Mushroom House in a Cup

A few weeks ago a friend did a workshop and we made houses and gardens to fit in a cup. Most of the fabric is felt with a little lace and it is adorned with embroidery, beads, sequins and buttons.

Sketchbook 36, the first few pages

I started this book in May [8.5"x 6"], I used stencils for the shapes, they were in a children's book I got from Wilkinson's, a book full of stencils, cheap too.

I bought some Letraset Aquamarkers a couple of months ago and I got some more for a birthday present in May. This shows all the colours I have now. One end of the marker is thick and the other not as thick.
I've still not decided whether I like them or not, they're supposed to work like watercolours but they don't for me. Perhaps I need more practice.
Mixed media- wax crayons, watercolour, found image of tiger, letraset numbers.
I used the aquamarkers for this picture, the flower on the left is a real one.

House and Tree Brooch, Sketchbook Pages

Another brooch - this one is made from textured fabrics, hand made felted tree and machine stitching. Available on Folksy.

The orange part of the book is textured paper.

I cut the shape of the bird from a coloured page in a magazine

The biscuits were in a magazine, I drew on eyes and mouths to make them look like faces.

The figures were shapes roughly cut from a magazine

TAST 20

The stitch this week is Bullion knot stitch and I have just realised I have missed off the word 'knot' on the ribbon tag. The background is screen printed fabric, the house is hand painted/stamped and appliqued [with plastic windows] then hand stitched onto the background. There is also some patterned fabrics, dyed lace, beads and an altered art button [see yesterdays post]. My plan was to stitch the button on with bullion stitch but it was not possible. I've used bullions for the tree, the flowers, the smoke from the chimney and on the ribbon tag.

Another page done for the fabric journal. This is what I have so far, when I hold them together they seem fat enough for a journal, so I am thinking of sewing them up. Or maybe doing a cover and adding two more TAST stitch pages to the inside covers. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Pages from Sketchbooks

This house was created using found shapes.
On the page below I used the colours that had seeped thru from the previous page, then drew on the flowers and thin blue lines.

This doodle also seeped thru to the next page as shown below. It is the promarker pens that seep thru, I think they make some nice effects

I sketched the sea creatures below by copying a photo in a magazine

Home Sweet Home

Three Muses challenge Home, Sweet Home
A few years ago I did a collection of work all to do with houses which I enjoyed very much, so I thought I would revisit some old work and revamp it. I did one, then another, then another and another, guess I got carried away.

The house is made from playing cards, painted and stitched. Own photo background.

Partly drawn with pens and background are found papers like bills, envelopes digitally arranged.

An original artwork, hand drawn houses, altered and altered again. The 'home' is a hand made, painted, stitched house.

The tree house is painted and collaged fabric, stitched. the tree trunks are old nails, I used old bills, magazines atc on the rest of the background, arranged digitally.

Swatch house & tree

The house & tree are inkjet prints on paper. The paper was probably a test print, printed when my printer was misbehaving and I recycled it for this picture. The shapes were cut out & machine stitched.

Experiments with recycled papers and stitching for the Vervey project 'Reworked, Recycled, Revealed'.
