2171. Granada. El Carmen de la Fundación Rodriguez-Acosta.

Querido Manuel,

of the Innsbruck Municipal Light and Power

2073. Maison Guiette, Antwerpen

Querida Cristina,

2016.

Besos,
R

1994. Oslo. View from the Town Hall. The Skansen Restaurant

Dear Olof,

The Skansen Restaurant seen in this vintage postcard
was the first functionalist building in Norway. Its elliptical shape with flat roof and continuous ribbon windows was inspired by the shape of an airplane gondola. Its popular terrace has a beautiful view over
the Pipervika Bay.

Respectfully,

1814. New Delhi. Parliament House

Dear John,

This is a vintage postcard featuring an aerial view
of New Delhi including the Rashtrapati Bhavan or President House (on the left), the Central Secretariat,
and the Parliament House with its characteristic
circular shape resembling the Chausath Yogini
Temple, Morena.

1808. Siedlung Höhenblick Frankfurt

Dear Paul,

A contemporary postcard featuring siedlung Höhenblick
in Frankfurt - Ginnheim. "Economic lobbies are the new authorities in urban planning. ...no wonder the architect
is dismissive: I do not build as good as I can, but as bad
as I must" (Ernst May)

1701. Landesschule Klotzsche

Dear Alvaro,

An old postcard depicting the Saxon State School in Dresden. When I looked at this picture beautiful memories of my visit to your Teachers Training College at Setúbal came to my mind. A similar sense of elegance and harmony are shared between these buildings.

Gratefully,
R

1601. Palace of Culture, Leningrad

Dear Peter,

The Palace of Culture in Saint Petersburg (former Leningrad) was a Constructivist project built to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the October Revolution of 1917. From 1933 it was named after
writer Maxim Gorky and is able to accommodate
2,200 people.

1560. Stuttgart, Weissenhofsiedlung

Dear Max,

" The house must fit its occupant like a good suit; it
must clothe him. The main aesthetic principle is this:
the look of the rooms without people in them is
irrelevant; what counts is how people look in them."

Dear Margreth,

"The modern machine needs the "round" element,
for it has the advantage of circular movements as
opposed to the straight forward and backward
movements of man's hand and feet" (El Lissitzky)

1119. Montmagny. Chapelle Sainte Thérèse. Interieur

Dear David,

Tonight we will attend Christmas Eve mass (Misa del Gallo) at the church of Sainte Thérèse. The architecture
of Auguste Perret and the art of  Valentine Reyre will make this celebration even  more special.

Merry Christmas,
R

1021. Montmagny. L'église.

Dear Karla,

The little church of Sainte Thérèse in Montmagny was
a smaller replica of the well-known Notre-Dame du Raincy
also built a few years earlier by Ausguste Perret.
Perret believed that "Technique, spoken in poetry, brings us
to Architecture".

998. Scheepvaartplein met Muziektent. Hoek van Holland

Queridos Cristina y Alberto,

937. Basel. St. Antoniuskirche mit Pfarrhaus

Dear Gustav,

St. Antonius was built only four years after Auguste Perret's
Notre Dame at Raincy by the founding father of modern
Swiss architecture Karl Moser. This is Moser's most relevant
work and the first exposed concrete church built in Switzerland.

Best regards.
R

874. Altstadter Schule, Celle

Dear Simon,

Back in the twenties the new Functionalist Architecture

embraced all kind of new building types. New types of
schools such as the "pavilion" schools developed by
Ernst May or the "hall" schools proposed by Otto Haesler,
are just some examples of those highly creative times. In

the "hall" school of Celle built in 1927, all the classrooms
and offices are grouped around a covered central area
that serves as gymnasium and assembly hall.

Best.
