Our Ruling Class doesn’t consist of people who actually take risks themselves. They send other people to go do that while taking the credit for being courageous. They are, as a general rule, cowards and/or draft dodgers or people who purchase comfy tours of duty far from danger. (Indeed, the last president to risk his neck in a war zone was Bush 41, shot down during WWII). While brave men sacrifice for others, our Ruling Class members get rich or stay in DC and fatten themselves while giving the orders that cause others to suffer so they can look tough. So increasingly, we are ruled by chickenhawks who, When their country called, found clever methods to stay out of harm’s way.

But at some level they still want to be taken for men even though they are narcissistic greedy cowards like Joe Biden. So what do you do when you are a narcissistic greedy coward whose policies and incompetence sent a brave man to his death and you are face to face with his father? You go all jock soldier on him, sidle up and try to talk burly man talk to him like you are in a locker room after the big game. You try to get him to welcome you as a fellow man because then you might not feel like the coward and moral failure you know in your heart that you are: the man who killed his son while you were at some wine and cheese soiree.

Only in this case, you are Joe Biden and you are so into yourself that you cannot gauge how grotesque you look and sound. So you wind up turning the stomach of the father whose son you and your boss incompetently killed as you try to turn even a memorial service into something that is, at bottom, all about you.

You selfish oaf.

These men should all be stripped of office and sent to clean toilets in Afghanistan till the war is over. That such brave men and their families should have to take orders from such venal and swinish narcissists turns my stomach. It would have been right and proper for that father to slap that man’s face and spit in it. But he had too much class for that. Way more class than Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, since my gorge rises in revulsion at this particularly repellent display of narcissism more than normal, I have an obligation to forgive Biden and I do. May God not hold this sin against him.

But I have no obligation to stay quiet. So I will repeat what I’ve been saying with renewed force: No decent person should cast a vote for this man or his boss.

I saw the family on Hannity last night. They had more class and Christian virtue than Biden could dream of having. Biden has been a national tooth-ache since his elevation to the Vice Presidency. Let's hope this classless lunk gets sent back into well-deserved obscurity next Tuesday.

Former Biden aide writes "tell all."

Adding another wild-card to the 2012 campaign’s final days, a former aide to Vice President Joe Biden has written a tell-all Washington memoir in which he lacerates the former Delaware senator as an “egomaniacal autocrat” who was “determined to manage his staff through fear.”

The book is hardly an objective study of the vice president, however. Author Jeff Connaughton, a Biden Senate staffer turned lobbyist, is by his own admission deeply disillusioned with the capital and embittered about his experience with the man who inspired him to enter politics.

Connaughton wrote “The Payoff,” which came out last month, in the fashion of guilt-racked whistle-blower: he was a party to a corrupt system and now wants to blow the lid off the game.

“I came to D.C. a Democrat and left a plutocrat,” he confesses.

As chief of staff to former Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-Del.), Biden’s successor, Connaughton was radicalized by his unsuccessful experience trying to get an amendment to the Dodd-Frank financial regulation bill that would have broken up the country’s largest banks. So he left Washington politics and wrote what he believes is the unvarnished truth about the country’s political system. The big reveal: Big banks control both parties.

“It’s time people understand why – and how – Wall Street always wins,” Connaughton writes at the outset of his book.

He is harshly critical of his own party and the Obama administration, arguing that the president is no different than most other Washington Democrats in his willingness to kowtow to Wall Street.

President Obama and Biden, he writes, are “both financially illiterate.”

Biden flies his Catholic flag like a tribal identity marker. He wants to pick up votes from other tribalists, but when the state attacks his church, Biden is willing to play "Uncle Tom" and give the state cover.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has called Biden out on his execrable lie from the debate:

Last night, the following statement was made during the Vice Presidential debate regarding the decision of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to force virtually all employers to include sterilization and contraception, including drugs that may cause abortion, in the health insurance coverage they provide their employees:

“With regard to the assault on the Catholic Church, let me make it absolutely clear. No religious institution—Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital—none has to either refer contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact. That is a fact.”

This is not a fact. The HHS mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain “religious employers.” That exemption was made final in February and does not extend to “Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital,” or any other religious charity that offers its services to all, regardless of the faith of those served.

HHS has proposed an additional “accommodation” for religious organizations like these, which HHS itself describes as “non-exempt.” That proposal does not even potentially relieve these organizations from the obligation “to pay for contraception” and “to be a vehicle to get contraception.” They will have to serve as a vehicle, because they will still be forced to provide their employees with health coverage, and that coverage will still have to include sterilization, contraception, and abortifacients. They will have to pay for these things, because the premiums that the organizations (and their employees) are required to pay will still be applied, along with other funds, to cover the cost of these drugs and surgeries.

USCCB continues to urge HHS, in the strongest possible terms, actually to eliminate the various infringements on religious freedom imposed by the mandate.

So now we know what Team Obama's comeback plan was following last week's defeat in the Presidential debate. Unleash Joe Biden to interrupt, filibuster, snarl, smirk and otherwise show contempt for Paul Ryan. The carnival act contributed to the least illuminating presidential or vice presidential debate of our lifetimes.

From the opening bell, Mr. Biden seemed to take to heart the interpretation that President Obama offered this week of his debate performance—that he had been "too polite." That was not a problem for the Veep, whose marching orders were clearly to steamroll the overmatched moderator Martha Raddatz and dismiss everything Mr. Ryan said with a condescending sneer.

By unofficial media counts, Mr. Biden interrupted the Republican some 80 to 100 times. Mr. Ryan let the bully get away with too much for our tastes, at least until he finally pushed back on the interruptions or until Mr. Biden lost steam in the last half hour. But as anyone who's been in a tavern past midnight understands, it's hard to win a fight with a guy who is shouting from the corner bar stool.

After last night, it's safe to say that Biden locked up the critical swing "Chris Matthews Voter" block.

Joe Biden appealed to Democratic partisans, firing them up by attacking and, even more often, smirking at Paul Ryan’s arguments. But smirks only work when your audience starts off agreeing with you. That would be the case with strong Democratic partisans, but it’s not at all that clear that it appeals to Independents, or to those who are undecided or moveable. He was trying to dismiss Ryan’s arguments as ridiculous, in line with Democratic talking points that no rational person could possibly agree with him, but I think that only works with people who are already convinced. He may have increased Democratic voters’ enthusiasm—down in the dumps after Barack Obama’s performance eight days ago—but he didn’t do much in the way of converting those who are not already converted.
