July 4th ~ Fire works ~ Corpus Christi TX

Here are a few of my favorite firework photos from the night. I think I did pretty good!
I had the camera set on:
Shooting Mode: Manual
(shutter speed) bulb (most ranged between 3 and 5 seconds)
(Aperture Value ) f/11.0
ISO Speed 100
Lens EF75-300mm f/4-5.6
Focal Length 280.0 mm

I am so glad I was able to get a memory card and also that I had the radio remote shutter release. I was able to enjoy the fireworks while taking photos too!!
There are more firework photos on my flickr site.

July 4th Indian Point Park

We decided to go to a park on the other side of Corpus Christi bay to watch the firework show, Indian Point Park. We were a tad bit early (3 hrs) so I had plenty of time to take a lot of photos, Ekk....Below are a few of my favorites from the evening.
Sea Weed washed up on shore.

Laughing Gull, Michael thinks these birds are hilarious :o)

Michael found a beautiful shell with a Hermit crab in it...

Michael and Aunt Diana checking out the Marshes surrounding the park.

Corpus Christi at night.

A photo of the U.S.S. Lexington and Bay Bridge from across the bay just before dark.

Because I had so many photos I have put most of the others on my flickr site.

You can go there and check them out if you'd like...They are in sets and each set has a description so you can decide which photos you would like to look at.

Texas State Aquarium July 4 2008

Here are a few photos from the Aquarium that were taken with the little point and shoot HP camera...
My son the fish...yes he is in with the fish, lol...well kind of sort of!

Checking out an aquarium

Silhouette

View from the Aquarium...the aircraft carrier in the background is the U.S.S. Lexington and that is where the fireworks are going to be launched from...Cool..

One of the dolphins.

July 4th and a BIG UH OH!!

As we all know you never ever leave home with out your camera's batteries, Right? You always have well charged batteries and at least 2...I have learned this lesson!! And not to long ago either!!
Well there is another lesson we should all know....NEVER ~ EVER leave home with out your memory card!! Your camera doesn't work to well without it!! Yes Ladies and Gents I left home with out my Memory card, ugh!! Didn't know it until we got to the Texas Aquarium and I grabbed my camera ready to go have fun and take PHOTOS, NOT!! The door was open for the memory card and I was what, why is this open. Peeked in and said *&^%$#! I looked at Fred and said your not going to believe this, but I have no memory card, UGH!! I was totally disgusted with myself!! I took a deep breath and put the camera back in the bag! I then realized I had brought Michael's little click and shoot HP camera, Yea...It wasn't the Rebel but at least I could try for a few photos...
So the aquarium photos were taken with the HP camera and when I look at them tomorrow I'll see which ones are good enough to share!! Oh and of course I didn't take extra batteries for Michael's camera and it died half way through the aquarium...it just wasn't my day to be around cameras, LOL...
Thank goodness for a GREAT Hubby who took me to Walmart after the Aquarium to purchase another memory card! YEA!! I surely didn't want to miss the evening firework display, not after reading and studying on how to take GREAT fireworks exposures all week!!
I've got some great photos from our evening adventures and since it is 1am and I am very, very tired...I will post those tomorrow!! But below I have left a few teaser photos, lol...I can't have a blog without a photo now can I?

One of many sunset photos and just absolutely gorgeous....I did not touch this up, what you see is what you get and the last sunset photo I took this evening and I LOVE IT!! If you click on it you can see a larger view of it too!! The colors were just awesome, but that is my opinion too!

Okay I just nabbed one firework exposure...Not one of the better ones but this is a 4th of July post and I needed at least one photo of the fireworks...I have quiet a few really nice ones and I will post those tomorrow!!

Thank y'all for stopping in and I hope everyone had a Beautiful 4th of July!! We did have fun and really enjoyed ourselves!!

Playing with the light

I had a complaint (no names mentioned) from a family member that I am not posting any photos of Michael and that they are sick of seeing bugs, birds and blooms, lol....
So here is to you person that is complaining....a photo of Michael!!

If I remember correctly you are also the person that started my son on his battleship crusade, he still hasn't given the game up either!!

Okay he gave me one pose and said enough photos Momma!! So I played with the morning light...and of course my Macro shots too!! Sorry I just can't help myself!!

I also couldn't help myself and wanted to see how the Rebel did with a shot of the Hibiscus! Not to bad!

We had a brief shower this evening. I think we received a total of two drops of rain, seriously! I went outside with the intentions of finding some raindrops before the sunset...I got a few photos before disaster hit!! Battery died, grrr...Put the other Battery in the camera and it was also dead!! Double OUCH!! So below is a few of the photos I was able to take...and yes they are of a critter!!

Green spider on Silver-leaf sunflower.

I didn't see this photo closely until I pulled it up on the computer and laughed when I saw it...I had the exposure wide open (f/36) and shutter speed really slow and the spider moved during the exposure...I thought it was cool...a ghostly spider!

Food Challenge photos

I took some more photos for the photo challenge "Food"
These are what I call "Raw" food!
If you were out in the woods and surviving on what you found here are some of the items you might eat.
Mustang Grapes. Click here for a link and info on Texas Native Grapes!

Cherry Tomatoes. Now you necessarily wouldn't find these in the wild but more than likely in someones garden, lol.

Ahhh Fish, bluegill and sunfish. A tasty treat, use line and hook to catch and you have a delicious dinner! Click here to learn how to cook Bluegill!

Frog legs anyone? I've heard they taste like chicken, lol. Click here to read more about frog legs a high source of protein!

Escargot!! A delicacy in some countries! Click here for some recipes and how to prepare them so that they are not poisonous.

Grasshoppers, Mmmm Mmmm good!! Yes these are food and considered a delicacy in some countries too...To me they make good fish food, lol...I remember being offered chocolate covered grasshoppers one time...an acquired taste I think!! And NO I didn't eat one!! Here is a recipe for fried grasshoppers, click here. If you would like to try a chocolate covered grasshopper I even found a site that sells them, click here.

Red-tailed Hawk

This morning when Michael and I left for town there was a red-tailed hawk on an electric pole. Fred and I had seen him this weekend but I didn't have the camera, I had it today and managed a few photos before Michael started getting antsy...

~Blooms, Bugs & Birds in June ~

Fred went down to the property to shred and I followed along with the camera. I should have been cutting down brush and trees, but I just couldn't help myself. It was 99 degrees F. and in my opinion to DARN HOT!!
Texas Vervain
I am still amazed by the wildflowers I am still finding with our drought in full force and the thermometer in the high 90's during the day!! They just don't give up!!

Silver-leaf nightshade with ants on it.

Dragonfly in the woods near the creek. I loved how the sun was shining through his left wing!

I don't have a clue as to what type of spider this is, it's not in my bug book, sigh! What I thought was strange is that it looks like it has a little tiny skull on it! Ewwww....

This little guy was going up and down the trees. I stood there quietly watching and of course snapping photos. I didn't have the telephoto lens or the tripod, grrr...but I did manage to get 3 decent photos of him. I was able to identify him from the photos and thought he was beautiful!
He is a Black and White Warbler! A first for me and I was excited! I know I need a life seeing as I get excited over a little bird, but I do love birds.

Not sure what this bloom was. It had the smallest delicate bloom and was growing right next to the creek...reminded me of something fairies would dance around! It was not in any of my wildflower books!

Another Argiope Spider. I thought I did a GREAT capture on this one!! Nice and Clear!

This dragonfly was sitting on a log near the creek.

Golden Crownbeard. It was out behind the horse trailer and the sun was hitting it from the west and I thought hmmmm lets experiment with different lenses and see which one gets the closest and keeps it crisp and clear...The lens that came with the camera actually won out ( EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6). I used the 50mm f/1.8 lens and also the 28-105 mmf/3.5-4.5 too. I didn't try the telephoto...I had enough experimenting, lol....I did use the monopod today with my nature photos and I love it!!

Hummingbirds are back!

I tried a different tactic tonight on photographing the hummingbirds. First of all I took down all the feeders except for one. Then I taped all the holes on the feeder on the opposite side of the camera. Then I put the camera on the tripod and had it about 3 feet from the feeder. I decided to use the flash and the remote radio shutter release and sit my rear on the porch! I also tried to adjust the shutter speed so it was super fast on the camera, but I couldn't get it past 200. I know that was probably due to the flash being on and it seems I have some more learning to do...but I am extremely happy with the colors and clearness of the photos....the best I've taken yet!! I'm going to keep trying too, lol!! Can't help myself...I want that perfect photo of a hummer!!

Berrylline Hummingbird

I had some really ticked off hummingbirds too, lol....They even moved to the Sylvia flowers, so I had to go stand there, lol...about 10 minutes before the sunset I put the camera up and moved all the feeders back to their hangers. I wouldn't want the hummers to go to bed hungry or mad!!
