Old Stuff Wednesday - December: Converted Centigors

Or should I say converted centaur centigors.  I've never really liked the GW centigors, so circa 2004, I decided to make some actual centaurs for my beastmen army.
These used the plastic gor torso and the GW plastic medieval horse.  That old horse body I believe is still available with the GW Pistoliers.  You do have to remove the saddle by simply shaving and sanding it smooth.
I previously made the armored centaurs that I called the Knightgors of Khorne, and so this was a much easier conversion than those.  I later made a third version of the centaurs using gors and wood elf horses, probably the best of the centaurs.
Paintwork was done in a very similar style as my gors, bestigors, and the afforementioned Knightgors.
I also carried the fur coming off the back of the gor onto the horse body.  These were a lot of fun to build, and below you can see some of the pre-paint shots of the builds.
I used the tabards to cover the front of the join between horse and torso.
Here you can see the sides of the horses and the areas where the saddles use to be.
 And below the backs.

So there you have it my Centaurs.

Old Stuff Wednesday - June...Painted Khorne Knightgors

Well last month I showed you an old Khorne Knightgor. That was my first and my test model for the Khorne Knights that used with Khorne Beastmen army back then. That got me to thinking that I should show the rest of the unit. So below you will see the rest of the models I came up with.

What would a unit champion be without a huge sword. Back then I was basically using space marine arms with these models. All of the armor you see on the torsos and heads were sculpted by me.

The belt buckles, I remember it taking forever to sculpt one good one, which I would later just press mold.

Another shot of one of my favorite models on the end.

Dead bodies, skulls, heads, blood, and skin is the theme of Khorne, I had lots of fun doing these.

The banner was to be obnoxiously huge and in your face. The skull was painted on in freehand.

At first I was not going to put the eyeball in it, but the more I thought about the more it just made sense to do it.

Ah more spikes and dead body spike to the centaur. Note where the saddles use to be on the old armored horses. I filled that space in to continue a smooth looking armor.

I do love this unit. And I do want to match it some day soon with my new warriors khorne knights.

Until next time.

Old Stuff Wednesday - May....The Knight-gor (Painted)

Back around 2003 when all of Chaos was together in one book my predominantly beastmen chaos army was looking for a boost from some heavy cavalry in the name of Chaos Knights. This was the test piece for just that. I wanted it to fit my beastmen theme, so I needed a knight that was more beastmen like. Why not an heavy armored centaur.

It merged the Chaos Knight/Empire Knight horse with a beastmen gor torso, chaos warrior weapon and shield.

And whole lot of other bits. The chest armor was all sculpted. The rivets along the bottom of the armor were added.

And I was going to mark the unit this would be apart as Khorne as you see on the shoulder.

And what would Khorne be without a grizzly trophy.

To this day...this remains as one of my all time favorite miniatures.

Chaos Knight Centaurs...WIP Update #2

Making some progress on getting some torsos for the new chaos knight horses. I have three of these done and then started working on this one.

I'm purposely keeping the detail down on these as I want a bunch of blanks that I can cast then further detail. The saddle areas will get added armor plates. The design of the torso similar to the space marines.

I will be able to fit the normal chaos knight heads in a socket and then pin the arms, add the shoulder pads and some other details.

The molds will be one piece castings, they'll insert into the horse body. Already test the mold and casting process using Smooth-On products, more on that later as I'm preparing my orc army for the coming war against humanity...And it will be glorious....

More Knights and a Centaur WIP

Well, to sort of continue that khorne knight theme, next up is the banner man WIP.

I've chosen to use a lance and combine that with the bloodletter banner. The backside of the banner shows the transition piece.

Something I forgot to mention in the previous post and in my response in the comments was that I also build a support for the cape to help get the flowing aspect. In the next pic you can see what I typically do for a support, just a basic wedge of putty applied to the model and then I stretch it a bit.

Now for the centaur. I had an older model that I did more my marauders, a couple of years ago, but I got rid of it because ite was based on the old chaos knight horse and really would not fit with the new knights.
This a project I've been thinking about for quite a while and needed to take a bit of action on. Here I'm just building the basic torso for the big chaos knight horse. I plan to just make the basic shape and then cast the blanks to add details. The torso itself will be sort of like a spacemarine. I probably be 3 or 4 of these and use the best ones for the casts, and also do that because the horses are bit different too.

And when I say space marine like, what I mean by that is that I will have a socket for a head and then flat areas to pin the arms to at the shoulders. The bottom of the torso will have a piece that goes down into the horse. And the shoulder guards will be added afterwards.

So there is the start to another model for my mutant marauder horde.

Marauding Centaurs...Hobey Baker

I made a bunch of these guys a couple of years ago, very fun, very dynamic models. I recently just built this one for someone and remembered what fun they were to build. Not overly complicated, but good looking and fun.

And the Wisconsin - BC match-up didn't go too well for the National Title....oh well. Although, it was extremely cool to see Blake Geoffrion named the winner of the Hobey Baker Award for best college hockey player of the year. The first in Badger history, which is quite remarkable considering the number of great players that have come out of the Badger program. It was a fun 4 years of watching him. Considering his heritage, I shouldn't have been surprised, I look forward to watching him in the pros.
