Illustration: Game of Thrones Map

Via: Reddit

I found this browsing through the Game of Thrones Subreddit, enjoying all the memes last weekend's episode spawned. I initially couldn't believe it was hand drawn, but after seeing the rest of Reiner's DeviantArt gallery, I realized that he's just an incredibly gifted artist. As I write this, Reddit is begging him to offer this as a poster print.

Redditors are evenly split between those telling him that it would be totally legal to sell prints without permission and those offering schemes to get Reiner's art in front of George R.R. Martin so that he can give it his personal stamp of approval.  Personally, I don't care how it happens, I just want one of these on my wall.

Click through to the Reddit thread to give this guy a much-deserved upvote.  Then, check out his interview in the first part of Artcore's new interview series, Draw Four.

Woodwork: Laser Engraved Westeros Map

Maps available for purchase from Etsy. US$978.38

This fan-made 3D wooden map was laser engraved by DivergnDesigns out of the small town of Bathurst located in the Central West of NSW, Australia.

The map is gigantic, two meters across and over a meter tall.  It's mounted in an aluminum frame for easy mounting.  The back-board and is finished in a natural red-tinged Amerind Lauan ply featuring engraved contours, inner rivers, locations, compass and boats.

The map details 334 Westeros and Essos locations, twenty-six of which are portrayed with an engraved icon. It also features engraved animals, over 1900 trees, and individual islands as small as 4mm in diameter.  The 3D effect is enhanced by mountain ranges consisting of up to five contour height-derived layers, all unique in shape providing saddles, peaks and plateaus with engraved mountain ranges varying in styles and sizes.

The entire piece is sealed with multiple coats of Polycrylic to protect it against wear, tear, and light moisture.

Illustration: Inside the Tree Fort

Check out this incredible cutaway illustration of the interior of Finn and Jake's tree fort from Adventure Time.  He includes a ridiculous amount of detail, introducing a whole new level of realism to the cartoon universe.  I’ll include the complete pictures below as well as some enlarged versions of certain sections so you can all admire it for yourself.  Degtyarev has larger versions on his ArtStation page, but I'm very sad to say that he doesn't offer any poster prints for purchase.  I'd certainly buy one if he did.
"If you ever wonder the structure of Finn and Jake’s house from Adventure Time, then here is the answer! The detailed cut-away illustration, showing living floors, secrets and abandoned areas. With lovely main characters hanging around."

At Tabletop Whale, graphic designer and molecular biologist Eleanor Lutz showcases her scientific infographics, illustrations and drawings. Examples include virus trading cards, colorful butterflies of North America, immunology pop art and a user's guide to muscles.

Lutz's work has been featured all over the internet, including in an interview for Paste Magazine and an article for Wired.  She also has a Tumblr devoted to her work.  Check out some of the highlights from her galleries at the links below:

After experimenting with "Ottoman Star Wars" for his graduation thesis portfolio, Istanbul artist Murat Palta created a series of illustrations for classic Hollywood films in the style of Ottoman miniatures, including, among others - The Godfather, Alien, Ghostbusters. Rich in detail and full of humor, he extends his attempt at 'combining global with local, traditional with contemporary...', by turning to classics of Western Literature - Don Quixote, Lolita, Harry Potter.

Sculpture: Microscape

Microscape

"Microscape" by New York-based TO+WN Design and AJSNY

The Manhattan skyline is one of the most iconic cityscapes in the world, being featured time and time again in films, and forever being photographed by both tourists and professionals alike. From the famous Empire State Building, to the stately Chrysler building, to Grand Central Station, there is undeniably something special about New York’s buildings and skyline, though until now representations of it have been traditionally stuck in 2D. Fortunately, New York based startup Microscape has made it their mission to turn the iconic architecture of Manhattan into a detailed, scaled-down 3D printed model—for the ultimate souvenir.

From the world’s major metropolitan centers to suburban cul-de-sacs, microscape combines highly detailed 3D scan data with manual computer modeling techniques to create completely customizable scale architectural models that are as accurate as they are beautiful.

The first phase, which is currently available for pre-order on Kickstarter, includes a series of two hundred individual tiles that compose the entire borough of Manhattan.  Fully assembled, the tiles form a 3.5ft by 12ft model.  The project retail price of each 6” x 6” tiles is $125 dollars with a total value of $20,000, but early backers can get a tile for roughly half off.

Concept Art: LucasWorld

LucasWorld Fan-made Concept

This image has been popping up across Facebook today as the “Star Wars Disney Park Plan”. To be very clear, this is 100% not the layout for the upcoming Star Wars Themed Lands coming to Disney Parks. This is a fan-made concept for a park named “LucasWorld” in San Francisco (as clearly labeled in the upper left). Even though we might wish it was real, this park isn’t going to happen aside from on paper.

Infographic: Game Of Thrones in Real Life

This infographic by travel agency Lawrence of Morocco reveals the actual shooting locations used in the hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones. The main headquarters is at Paint Hall studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where most of the interior sets are housed; the better part of location shooting takes place in Northern Ireland, but many other European nations have been used as well.

Most locations have benefited from increased tourism due to the publicity, but not everyone has been pleased. It is rumored that Maltese officials complained that protected habitats were damaged during the filming, forcing future shooting to move to Croatia in season 2. Laws involving the transportation of animals have also required filming in the U.S., such as the season three episode "The Bear and the Maiden Fair, " and the season five episodes involving a Direwolf.
