Tzeentch Lord on a Converted Disc WIP

Been awhile since I made any progress on this, but it is coming along. I have posted WIPs of the Disc previously here and on several forums and some of the comments have mostly been positive, but a couple got me to thinking. Still have a bit to go yet. Need to blend in the right foot. Touch up things around the horns.

Come up with an arm.

The shoulder socket has been magnetized. For Arm swaps.

Added a tail to make the model a bit more menancing.

One of the comments was that the disc looks too much like a 40k Tyranid (not a bad thing in my opinion) and another was what about a tail. Then as I was working on the knights I saw the musician’s horn.

So, that led to a slight change in modeling to where I came up with this. And you guessed it, some of the horns that I cut off the knights/chaos warriors heads make an appearance (don’t throw anything away).

I'm also working on some more marauders and I am just about ready to enter the painting phase. This is just one of the first of the additional marauders. I've had this head laying around caught off from a Reaper Miniature for a number of years. Thought it was time to put it to use.

Tzeentch Knight unit modelled.

Well, made some progress on the Tzeentch unit of knights. I still have one cape to do and have to finish all of the basing and movement tray, but they are essentially done with the exception of few little touch-ups. Hopefully the next time you see them they will be in color.

Below is the bannerman and the musician.

The next shot is of the entire unit. The Max-mini heads really set these apart and make them look good. I have a chaos warrior unit and a chosen unit, those will have plenty of the warrior heads on them, so these knights had to be different.

This is not the movement tray that I will use for these, this is one of the spares that was from a junked project.

The next two photos show the flanks. I like this flank, turning the outside figure ever so slightly to look off in this direction.

The one thing that I tried to do with this unit is have it look like the center models are charging out a little bit. The banner man and the unit champ are mounted a bit forward. The one benefit of doing this is that it does help with the ranking up of some crazy poses. This won't work as well for you if you do not make a movement trays a bit wider.

And another few of the knights from the front.

Next up Khorne!...The Khorne Knight Unit is almost finished. Also got a unit of Chaos Warriors and some more additions to the marauders, along with a spawn or two. And pics of my painted Crusaders are coming also.

It's a Khorney Knight and one of Tzeentch

I do very much favor Khorne above all of the powers of ruin. The sheer evilness of it for some reason really appeals to me from a visual standpoint. On this mini, I decided to play up on that Khorne theme, adding grizzly trophies and skulls.

The sword is from a bloodletter, the Khorne icons are Forgeworld brass etch.

There was kind of an ugly armor panel on this hors and I wanted good smooth panels for some freehand painting, so I filled that with GS and smooth out the panel. More skulls, more symbols.

The head is one of my favorite heads from the chaos warriors foot troops. I love the design of the horns on it.

Onto the next Tzeentch Knight....

Again used the MaxMini head. This going to be the unit champ and mouting him far forward on the base. When you make your movement trays extra large like I do, you can get away with this. I'll put some eye-candy on the back of the base.

Note I added some Tzeentch symbols. These were done in two steps. And I wanted to show the back of the miniature. This one will get a cape added to it, but one thing that needs be done prior to the cape is to build a support, so that is what you see between the shoulder pads.

Back to Chaos Knights...Tzeentch

Now that the craziness of Adepticon is behind me, its back to my Chaos Warriors and attempting to get about 2500 points total done by summer. I'm already around 1200 pts so its very doable, especially since I have large number of marauders that just need a little finish painting.

That said I need some things that hit harder and are good on the flanks. So that means some knights. I've already started a few Khorne Knights, but I also wanted to do some Tzeentch knights. Here is the first of a unit of 6.

I gave him a Max Mini head to give a different type of look to him, added some Tzeentch icons to the shoulder pads, and a cape that I sculpted out of Brownstuff.

The cape still needs a bit of work, but I do want to keep it somewhat bare to do a bit of paint work on it. My army is all blue and burnt orange and will be no matter what the models are marked. No GW Circus Candy for me.

The next model is the banner man. This one will be sharing a 50mm base with the musician.

I borrowed the Tzeentch icon from the chaos space marines. Not real flashy until you look at the back.

Not sure this will work yet. I may not like it after I start laying down paint. If I don't like how its turning out I'll take it off and just freehand paint the patterns in.

Next up some VC Bashin' Black Orcs, more Tzeentch Knights, and probably some Khorne Knights.

Kit bashing and building a Tzeentch Disc ...Step 1

Getting a break from greenskins in to work on my WoC is refreshing. This is the start of my disc for a Tzeentch hero. Haven't decided yet if he is an exalted or sorcerer. By the time I'm done I might just magentize the arm carry a staff or a weapon. I seriously didn't like the existing disc, so I had to come up with something that is a bit meaner looking, this will suit. Building up the disc a bit with apoxie sculp and then overlaying that with GS.
