Weekly Wrap-up March 25th 2023

 -sleeping babies are cute
-We celebrated March 21st (World Down Syndrome Day). Overall it was a fun day. We are so grateful to have Olivia and for all she teaches us. Heres how we celebrated:

-Got Olivia and myself cool new shirts
-I helped with a presentation in Treys class. I created a 10 question blookit that taught the kids about         Down syndromein a fun way. Another mom provided socks for the kids to wear.
-sent home flyers in Andrews and Kaylas classes asking the kids to wear crazy socks. I then took in         a treat for those who wore their socks!
-a group of us sent home a flyer, and socks and provided a treat for Olivias class
-asked friends and family to "rock their socks" on March 21st
-We attended the Art City Elementary School musical (Zed and Alice Everitt's school). They did Beauty and the Beast and it was so fun. Olivia dressed up as Belle and we were able to get pictures with her and Belle and the Beast afterward. We loved seeing Zed and Alice perform!!!

Happy World Down Syndrome Day!

Today has become for us, Crazy Socks Day or Rock your Socks Day. Why? Today, 3/21, is World Down Syndrome Day since people with Down Syndrome have 3 of the 21 chromosome.

From google:

Since there are three 21s, World Down Syndrome day is March 21st (3/21)! Why Crazy socks? When looking at a karyotype (a picture of our chromosomes, stained for viewing under a microscope), the chromosomes look like paired socks. The staining makes them look striped.

So, today, in honor of Olivia, we asked our friends and family to join us in ROCKING CRAZY SOCKS. I was overwhelmed by the pics of people who joined us and am so grateful for the love support!

All about Down Syndrome

Shortly after moving into our new neighborhood, I started hearing rumors that there was another family, just up the street that had a child with Down Syndrome. Well, the rumor were true and we soon met the awesome Spence family. Kristin and I became instant friends and she has been an amazing resource as I've learned this new path.

Recently, Kristin texted me to see if I would want to join forces and go in to our kids 4th grade class to teach them about Down Syndrome. I jumped on board and helped get things ready. Today we talked to the kids and educated them about DS. It was really fun to have Carter and Olivia there as visuals. Kristin had purchased all the kids socks to wear on 3/21 for "Rock Your Socks" Down Syndrome awareness day. I had so much fun and enjoyed learning more abpou DS myself!!
