Khorne Lord - Sangre para el Dios de la Sangre - Bloody Painted

I seriously do like the Khorne characters in a fantasy type setting.  They are truly brutal figures and cool looking.
I have had this model for a very long time.  Certainly wanted to paint, even though I no longer have a use for the model.
I think it turned out alright.
Tons of skulls all over him.

That axe is just brutal looking.  Love the look of it.
Much more to come.

Old Stuff Wednesday: Adepticon Team Army

Circa 2006 - A team-up army with my buddy Mike Butcher.  This was from Adepticon, our first team up playing in their Warhammer Fantasy Team tournament.
It featured my Beastmen and his evil Dryad trees.
I don't remember what we called the army, I think I wrote the fluff.  Mike built the longest display base on the planet.  I think it was part surf board.

His trees were quite evil looking.

Not sure what happened to his tree army, probably sold to someone, but the conversions standard amazing.

The centerpiece of the display was the Khorne monolith, that warped the trees into something evil.

Old Stuff Wednesday - 2008 Chicago GT Best Appearance Army: Khorne Demons

The return of Old Stuff Wednesday. Its been a while since I last done an Old Stuff Wednesday post. I pretty much stopped some of my normal postings over a year ago after being diagnosed with some major health issues that led to an extended recovery and hobby lay off, but as I'm recovering I'm getting back to my old self and getting in some much needed hobby time. So, what better way of bringing back Old Stuff Wednesday that coming out with my most award winning and notable army that I have ever produced.....the Khorne Demons.

This army dates back to 2008, and I had some very stout competition for best appearance at Games Workshop's Chicago Grand Tournament organized and ran by former GW great Dave Taylor. This was the debut for this army, only a few people had seen it and knew what I was doing.

In GT fashion for those that were going for the Best Appearance, of course I was a horrible player and tactician at the time (probably still am), every model in the army was converted in some way.

The army was led by my Blood Thirster with a couple of Khorne Heralds, Flesh Hounds, msu Bloodletters, and a unit of Khorne converted Screamers.

This was the first time that I really did anything elaborate on the basing. I came up with the idea of using pools of blood and the Khorne Demons sending their hapless victims to the pits of hell being dragged down in the depths of the blood pools.

The pools were simply smoothed out bases, with red swirl patterns painted on them and then sealed with high-gloss polyurethane wood finish to give them some depth.
The army later developed into something more playable, and I started to understand the tactics and and add some other things to it later on. It went on to win best appearances at all, but a couple of events that I played in and I think both of those, I was not eligible to win as I had won an appearance award at the GT or won best appearance at the previous tournament.
Above and below is one of my Heralds that also counts as Skull-Taker on occasions.

I still own every piece of this army. A couple of the pieces are beginning to show their age and need a little repair, but the bulk of the army is still in pristine shape and it essentially is relegated to sitting in a tub not be used with the demise of Warhammer Fantasy.
Tune in next month, probably in couple of weeks for another episode of Old Stuff Wednesday.....

My Bloodthirster....The Face to Fear

Yea, he's mean and ugly.  Lots of major and minor conversion work done on him. Fresh pics of him with my DSLR camera.  Even has some game table flock on him, as the model does get used.
This is a throwback to showing of my old stuff.  I converted and painted this monster back in 2008 to lead my all Khorne Demons fantasy army.  It was the center piece of the army that won me Best Appearance in Games Workshop's 2008 Chicago GT.   It also made first cut in the Golden Demon's Paint contest at Gamesday in the Monster category, which is really good for just an army piece.
It is some of my better paint work, all brush work, no airbrush on this.  The left leg is moved forward, new whip handle, added armor, new tabard of chains, more hair, chains and skulls added to the wings like the Belakor demon prince.
The reds have tons of highlights and shades put into them.  The wings drove me insane painting them.
Changed the detail of the axe.  Added the skull for the belt line.
Added Khorne symbols to the axe.  Added the gauntlet, and the brass knuckles.
Removed all of the old skulls from the beltline and added more up to date skulls.
The basing:  Yea I wanted to go with blood pools and not lava.  Everyone does lava.  To make mine different all of the basing for the army had a theme of hands coming up out of the pools of blood dragging humans and human body parts down to the depths of where ever Khorne comes from.  So simply I smoothed out all of the bases where the blood would be, added the bits, painted the reds for the pools and swirls, then when all done and sprayed with clear, I went back to the bases and covered all of the blood with high gloss urethane to make it pop.
If you look really close at the highlighted Brass colors, you'll notice the use of a purple and green wash depending on how the light hits it.  Year their is also dark brown, black, and rust colored washes too, along with Vallejo Smoke.
So the model is nearly 7 years old, been used alot, has along with the rest of the army won me numerous tournament best appearance awards and is still holding up with only a minor paint chip and damage on one of the wings that I'll be repairing soon.

With the new plastic Blood Thirster having come out, at some point I will probably buy one, and downgrade this model to a Demon Prince for the army.   I have one more of these old metal Blood Thirsters, that I had always planned to convert and build, just didn't get around to it.  Its now on my desk being sketched on, and should make a nice Demon Prince model for my Chaos Warriors army of mutants.  Next time I paint something this large, the base coats are going to be laid down with my airbrushes.

New Warhammer Demon WIP for my Khorne Army

Since I built my Khorne Demon army I've only made one addition to the army and that was a unit of OOP Blood Letters, the old beefed up metal models.  I've had this model setting on my desk for a quite a long time.
The ole Belakor model.  I thought it would look pretty cool in the army and have wanted to paint it for quite some time.  So I think it will make a cool addition.  I did not do any conversion work on it.  My old army is all mounted on smooth faux blood pool bases.  To prep the base, I sanded and shaved all of the relief off it.
Back when I built the army, I used pieces of cut up plasti-card for the bits of land, covered in HO Scale railroad ballast.  I had also added heads and demonic looking hands in the blood pools.

Old Stuff Wednesday - November: Beastman Chariot #2

Back to my old Beastmen Army from 2003, the second of two chariots.  Don't remember everything about this one, but I did convert the gor rider with the great sword, and the driver is one of the old metal beastmen.

I painted the bestigor in red face paint, because at the time I was marking things with Khorne.  For the first chariot I had used the old metal beastman chariot, for this one I used the old plastic orc chariot.
The great sword was something that I had built out of plasti-card.

The shoulder pads from the plastic chaos marauder box, which gave the model a bit heavier bestigor look.

 Until next month.......
