Gracias otra vez por las postales que me enviastes.
Esta es una hermosa vista del Hemisférico en
primer término con el Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofia
al fondo. Como sabes estos son sólo dos de los siete
edificios que forman la faraónica y controvertida Ciudad
de las Artes y de las Ciencias de Valencia.
El otro día leí en El País Digital una entrevista al
crítico de arquitectura William Curtis en la que éste
se despachaba a gusto sobre ésta arquitectura que él
denomina muy ilustrativamente "tecno-kitsch". Para
Curtis éste complejo no es más que un gran show, una
apuesta al marketing, una especie de Disney
arquitectónico, donde todo es retórico, todo es ruido
visual.
Pensé al principio que siendo Curtis británico y por
consiguiente tendente a cierto conservadurismo
formal podría estar exagerando algo, aunque en
lo esencial creo que tiene toda la razón. En lo que si
concuerdo plenamente con él es en la clara distinción
entre ésta Opera del Palacio de las Artes y la de Sydney
cuando se las ha querido comparar. La de Sydney es
una obra maestra pionera en el tipo de solución y en
su técnica constructiva que además resuelve su relación
con el paisaje de una manera original y extraordinaria.

Zaha Hadid says of the spaces in the ten "cones" that
support this building that the idea was to occupy structure; structure becomes program. To me this is a smart revision of conceptual ideas from Louis Kahn's Yale Art Center project.

follow the line of greatest slope of the outer shell
underscoring the procession-like approach of visitors to
the building. Here's a view of the stadium under
construction where you can see the shadows of those
stairs.

It was nice we could visit together the new de Young.
As we saw the entire building exterior is clad in copper,
which eventually will oxidize and take on a greenish tone
to mimic the surrounding trees hues. Swiss poetry!
