Has the Higgs Boson been found?
Rumours abound that the Higgs boson particle has been discovered but not at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. The rumour is that it has been discovered by the Tevatronat the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. All may become clear at the International Conference on High Energy Physics (ICHEP), which will open in Paris on 22 July.

Two alternative explanations of how the Large Hadron Collider works
To celebrate the re-starting of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) here's two videos to explain how it works; first a new one and then an oldie but goodie...

The Large Hadron Collider
Could the Large Hadron Collider be sabotaging itself?
Here's Channel 4 News's take on the story...
"In a theory reminiscent of the time travelling film Back to the Future, the theoretical physicists Holger Nielsen, from Denmark, and Masao Ninomiya, from Japan, have concluded that its discoveries could be so "abhorrent to nature" that they are coming back to stop their own creation.Food for thought?
They have outlined their thoughts in a series of papers with titles like “Test of Effect From Future in Large Hadron Collider: a Proposal” and “Search for Future Influence From LHC.”
The pair's hypothesis centres around the Higgs Boson, a mysterious tiny particle and building block of life that it is hoped the LHC will discover.
They have come up with a theory that it will "ripple backward through time" and stop the collider before it could make one, like a time traveler who goes back in time to kill his grandfather.
"It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck,” Dr. Nielsen said.
He said that his theories may even provide a "model for God" who "rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them”. "

If CERN get it wrong today

Ignorance breeds violence
Ignorance breeds violence and The Telegraph has the latest example:
If you are unsure what CERN's Large Hadron Collider is designed to do then do visit their website or watch the Large Hadron Collider rap which I have posted before and in the interests of science post again...
"Scientists get death threats over Large Hadron Collider - Scientists working on the world's biggest machine are being besieged by phone calls and emails from people who fear the world will end next Wednesday, when the gigantic atom smasher starts up."I can do no better than report the words of Prof Brian Cox of Manchester University -
"Anyone who thinks the LHC will destroy the world is a t---."Of course if he and I are wrong and the LHC does create a black hole that destroys the Earth, then I do apologise, although it might be a little late by then!
