If you have followed the blog for a while now, you will know that I like these Werner Klonke sculpts, even though they have some huge head-dresses. This is the last one that I have. I painted while painting the Inquisitor from the previous post.
As you can see, the knight shares much the same color scheme as the Inquisitor.
It is a fun easy miniature to paint. It definitely has some cool dynamics to it.
I was not really sure, how I wanted to paint the unicorn head at first. Then I decided on the gray-brown tones.
Fun miniature....as always much more to follow.

Old Stuff Wednesday: Bretonian in a Duel
Another old one, this was a pair of OOP Warhammer Fantasy models. The Bretonian knight is/was one of GW's cooler looking models.
The skeleton is actually one of their OOP plastic skeletons that I converted special for the duel. Base was absolutely horrible.....

Second batch of Crusader foot knights
This is the second batch, still needs the static grass and floc added, but basically done. I have some spearmen already painted in the same scheme.
These are all Conquest Games plastics. Next up some more Vikings.

My Crusades army gets some additions
I had a fairly small unit of foot for my crusades army, so I wanted to add some more models to that unit. Most of the models, all of the ones with swords are Conquest Games plastics Normans. I still need to add the static grass and floc that you see on the Spearman, but they are basically done.
The spearman is a converted Perry model. The model next to him with the axe is a model that I cannot remember, the axe is from the Gripping Beast plastic Viking range.
The Conquest Plastics are not the best quality plastic kit out there, the details are a bit shallow, but they are workable with a bit of effort. Good comparisons of the metal models to the plastics shown below.
Even more to come.

A new Crusader
I have a fairly good sized batch of minis to add to my Crusader army, this is the first mini from that batch that is mostly made up of the plastic Conquest Games foot knights.
Paint scheme fits with the crusaders, just need to add all of the grass tufts to the bases and this piece will be ready to be added to the unit.
More to follow.

Modeling Bretonnians: Part 6 - More of the Foot Knights
I finished up some more of the foot knights. This one armed with a falchion.
This one with a Morningstar.
And this one with a bird???
Nearing end of the Bretonnians.

Modeling Bretonnians Part 5: The Foot Knights
Originally when I had first started this project, I had planned to use knights on foot in place of the Grail Pilgrims, a sort of "counts as" for the army since I really did not like the pilgrims. I will probably still do that, but it will be much better looking knight models from the Fireforge ranges.
The knight above is the simplest conversion using the peasant champion's body and mace, with a mounted knight's shield.
Below is another of the character bodies from the peasant box set. Another simple conversion, this one uses a warhammer from the Empire wolf looking knights.
When you do this type of conversion you may need to modify and add the head dress draping.
Below is another of the knights that would have been used in the more rear ranks. The helm on this one is one of the hanging bits with the chain simply removed.
A little bit of mail sculpted around the neck. Another thing that you may need to do when doing these conversions is to add some GS putty under the helm around the neck areas if you have some gaps.
Below a view from behind of the mail. The shield is a an extra from Fireforge.
And below, another of the easier conversions using the champion body. This helm has the decoration removed from it and the shield is cut down peasant shield.
That's it for now from the aborted project. And again these will be going up for auction. I'll post links to those auctions in near future.

Modeling Bretonnian Knights Part 4
One of the things that I did a long time back with the Bretonnian models was also to convert the horses that the knights rode. One head in particular is fairly simple to convert. I think this gives a really interesting look to their mounts.
Next up is another of the knights. Straight up easy conversion on this one.
Simply just added a boar with a knife in it to match the helm decoration to the horse.
As stated previously, all of Bretonnian stuff will eventually end up being auctioned off on Ebay, as this is an aborted project. Fireforge stuff will be done in place of this for my future knight projects.

Modeling Bretonnian Knights: Part 3
Back with more knights. The above and below shot shows another of the knights that I converted to have a couched lance.
The next one shows a bit harder conversion, removing those ugly embossed shields from the horse's caparison.
Like a previous knight I again went back and removed the lance and added a big sword. The sword is from a Reaper Miniatures weapons pack.
This knight I gave a cape. I once again used a cape from Fire Forge's Teutonic knights kit again.
Below are some shots of one of the horses. I first shaved off the embossed shields with a sharp Xacto, while the horse body was in halves.
I then went back in with Brown Stuff and Green Stuff to smooth out any areas that had scarred up from the removal and in some cases I added some additional folds.

Bretonnian Knights: Modeling Part 2
One thing I always like to do are minor subtle conversions when building armies. This is what gives you flavor and variety that others are missing. This knight is one of those. I simply cut off the lance and put his sword in his hand. After all once that initial charge is over the lance is broken and done anyways. The plan was to put broken lances on the bases and movement trays like they were just dropped. The sword is from a Reaper Miniatures sword pack blister.
Also note the helm has the boar on it. That boar use to have a sword in it. But I wanted variety so simply removing that sword created just that.I was also playing with the positions of the horse heads to give a bit more variety. It looks easier than it is to get that right and smoothed out and then to fix the reigns. And is very subtle.
Another thing that GW did not do for the Bret knights was couch the lance. I can understand why as far as ranking them goes, but really they should have that arm on the sprue.
I decided to make that. Its an easy conversion using the Empire knights couched lance arm converting it with Bret parts.
Below is another variation on the couched lance. Also the helm on this one is something they should have also given as an option. This is one of those that has the little tie and chain to it for hanging on the miniature, simply clipped off.
As you can see I also removed a lot of the icons from the horse and smoothed that out.
The cape again is something that GW should have as an option. This cape is a left over from my FireForge miniatures.
That's it for now, I'm off to the race track....
