A Slaanesh Avatars of War Lord of Chaos

This is one sick miniature, in a good sort of way.  It really has some great character.
I'm not going to lie, its a bit of a pain in the ass to paint, with super fine detail.
The cape just screamed to be painted in skintones.  Little bit gross when you think about it.
I decided to keep the snake-ish body in skintones as well.  The scales I went with some greens., maybe should have done that in a different color.
The icon is a weird riot to paint.
So there you have it, one of my crazier chaos painted models.

Barbarian Marauder - Avatars of War painted

I'm not sure why years ago that I bought this miniature.  Its certainly not one of my favorites.  I think it was originally sculpted by Gary Morley, not one of my favorite sculptors.
There are certain views of it though that are very cool looking, like this head on view above.
The shield is pretty cool, but the cape below like the Lord of Wrath model sucks.
The other thing I really don't get with the model is the decapitated head that he is standing on when the model is armed with a flail.  Oh well, fantasy.

Avatars of War - Lord of Wrath!

Avatars of War does have some very cool looking miniatures, and this one is one of them.  I did convert it with a different head, as I actually have two of these miniatures, the other one is in work and in a blue paint scheme.
The fur cap is the only real let down to me.  I think if I was building a gamer convention army, I would likely dremel a bunch of that fur off and resculpt it myself.
Some of the ornamentation on the armor is a little funky and hard to paint.
I love the detail on the chest, the weapons, the greaves.
As always more to follow.

She comes from the North and is part Barbarian....newly painted Avatars of War Figure

I originally bought this figure to be a part of my Mutant Marauders Warhammer force a long time ago.
Its an Avatars of War miniature.  The sculpt originally looked very cool minus the paint.  But as you paint it you find the incredible flaws in it, from the weird right elbow to the spindly leg that disappears in a weird way
The fur looks like something I'm able to sculpt which doesn't say much.
Then there is the weird hide or fur or whatever the hell that texture is on the inside by the left axe.  I painted it like a torn tanned hide color.  Not a great sculpt, I do not recommend the sculpt to anyone.  Despite that I think I painted it alright.  Much more to follow....

Avatar's of War Painted - The Bleep! You Dwarf Berserker

This is like the second time I have painted an Avatar's of War Dwarf.  He is a spunky little guy flipping the bird.
Fun miniature to paint.  I don't think photo taking is very good on him, but its about the best my ancient digital camera can do until I get a newer one.
Another angle of him flippin' the bird.  This guy will be going up for sale likely next month on eBay.
That's it for now.....more to follow as always.

Marauder Champion - Avatars of WAR!

When I first saw this miniature I was like, I have to have that.  But the casting is quite rough and makes for a tough miniature to paint.
It's a fun looking and mean miniature.
Not overly happy with it, but its another miniature in the collection.

Some more additions to the Mutant Marauders

No racing tonight, got rained out on Wednesday night, race again on Sunday. So tonight we have beastman/bestigor with a weapon swap.  Another model that will be part of the mutant marauders.
Here you see the chaos warrior weapon swap.  Just something very simple.
And below are a couple of the Avatars of War dwarves that I also plan to use in the Marauder unit.
Again some simple weapon swaps and chaos shields along with a few chaos chains.  Straight forward stuff.

More Avatars of War

As I build and paint my Warriors of Chaos army I keep coming up with models that I want to add to the army, funny part is most of these additions will be relegated to normal rank and file models.  I recently picked up these two models.  The one on the left will certainly fit the bill for my band of mutants, and I will use it as a Sorcerer.  The one on the right will go in my ever expanding Marauder unit with great weapons.

The AoW models are very nice sculpts and the castings are pretty good, but as you see I did find minor gaps that needed filling.  So out with the greenstuff while I was doing the mail on that Viking in the previous post and also doing some GS work on the beastman for the Lost In the Warp crossover project.  Never fear James and I have some working plans to show those crossover models as we are developing them.
And then today I saw that Reaper released another Tre Manor barbarian sculpt that I will have to get to add to my band of barbarians and mutants and mutant barbarians.  The fun never ends......

Some new Warriors of Chaos Additions....

Been awhile since I updated my Warriors of Chaos army.  I needed a break from building Vikings, so I thought I would assemble some new warriors.  At Adepticon Alex Akers gave me some of the new Battle Road Games' heads sculpted by Navvarro over at the Mr. Bug Man blog.  So on the left I used one of those heads on the GW Warrior Champion model.  I'm planning to add just a scraggly bit of hair to the head, but it does have this cool mutated look to it that I'm after.

Then I picked up another Avatars of War lord, been so long that I worked on this army that I forgot I had one already, so to make it look different I added a MaxMini Black Lotus head, that matches my one unit of Chaos Knights.  And then again at Adepticon I picked up an Enigma Morphus model.  After looking at the Enigma model I decided it needed a head swap, dug through a bits box and found a spare head.  Then I decided it needed a skull on one of the post-like back banner things, so I used a Secret Weapons skull bit for that.  I find it funny looking at the size of all three of these models, I think everyone is beginning to exceed what can be done on 25mm bases.

I have a bunch of warriors and marauders prime coated and ready for paint.  Plan to paint some of them soon inbetween painting countless Vikings.  Speaking of which I'm building the banner men currently along with another unit.  As I was looking for standards I remembered some nice ones in the Fire Forge kit, which got me into building some of their knights.  So I have a little bit of GS work to do on the standards and to finish off the skirmishers and a few other Vikings, so while I do that I will build the Khorne beastman for the Crossover project with the Lost In the Warp blog, in which I believe James managed to convince the Butcher's Bill in joining up in the creation process of a Nurgle Beastman.

So lots going on, its not just all racing this summer, although I am doing a lot of that, next up me driving a Vintage Go-Kart that is as old as I am.  And yes people were shorter back then, and I'm not all that tall.  The Vintage Bug kart has a rather cramping affect on a person.....

Avatars of War - Dwarf Berserker Finished

Now I'm normally not a dwarf lover.  I generally dislike all elves and dwarves, but the Avatars of War dwarves I do like.  They are very nice looking miniatures, and heavily muscled.
I started painting this miniature a couple of years ago.  I experimented greatly with the fleshtones, actually using a purple paint wash for everything in the shadows.
The purple definitely added a nice cool tone in the shadows of the miniature.
In hindsight, I should have used a different color for the cloth, too close to the goblin.
I think the red hair worked out pretty good.  The bronze metallics got a good weathering, that is about 5 shades of different colors highlighted with a gold.
The eyes are painted, but they are so deeply set in the head.
I like how the goblin head came out.  Love the green.  There you have it.  Entered it in the Adepticon Paint contest, but I knew that if everyone showed up it would not even come close to placing.

Small Chaos Marauders...WIP

A rowdy group of chaos dwarves and midgetgors.
They ought to fit nicely with the rest of the mutant marauders.

A new Chaos Dwarf Bannerman for the Mutant Marauders

Definitely needed another banner man for my mutant marauders so I have this little guy in WIP more, need to clean him up a little.  Another of the Avatars of War, Dwarf Berserker conversions.  Little and a few gaps, But he'll work.
Thought on this one that I would try the chaos helm as the AoW heads are smaller than the Chaos helms.   The banner will be Slaanesh all the way.
Gave him some hair and got him up in the air so that his big sword clears my movement trays.  I'll come back with rock and ballast later to fill that ugly ledge in.
I'm still under the weather and my cold came roaring back.  Working and deadlines and stressing over work this time of year is never a good thing.  Too many pressures.  Hopefully things a slow down soon so I can rest and get better.  Also checkout Avatars of War's Warriors of Apoc.  I'll definitely be picking up a unit or two of those for my chaos army which continues to expand in model count.

Evil Midget Marauder with a Mohawk

Avatars of War's dwarves continue to infatuate me.  They have some really good looking stuff.  This piece happens to the be the standard top.  A very wide pose for rank and file, my plan is to use the miniature on the flank.
Often when I build my fantasy armies I spend extra time with the miniatures on the front rank and also like to make those out on the flanks look just as aggressive.
Still have a bit of gap filling to do on the back, but you get the idea.
