Old Stuff Wednesday: The Cerulean Templar

My first Cerulean Templar Emperor's Champion.  A lot of conversion work on this model dating back to around 2001.
I used a few Bretonian parts, but the bulk of the model was my green stuff sculpting in the Head, band around the head, the robe, the mail, and a bunch of other little things.

Old Stuff Wednesday: 40k Cerulean Templars: Terminator Squad

Yep, a bunch of OOP Terminators from Cerulean Templars army.  Circa 2002.
Don't have these models any more.

Old Stuff Wednesday: Big Screen TV 40k Templar

Many years back I did a test sketch for one my 40k armies the Cerulean Templars.  I believe the sketch was done in pen &ink, water color, and color pencil.
I actually built a spacemarine to look like the concept sketch

Old Stuff Wednesday - December: Butcher's Nurgle versus the Cerulean Templars

I don't really remember when I had taken these, but its was in one of those classic battles between my Cerulean Templars and Mike Butcher's horde of Nurgle.

Very cool old stuff.

Old Stuff Wednesday - December ... Cerulean Templars vs. Nurgle

A long long time ago (circa 2004) Mike Butcher and I played this epic game of 40k in a local store, with tons of miniatures on the board, nearly every last one of them converted in some manner. I don't really remember the outcome other than I lost, but I took a number of photos.  Most all of the pics are after the unpacking.  Dig the craziness of the conversion work. Nothing like throwing down with really cool miniatures.

 He's phat.

 Help me!

Old Stuff Wednesday - November...40k Templar Dreadnought

Back quite a long time ago I painted up a dreadnought for my 40k Cerulean Templar army. This is one of the miniatures where you start painting and things really start clicking as far as the paint work goes. It was also back in my period of painting in this ultra-stylized method (Heavy Bart Sears X-O Manowar armor influence) for highlighting. And it was the first miniature that I did not use any metallic paint on, yes the “so-called NMM”. I do have a rant that I often use regarding miniature painters and the ridiculous terminology that they use for describing their painting, but I won’t get in to that right now.
This is the only dreadnought that I built and painted for this army, so I did want it to be sort of special, and if I remember correctly it was during my Bolter & Chainsword forum posting days and they were running a contest on painted Dreadnoughts and it placed fifth in the voting which did win me a prize.
The painting work for me was special. When I think of dreads, and the mythology that Games Workshop has created around what dreadnoughts are, I think of special characters. They should be treated that way in the army, a sort of center show piece for the army. So as I was painting, I explored doing some heraldry on the model and sculpted a tabard and a bunch of purity seals, very minor conversion work.

This is one of the very few models that I have kept from the Cerulean Templars army. It’s a nostalgia thing with me. Even if I sell off one of my armies, I normally keep a few pieces of it. Looking at cool models is always far better than looking at pictures. It is also a nice visual when I do paint seminars locally, as once and awhile, fresh people at my seminars will say they recognize a particular model. And it does show a progression in skill and style.
One day I do plan to rebase the model. Back then I really did not have a good grasp on basing and have never been happy with how that turned out. The theme of the basing was this sort of urban fight thing, but I don’t think I really pulled that off very well.
That’s it for now, enough nostalgia, it makes me feel old, back to more modern stuff in the next post. I think for Old Stuff Wednesday in December, I will dig up some photos of a massive battle that Mike Butcher and I had way back, my Templars versus his zombie / Nurgle horde.

A 40k Cerulean Templar finished...First in a Decade

It has been a long time since I painted a space marine. It’s been a decade since I painted a marine for my Cerulean Templar 40k army.

We had a local contest, where we were given a model to paint and convert, and so I ended up with a mismatched set of bits for a plastic scout sniper. The problem was the torso was for the kneeling shooter and the legs were for the standing scout. So the solution was simple, wip out a quick conversion as I really did not have time to spare with the contest deadline, to cover up the problem. This meant converting a base, urban rubble to match my old army, and piece of GS on the cape.

I decided that I may as well do an urban camo pattern for the cape, since he is a sniper.

I’ve been doing so much Fantasy and Ancients/Historicals lately that it was refreshing to paint a 40k Space Marine. I’ve nearly forgotten how much fun a space marine is to paint.

Been thinking lately about doing another space marine army. I may have to revist the Medieval Space Marine theme or possibly do a Word Bearer army.

'dem Blue 40k Templars...motorpool

A bit more nostalgia, did these vehicles years ago. Back then I was just figuring out painting freehand, always been drawing and have done some watercolor and marker stuff, but messing with acrylics this way was a first for me back then.

I sold this crusader and the rhino with the sort of halo effect not too long ago. Really don't have the passion to play 40k anymore. I love the models, but became disenchanted with the game.

So there you have it most of the more modern motorpool. When I was playing this army I also had two of the older style rhinos, one of which was in the previous post.
