Skylers XC coach cancelled practice today and encouraged all the kids to go run a race so Skyler and I and his friend Will signed up and ran the Days of '47 5k downtown. It was fun and we all did well. Skyler got 3rd for his age/gender division and 14th(?) overall and I got 1st for my age/gender division which was shocking but cool! Good way to start the day!

Hailey Goes Pro! or at Least Collegiate
Tonight we attended Hailey's signing party. She has been recruited by a few different colleges to run. Tonight she held a zoom broadcast to announce that she'll be running for..... (Drum roll please)....
Utah Valley University
After Hailey's announcement Scott held a mini press conference with her and asked her some fun questions. We are so excited for Hailey and her collegiate career!

Fun Run 2018
Last night Tammy, Sheree and I went down to Oakcrest and set up the fun run course. I'm so grateful for these 2 and their help.
Today was the Monster Dash Fun Run. I am incredibly grateful for all the volunteers (there were lots). The day went off with out a hitch and I am so grateful that today is done!
It was fun to watch all my boys run today. Skyler and Trey both won their grades and Carson got 2nd. They all ran hard and were probably the only kids in the entire school that ran the entire time! One of the volunteers came and told me how impressed she was with Trey-she said she noticed him several times encouraging class mates and helping some up.

Revel BC 1/2 Marathon
Back in the beginning of August I was out running one morning when I ran into a couple friends from my ward, also out running. We got to talking and they told me that they were training for a half marathon. I wished them well and they started trying to convince me that I should run it with them. I have never had any kind of desire to run any kind of marathon be it a 1/2 or a full. they kept talking and finally told me that the race is 100% downhill. And for the first time ever I started to think maybe just maybe I would do it. The race was on September 8th, only a month away.... The longest I had run at that point was 7 miles which actually was about right on with a lot of training programs. Well log story short, I signed up. Today was the day. I started with the 9:30 mile pacer but once I got going I felt pretty good and wanted to try to move up a little. At some point I saw the 9:00 mile pacer and realized I could reach him! I had a bit of an adrenaline rush and quickly caught up. I thought I would just stay with that pacer but after a minute I realized that I still was feeling really good and wanted to push it a bit more. I said good-bye to the 9:00 pacer and never saw him again.
Well my biggest accomplishment from today is that I can say I ran 100% a half marathon! I finished it and ran the whole way. I was pretty proud of myself. Secondly I finished with a 8:41 mile pace which I was really excited about. I finished at 1:53:?? and I was so happy that I came in under 2 hours. Lastly, I did NOT get passed by any of the marathon runners! haha That may sound funny but I was actually worried about that!
This picture was taken on the bus ride up the mountain where we sat in mylar blankets for an hour and a half before it was race time. So glad I had a friend with me!

SSR Stake 5k
Today Skyler and I ran in our stake 5k today. First of all we got there WAY to early so we had a lot of waiting time. We did get some fun pictures though! Just before the race my friend came up to me and said, "Skyler is very concerned about you. He doesn't think that you'll be able to keep up with him." Haha-that's funny cuz I was concerned about him-that he was going to blitz out of the starting gate and I would be scooping him off the pavement half way through the race. Well as it turns
out Skyler was right! He blitzed out and I could see him for the first mile or so until we hit a big bend in the road. After that I didn't see him again until the end of the race. He finished in 23:52! He got second place for his age
group which was 14 and under (He'll be 8 next week). The kid who won his age group was probably 12 or 13 and Skyler wasn't too far behind him. Well I ran the whole thing and came in at 27:59 which which I was pleased with how I did. So proud and amazed by this boy of mine today!
