1737. Roosevelt (former Jai Alai) Club, Manila

Dear María Lourdes,

At the vacant lot where today is the controversial
Torre de Manila it used to stand the Roosevelt Club,
former Jai Alai that you may remember have seen or
even visited. This wonderful Streamline Moderne
landmark was sadly demolished in 2000 but it is still
remembered by many.

Warm regards,
R

1342. The Philam Life Building, United Nations Avenue, Manila, The Philippines

Dear Tina,

I heard with sadness that the Philam Life building may be
demolished soon to build a condominium complex that will replace this historic structure. This elegant international-style complex that was built to respond efficiently to the local tropical conditions with its airy facades and gardens includes one of the best performance halls in the entire country and should be definitely saved for future generations.

Best,
R

Dear Tina,

should relate to the outside."( Leandro V. Locsin)

Querido Francisco,

"La arquitectura moderna filipina es el
producto de dos grandes corrientes
culturales: la oriental y la occidental,
que juntas han producido un nuevo
objeto de gran armonía"

1056. Cultural Center of the Philippines

Querido Francisco,

He venido a visitar tu maravilloso país. En Manila he
disfrutado de la sublime monumentalidad del Centro
Cultural.

Cuidate mucho,
R

Dear Corey,

"I am obsessed with forms that are massive and
yet light" (Leandro Locsin)

Leandro Locsin was a remarkable architect, interior designer, and artist and one of the most significant contributors to the development of contemporary architecture in The Philippines.
