Eryka's Spring Must Haves

Hi Life As I Know It readers! I am Eryka from abcde.

Ashley and I are swapping blogs for the day. {exciting huh?} I am going to tell you a little about myself and my blog as well as share some of my must have spring items. Does that sound ok? Alright. Awesome-sauce!

My blog abcde, is where I post about my life as a wifey, post things that inspire me and things I love. I have really worked at making my blog a place where I can be myself. I wrote a post a while ago about why I blog. You can read it here.

You are probably wondering what abcde stands for. Well, I'll tell you. It's my husband and I's initials all mixed up. A-my middle name Ann B-hubby's middle name Bruce C-our last name Clark D-hubby's name Daniel E-my name! Pretty neat huh? I think so!

So, now that you know a little more about my blog. Time to share my Spring must haves. This Spring I am loving all the pastels and bright colors out. All the colored skinny jeans are so cute. I still need to get me some asap. Also, stripes. I am in LOVE with stripes these days. Can't have too many. Also, I always love a good wedge shoe. Here are a few things I am swooning over from the web.

Thank you so much for reading. Now that you know more about my blog. Feel free to stop by and say hi! I love new readers and love checking out new blogs to read. Hope to see you all there! xoxo

Guest Post Today!!!

Today we have a guest post by Nathan

Life & Everything Else In Between

He has a very exciting announcement that he wanted to share with the world!!

When Ashley posted her request for guest posts I had to think a little. I thought could I do this? Do people that I don’t even know or have never even read my blog want to hear what I have to say? I have so much to say! I can do this! Like many of us, once I hit that ‘I can do this’ moment I may have let those thoughts go for a while, shrugged it off, and decided against it because I’ve never done a guest post and didn’t want to make a fool out of myself. However, I’ve had a certain something on my mind for a while that I haven’t been quite able to let out. Not really a secret, but a major announcement.
I’m not quite ready to post this particular announcement on my blog for reasons you’ll soon find out. I’ve been extremely excited and anxious to tell people about this major development in my life and when I saw Ashley’s call for guest posts I thought, wow, what better way to express how I feel than make this announcement a guest post on Ashley’s blog so that all of you can join in my excitement!
Before I go any further into detail, let me tell you a little about myself. I’m a twenty-five year old happily married young man who lives in the mountains of Northern Vermont. I’m originally from the coast of Maine (culture shock) and I love the water. My favorite time of year is summer and my favorite saying is that Life is Good isn’t just a trademark, it’s a fact! I have a yellow lab named Chloe and I consider her my best friend. I started blogging many years ago when I met a kid at camp who told me about how when he was angry he wrote. I decided I was going to write! The only twist was that I was going to write about Life and everything else in between! I’ve had many different blogs on the web up until last April/May when I was looking at an old high school friend’s facebook page and noticed that she blogged using blogger. I checked out her blog and was fascinated. I was intrigued by her posts and inspired. Inspired so much that I wanted to use blogger and well, here I am! I don’t have a lot of followers yet, I’m still relatively new, I get ragged on by facebook friends who read my blog for the fact that I even have a blog. Apparently blogging is not a 'guy thing'. Doesn’t bother me a bit though, blogging is my escape! I love it even if there’s not always a method to my madness! Ashley was actually one of the first people to follow my blog and that’s how I started following her. So, that being said, let me get back to Life as I know it!
My wife and I have been happily married for three going on four years now. Three years ago when we moved into our current apartment we got a beautiful yellow lab. Chloe is our world and we love her to death. We don’t treat her like a pet; we treat her like a member of the family, as if she were a kid, that’s what we consider her. I have a passion for animals and I would own many if time allowed it. As much as I love animals, I love family just as much. For a few years now, Erin and I have been discussing family. We’ve discussed our future, how many kids we want, how we want them to grow up, etc.
chloe12.jpg
In the process of talking about kids we’ve taken the time to learn about the value of having kids and the value of life. Last year, Erin traveled to Guatemala to help family’s build homes and have a place to live. I’ve had the privilege of working with children teaching theatre and being a big brother to them. In my current jobs I see people, both good and bad, and watch the way they treat their kids and other members of their family. Through these observations and learning experiences I came to the conclusion that I wanted my own kid and I want to give them everything I can and do everything I can to watch them grow up and be successful.
This year Erin and I made a few choices. One of those choices was that we were going to try to have a baby! The other was that if we weren’t successful Erin was going to plan to go to Guatemala again in February. Well, I’m happy to report (for good reason) that Erin will not be going to Guatemala again this year! My major announcement is that Erin and I are expecting! I’ve known for about a month now but haven’t said anything because we want to wait until Erin’s second doctor’s appointment on October 25th to make the official announcement to co-workers, friends, etc. Our families already know and couldn’t be more excited for us! Heck, I’m excited for us!
I’ve always considered myself a down to earth, genuine, organized, and responsible person. Adding a new member to our family will require all of those traits to be upped a notch. I feel that a gift is being given to us and with a great gift comes great responsibility. I see so many people who don’t treat their kid’s right and it tears me up. I watched one woman two weeks ago come into our store with three kids and she literally had them tied to her. Those kids were out of control! They touched everything, they licked everything, and it was nasty! Another customer said awful cruel things to their kids when they picked up something in the store. As a father, I would never treat my kids that way. I will do the best job that I possibly can with my kid and I would never treat them like either of those parents. I will teach them right from wrong and I will not abuse them, verbally or physically! I know it’s not easy, nothing ever is, but I made a commitment to myself and my family when I decided to try for this baby and that was that I’m going to put my heart and soul into this. The baby deserves every bit of love I can give!
babyroom.jpg
Now, it’s time to be the man of the house. As you can see from the photo above I have some work to do! Yes, this is the baby’s room. Right now, it’s more the office, museum, and craft center. Soon, that will all change! The photos will come down, the walls will be stripped, painted, furniture will be moved and that photo will look much different come early June when the baby arrives. We've already decided on names for either a girl or boy and we do plan to find out. Erin and I have decided to keep the names on the DL for now but I think they're good and I'm very happy with them!
So, that is my major announcement! I feel a bit relieved to have told all of you and I can’t wait to tell all of my co-workers and friends! I want to thank Ashley for allowing me to post a guest blog to make my announcement. I read Ashley’s blog regularly and I’m very encouraged by what she has to say. Her love for her dogs is definitely something I can relate too! I must admit that I was quite nervous to write my first guest blog and not because of the topic but because of the fact that I don’t know any of her followers. I’m sure you’re all great though and I’m sure you all have great blogs as well. Feel free to stop by my blog sometime and check it out! http://spreenmvp.blogspot.com/
Have a good day everybody!

Isn't that an exciting guest post? Congrats Nathan and Erin!! I wish you all the best with the remainder of the pregnancy, as well as getting ready for the baby!

My 7 Links

It is Friday, and as you know I am super swamped with wedding prep today. Two weddings in one day = one LONG day but at least it is filled with love!!!

Sooo Alison (- remember Alison) has tagged me in a fun, but super challenging task. Here it goes:

What you need to do is link:
  • Your most beautiful post
  • Your most popular post
  • Your most controversial post
  • Your most helpful post
  • A post whose success surprised you
  • A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
  • The post that you are most proud of
And then tag 5 people to play along.

Most Beautiful Post:
I am going to say that my 4th Wedding Anniversary post was beautiful, because it reflects on sooo much about who I am today and why.
Most Popular Post:
According to my stats in blogger, my most popular post was Thoughts On Thursday and like Alison, there was only 2 comments (hers being one of them...) I think it is the most popular because my blog post probably pops up for subjects like: porno, recipes, various types of alcohol, shopping, bras, clearance, sewing, and more... (It was a long random post). I would like to think those topics do not "make up my blog" - lol
I am also flattered to share that people have found my blog by googling "life as i know it ashley" the most. Who is it? And thanks friend!!
Most Controversial Post
This one is hard!! Hmmm... I am going to say the Bathroom Etiquette, although all of us, but one agreed and saw the humor in it. But like Alison, my topics are not all that controversial. I suppose this one could be: Life Isn't. I like that everyone gets along on my blog... because I HATE the drama!!
Most Helpful Post
Who I Am Today was my most helpful post according to the comments.
Post Where Success Surprised Me
I have no idea where to take this one.... does this post count.. jk.
I am going to post the "page" House Old and New. Because the success we had at selling out old house and the success we have had a renovating our new one. Each link on the page shows before and afters!
Didn't Get The Attention
I feel that my reflection posts do not get as much attention. I don't blog for attention though, so it doesn't bother me!
Post I am Most Proud Of
I am actually super proud of picking this blog back up after a slow start. I have learned soo much and continue share my life lessons. Sometimes it is nice to have a reminder. But I guess I need to link up a post. I really liked the post on Who I Am Today as linked above... I also liked the So What Wednesday and this one. Okay I liked them all, so just search my blog for them... I think I'll start doing those again!
Now let me see who I can get to do this too.... it was fun... hard, but fun!!! I will pick 5 of my favs and cross my fingers - you should too - its worth it!

Oh Ya We Did....

Sorry about the post lackage on Friday... sometimes life gets too busy for blogging! Also, sometimes the weather takes away your internet and prevents you from blogging or makes you blog later than you choose to.... But fear not, I am back with another edition of:

So Friday - M worked on mudding the closet and then we headed to his ball game - which they lost by 1... but they had no umpire and it should have been tied.... just sayin'.

Saturday morning was started early with a call from Mike's Dad saying he didn't have to work today, so M came back to bed and then was awaken again shortly by his pager for a Co2 alarm going off. I rolled out of bed around 9:00. M sanded the walls and applied the next coat of mudding. He then informed me that he was going to take me on a date to see Bridemaids that night. I knew that evening plans would not work with our painting schedule, so I agreed to the date, but decided to leave in 20 minutes for it instead. Since the mud had to dry, we decided to take advantage of that time and got ready quickly and headed to town.

And this is what we wore:

(excuse the renovation junk in the background and my lack of hair style... got ready in 5 minutes)
Oh ya we did:

His shirt actually says game over...
and we saw:

It was pretty good, with a touch of gross, but overall funny. I will also mention that we were running late and missed the previews, which I was fine with because I don't care to watch them, but M loves that part of any movie. We quickly grabbed snacks and a drink and headed into theatre, sat down and my phone started to pocket dial on speaker, I ended up spilling half the bag of my popcorn all because it was pocket dialing my freakin' voicemail.... oppps!!!

After the movie, we followed tradition and grabbed some Dairy Queen... mmhmmm rolo blizzard for me and chocolate dipped waffle cone with vanilla ice cream for M please!

We came home, M cut the grass before MORE rain came and boy did it come. We got the closet primed and ready for paint on Sunday morning.

Sunday morning we put on the first coat of paint, which we already had from our bathroom cupboards, thinking we had enough, which of course we didn't. So off to Home Depot again to get another quart of Russian White paint, and some other things we needed as well for the flooring. We had lunch out and grabbed a few groceries and headed back home to get the 2nd coat of paint on. Thanks to the muggy weather, it wasn't quite ready, so M put the closet door up, and got the light ready to hang. By the time that was all done, we put the 2nd coat on quickly, put up the light and down went the floors. Just in time for a massive thunderstorm (which took my internet out). We were yet again supposed to play ball last night, but due to the weather again, we were cancelled. So you have read that correctly, I have not played ball once yet this season!  M and I managed to get the closet rods and shelving up and in place for me to fill today! I have been waiting for this day for a LONG time!!

Pictures will be coming soon of our new master closet!!! I am sooo happy to have it, let me tell you that much!! Now I might be able to get my household back into working order, aside from the basement, which is full of the office furniture!!

So can you guess what I am doing today? Did you guess filling my closet? You are correct!!!

Oh and be sure to pop by Tara's blog today and check out my guest post!!!

Guest Blogger Today!!

I have been humming and hawing for quite a while about how to incorporate a guest blogger onto my blog and I have finally figured it out. Instead of being completely random, I have decided that I will approach the people who have blogs that I LOVE!!! Because if I love them, then CLEARLY you will too... right? RIGHT!!

So let's get this show on the road! Let me introduce you to Alison!!

I absolutely LOVE her blog! You can call me a religious reader of her blog!! So what makes Alison soo special? Well she just happens to have a cute dog, I was going to say the cutest, but let's be honest, my dogs would get jealous! But Cruz is definitely just as cute as mine!! Alison is a CANADIAN, just like me, although we live provinces apart! She is married to this good-looking' guy named Justin and I am sure that one day they will make beautiful babies, because they both are TOO good-lookin'!

So, let's move on to what Alison has to say! I asked her to introduce herself. just in case my introduction didn't sum enough up. (I personally think it covers the important parts..)

Hello Life As I Know It readers! Ashley asked me to guest "about me" post and I am was super excited to be here!

Ashley and I are both Canadian girls and everyone loves a Canadian right!

Well if you don't "know" me already, my name is Alison and I blog over at The Life & Times of Alison & Justin.

If I am being totally honest the title of our blog should be The Life & Times of Cruz and her crew though because our (almost 2 year old) yellow lab stole our hearts the minute we met her so I do a lot of posting about her and her only :). We adore her and she really makes our lives together complete. Well, almost complete - she has been asking for a sibling for a while now...a human sibling that is. Just saying!

Alright, the low down on ME! I work for a private school for students ages 3-18 who are on the autism spectrum or who have other developmental disorders. I teach Life Skills to the senior class and work in the office. I am fortunate to say I honestly love my job. The students make my job less of a job. They crack me up, warm my heart and keep me thinking and on my toes. The only thing that could make my job any better was if Cruz could come to work with me. See obsessed much?!

My husband Justin and I will have been married 2 years as of June 27th. He is the best second half I could ask for and I am very lucky lady. I remind myself of this every single day.

He is the manager of BIM Applications for western Canada for a large Engineering company. And no I don't fully know what that means. :) But he works very hard!

When we aren't working...

I love:
Shopping
Working out
Making headbands & onesies for AW Design
Blogging
Taylor Swift

He loves:
Video games
Mountain Biking
Building stuff :)
Bike movies
Building/Renovation shows & Wild Justice! ha ha

We love:
Walking Cruz with starbucks in hand
The lake
Mountain biking
Camping
Being with our friends & family
Vegging on the couch with a glass of wine

I recently found this quote and it is fabulous. So I will leave you with it.

"Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it."
Here are a few of Alison's posts that just happen to be my favorite. I would highly recommend checking them out... just sayin':

A Letter From Cruz - this is priceless and used to be a part of my reality. I think Cruz has a thing for shoes, just one out of the pair though it seems!!

Thumb Conundrum - this was the very first post that I read of Alison's! After this post, I had to keep reading! Don't ask me why? I love the one line " Just was like Cruz in mud puddle when they let him watch" and if you have seen the pictures of Cruz in mud puddles... it would make you laugh even harder.... sorry Alison, not that your situation was funny or anything...

Etsy Reveal - Awesome awesome stuff!! Alison enjoys sewing too, in fact we both make burp cloths and what not!!

So go ahead, let's hear how much you love her too!!!
