2288. Eglise d'Hérémence, Valais-Suisse

Dear Peter,

"Staircases 'hung' in voids, boxed forms featured
deep-set windows and quirky extrusions, while strange
totemic objects rose up in defiance of modernism's
rejection of the eccentric." (Jonathan Bell)

Regards,
R

2285. Eglise d'Hérémence

Dear Peter,

"Förderer's work was superficially hard-edged, but
self-consciously formalist, even decorative and
playful, in its manipulation of space." (Jonathan Bell)

Regards,
R

Dear Carlo,

"Church architecture describes visually the idea
of the sacred which is a fundamental need of man."
(Mario Botta)

Dear Jan,

"The Church of St. Peter, like an immovable rock,
should embody and hold together Catholic church
life." (Bernhard Weis)

Dear Nuria,

"Architecture has its place in the concrete world.
This is where exists. This is where it makes its
statement." (Peter Zumthor)

2020. Forum 3, Novartis Campus, Basel

Dear Peter,

"The façade, designed by Helmut Federle,
transposes the overlay structure characteristic
of his paintings and drawings and introduces
it to the architectural dimension.
Additionally, the color variety calls to mind
the company’s origins in Basel, where it
began with the production of dyes.
In the end, the play between the panes of
colored glass reflects the endless processes
associated with the ongoing research pursued
at this location and forms a relationship with
the diverse, near limitless web of work, creative
energies, and encounters.” (Roger Diener)

Sincerely,
R

2006. Villa Le Lac, Corseaux, Switzerland

Dear Pierre,

"I boarded the Paris-Milan express several times, or
the Orient Express. In my pocket was the plan of a
house. A plan without a site? The plan of a house in
search of a plot of ground? Yes!" (Le Corbusier)

1988. St. Benedict Chapel Graubünden Switzerland

Dear Peter,

"When I start, my first idea for a building is with
the material. I believe architecture is about that.
It's not about paper, it's not about forms. It's about
space and material.” (Peter Zumthor)

Sincerely,
R

Dear Jan,

"The first action of architecture is to put a stone on
the ground. This action transforms a condition of
nature into a condition of culture. It's an action
tha becomes holy."
(Mario Botta)

1903. USEGO, Winterthur, Switzerland

Querido Ramiro,

Moser.

Un abrazo,
R

1878. Monte Carasso, Ticino, Switzerland

Dear Aurelio,

"What's gradually been created in Monte Carasso is a
small town, built out of an assortment of pieces. For
Luigi Snozzi to have had the opportunity to work in the
same area for so many years is something possible only
under very special historical conditions"
(Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra)

Respectfully,
R

Dear Walter,

"Pure, holy simplicity confounds all the wisdom of
this world" (Francis of Assisi)

1652. Haus Duldeck beim Goetheanum Dornach

Dear Peter,

The Duldeck House was the first house designed and
built by Rudolph Steiner. He designed his ideas about
organic architecture from Goethe's theory of metamorphosis.

Dear Charles,

"I am of the opinion that it is possible to develop an art largely on the basis of mathematical thinking" (Max Bill)

1594. Baden, Neues Postgebäude

Dear Michael,

The commercial building for the former PTT (Swiss Federal Post, Telegraph, and Telephone Authority) is a very dogmatist building by Karl Moser and Robert Curjel.  Moser was one of the "fathers of Modernism" and a teacher at the ETH Zurich where he became an important mentor to younger generations of architects.

1452. Langwieser Viadukt. Eisenbahnbrücke, Chur-Arosa.

Dear Peter,

When built the Langwieser viaduct was the largest railway bridge in the world. It is still one of the most famous bridges in Switzerland and a structure of cultural relevance for this country.

Regards,
R

1428. Schiers. Salgina-Brucke

Dear Corey,

This vintage picture postcard features the famous timber
scaffolding for the bridge. Richard Corey, the engineer who
devised it, miraculously survived a 35 meter fall while
surveying the construction site.

Warm regards,
R
