in the Leeds marathon!!! Kate is just catching Lin up where we were at.

Lunch time, just look at the size of that bun. Chris is carrying on, playing catch up.

Chris's pinky blue page, although she does paint over it with dark purple later on - lol.

And Lin deciding where to position her cup cakes - don't ask!!

The trio at lunchtime break

The four of us just after we'd packed up to set off for the pub and home

My morning page, although this is nothing how it was meant to be!!! But hey, what's new - lol. Used Dylusion and Dina Wakley paints, they work brilliantly together.

And the afternoon page, which consisted of finger painting, again with the Dylusions and Dina paints. Need to find an image of sorts to finish this one off.

Thanks to all for a lovely day.

Secret Mission

Today I was on a secret mission to attend a journaling class, yes, I did say a journaling class, with the lovely Kate Crane at AftH. The reason for going was because Em and Lin and Chris were all going. Em made it as you can see here, but unfortnatley, Chris and Lin ended up waiting for a recovery vehicle on the service station about an hour away.

So the theme of page one was black and white and shades of whilst trying not to make it too muddy. We preped the pages added the white panel in the middle and outlined it in a black. Did some stamping in the paints and added some music paper to create a frame.

I chose to use the main image from The Presenters plate by Brett Weldele. We had to colour it using shading using pencils and the like. I've never been any good at colouring and shading, so I did mine with black soot and iced spruce distress ink markers and a water colour brush.

Quick blast with the heat gun before we moved on!!

I didn't take any steps in-between as I was covered in black, white and shades of grey paint - lol.

View from above. The afternoon page was to use a splash of colour. I chose purple and used the Dylusions paint in the tubs, it's lush. Thick, creamy, vibrant and very quick drying.

I wanted to use another image from Brett Weldele but unfortunately there was only the one I'd already used available in the workshop, so I left it empty and am going to finish it off another day when I find the right image.

Emma colouring in her image for the second page, just look at all those coloured pencils!!

Everyone chilling colouring their images and adding colour to their pages.

Emma's pages. She put them to one side for them to dry whilst finishing her colouring. She used the Dylusions teal paint for her splash of colour.

And whilst in the process, she managed to dunk her elbow in the black paint - mucky pup!!!

Had a fab day and really sorry that Chris and Lin had car troubles and couldn't join us - next time, fingers crossed xxx
