Dear Louise,
"My level of French at the time was that of a schoolboy,
moreover, the level of a schoolboy who was always
clowning about at school. The person asked me if I
was Mr. Piano and on my confirmation of this fact,
announced that we were "lauréats". I replied that it
was obvious that we were architecture graduates,
otherwise it was evident that we couldn't practice
this profession. So the poor woman had to repeat to
me for several minutes that we were laureates, until
I finally understood that that meant we had won the
competition." (Renzo Piano)

Dear Lucy,
"Architecture should not be closed on itself, with
its back to the context. It should always be in
resonance with the environment, whether natural

Estimada Eeva,

Dear Michael,
"Les Espaces d'Abraxas" se traduce literalmente
como 'Abraxas's Spaces' y es una referencia al griego
bíblico Abraxas. Esta referencia clásica puede
estar vinculada al estilo arquitectónico posmoderno de
los edificios, que también tiene referencias visuales a
la arquitectura griega y romana antigua."(Tony Schuman)

Dear Renzo,
"Architecture is a living thing. If I
want to leave something to the future,
it has to be able to change, but retain
something of the ethos that we built
up over 50 years." (Richard Rogers)
Sincerely,
R
2025. Le Halles Centrales de Reims
Dear David,
A beautiful contemporary picture postcard of the
impressive Boulingrin Halls interior space. Luckily
the building was saved and beautifully restored in
2012 after many years of decay.

keeping with unwritten conditions of harmony?"

Querido Juan Luis:
Tiempo
El tiempo corre lentamente
vuela immerso en la roca densa
esencia inversa de la luz.
El tiempo camina mirándome
como si yo ya no estuviera
como si nunca hubiera sido.
El tiempo se detiene,
último tiempo.
Jamás.
Un fuerte abrazo.

1973. Chapelle St. Rouin
Dear David,
A vintage postcard of the hermitage of Saint-Rouin
in the Argonne forest still in construction.
Dominican father Rayssiguier, a disciple of Le Corbusier,
was the architect of this little gem, a historic monument
since 1998.
Best regards,
R
