Crafts: Robot Cat Condo

Japanese toy designer Kuramochi Kyoryu handcrafted this giant robot cat condo out of cardboard for his two feline overlords. Kuramochi posted photos of his robot design process and of hid two cats fighting over who gets to sit in the driver's seat.

Miniature model Victorian flying machines and airships created out of cardboard, aluminum foil, and a variety of papers or the propellers and sails. Ranging between fifteen and twenty inches tall, each of these fantastic vessel takes van Kesteren about a month to construct.

"Floating City" is a cardboard sculpture measuring two meters in diameter.  It was created with cardboard and glue and suspended from the ceiling.

Installation: The Great Monkey Project



"Cardboard sculptor" James Grashow recently made headlines for his "Corrugated Fountain" installation, but this earlier piece is far more whimsical. Back in 2008, Grashow created 100 life-size monkeys out of cardboard and hung around the San Jose Museum of Art's lobby. As he says, "The more monkeys you have, the more the space between them starts to jump. The ceiling becomes an abstract painting." It's hard not to smile when you see them. Do you think they throw pack material?
