Finally a useful font... The Sarcastic Font

For too long e-mails, instant messages, web pages and documents have been unable to fully communicate the subtleties of sarcasm. Text delivered without intonation fail to represent the rare form of language where the intended meaning is the opposite of the written word.
Over the internet we yell at each other with ALL CAPS and emphasize with bold and italics, but where is sarcasm? Where is the nuance, the elegance? We say it is time for a change. It's time for a revolution. It's time for a new font style!

Happy Star Wars Day

For Star Wars Day, if you have to ask then you really are not a fan!  Here's the more than two hour hour long 100% fan sourced "Star Wars: A New Hope" fan film...

'In 2009, Casey Pugh asked thousands of Internet users to remake "Star Wars: A New Hope" into a fan film, 15 seconds at a time. Contributors were allowed to recreate scenes from Star Wars however they wanted. Within just a few months SWU grew into a wild success. The creativity that poured into the project was unimaginable.

SWU has been featured in documentaries, news features and conferences around the world for its unique appeal. In 2010 we won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media.

Finally, the crowd-sourced project has been stitched together and put online for your streaming pleasure. The "Director's Cut" is a feature-length film that contains hand-picked scenes from the entire StarWarsUncut.com collection.

Many thanks to Aaron Valdez (video editor - http://www.aaronvaldez.com) and Bryan Pugh (sound design/mixing - http://www.pughtube.com) for the countless hours they put into this masterpiece.

We can't thank everyone enough for making this such a special project.

And for the ladies on Star Wars Day, an idea as to how to celebrate...

Or you could dress up as Princess Leia...

Sometimes I know exactly how Anderson feels - the 'expert' whose answers, whilst correct, just aren't helpful

The life of a technical expert is not always easy, the problem is explaining to corporate or arty types what is and what is not possible. In reality it is usually much easier than in this video but sometimes...

Windows Vista is no laughing matter...

First of all from The I.T. Crowd

IT: What kind of operating system does it use?

Operator: Vista

IT: We're going to die!

Then from The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon doesn't like Windows Vista

But Sheldon prefers Windows Vista to Windows 7

And from Futurama

What is the best number?

Today is the 73rd day of this year.

Big Bang Theory fans will guess what's coming.

Sheldon: What is the best number? By the way, there's only one correct answer.

Raj: 5,318,008?

Sheldon: Wrong! The best number is 73. [Short silence] You're probably wondering why.

Leonard & Howard: No no, we're good.

Sheldon: 73, is the 21st prime number, its mirror 37 is the 12th and its mirror 21 is the product of multiplying, hang on to your hats, 7 and 3. Did I lie?

Leonard: We did it! 73 is the... Chuck Norris of numbers!

Sheldon: Chuck Norris wishes! In binary, 73 is a palindrome, 1001001, which backwards is 1001001, exactly the same. All Chuck Norris gets you backwards is Sirron Kcuhc!

Raj: Just for the record, when you enter 5,318,008 in a calculator, upside down it spells BOOBIES!

Go to Earls Court Station in Google maps and locate the police telephone box outside the station or just put the search location in as "Police Telephone Box" and enter Street View. As you get close to the police telephone box you'll see a set of double >> pointing at it. Click on them and enjoy a Doctor Who treat...

Doctor Who - The Day of the Doctor

I was out last night and so missed the 50th anniversary special. Don't worry, I've Sky+ it in HD and will be sitting down to watch it before lunch. So no spoilers please...

In the meantime here's the rather spiffy 'all the Doctors' image that the BBC have released.

It's good to see Paul McGann take his place in the pantheon...

So how does John Hurt's iteration as The Doctor fit (or is there another explanation for his Doctor)? Also if Time Lords are allowed just 12 regenerations (13 'lives'), is the end coming soon for the Doctor, or will a fix be found? I know there have been exceptions found before to this limit, for more (much, much more) on this topic and others relating to Time Lords, try this Wikipedia page - warning GEEK alert!

Hey Twitter, where's my $595?

Twitter's floatation has provided a handy basis for measuring the value that each Twitter user has contributed to that company's valuation. Time has produced a simple calculator that tells you how much Twitter 'owes' you based on the value you created for it.

 So where's my $595?

Who is Siri?

According to an email from CNN, Siri is Susan Bennett.

Her voice is known by millions of iPhone users. Her identity, up until now, has been unknown.

Meet Susan Bennett, better known as Siri, Apple's voice-activated virtual assistant.

"It seemed like everyone was clamoring to find out who the real voice behind Siri is," says the Atlanta-area resident, "and so I thought, well, you know, what the heck? This is the time."

Apple, typically secretive, won't confirm it. But Bennett says she is Siri. Professionals who know her voice, have worked with her and represent her legally say she is Siri. An audio-forensics expert with 30 years of experience has studied both voices and says he is "100%" certain that the two are the same.

Key Lime Pie replaced by KitKat

I hear that Android 4.4 will not in fact be called Key Lime Pie as everyone had been lead to believe by Google, but will instead be called KitKat. It is being claimed that no money has changed hands between Google and Nestle, how odd.

Miley Cyrus twerking becomes an internet sensation/meme

Miley Cyrus twerking thusly has become an internet sensation, even I covered it earlier today

But then I found Miley Cyrus twerks on famous paintings at Buzz Feed . There are some truly brilliant pieces there, go take a look, but here's my favourite three:
A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte with apologies to Georges Seurat

The Persistence of Memory with apologies to Salvador Dali (actually he'd probably have approved)

The son of man with apologies to René Magritte

I do love a good Internet meme.

Samsung vs Apple in Iceland with Ninjas and a goat

Samsung's latest advert for its Galaxy S4 smartphone makes much of it's support for the Icelandic language. You see an iPhone attempt to swipe a touchscreen and make a call on an actual apple. In case your Icelandic is poor, the text tells Icelandic viewers to use "the phone that understands you." Now enters the Samsung Galaxy S4. The ad's main character, now converted from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy, decides to dance with some ninjas and a goat before taking a bite from an apple.

All very odd.

It's going to be a long day!

The clocks went forward an hour so I have to manually adjust:
Two alarm clocks
One bedside clock
Central Heating
Two underfloor heating controllers
Two ovens
Burglar alarm
One wall clock
One mantelpiece clock
Four timers for lights
Phone system
Numerous cameras
Old spare mobile phones
Clocks in two cars

Thank heavens for the devices that adjust themselves!

How exciting!

British Telecom have just written to me telling me that they've just rolled out fibre optic technology and introduced BT Infinity on my home area, so I can have speeds up to four times faster than the average speed of standard UK broadband.

This is so exciting, well it would be were it not for the fact that I've been on fibre broadband at this address for almost a year now.

British Telecom idiots.
