Felt Tree Decorations

First of all I would like to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!. Thank you for visiting my blog over the last year and for any comments you may have left, I do appreciate them and I hope you will visit again soon.

These were made as gifts for friends to hang on their trees. They are all made of felt and some have other fabrics too. All were hand stitched and some have extra embroidery and beads. I got the ideas from Pinterest. My favourite is the caravan.

Mushroom House in a Cup

A few weeks ago a friend did a workshop and we made houses and gardens to fit in a cup. Most of the fabric is felt with a little lace and it is adorned with embroidery, beads, sequins and buttons.

Two Knitted Blankets

I used to machine knit and design patterns many moons ago, which resulted in many test swatches. Well recently I came across a bag of these swatches so I made a couple of blankets with them. I've hand stitched them to fleece blankets which makes them lovely and cosy and hides any loose threads on the back. I think I may have enough swatches to make another but it will be the very last.

Hare Patchwork

Last week my friends and I had a play day with fabric scraps. Helen keeps all her off cuts which have already been backed with bondaweb, which makes it very easy to make patchwork. After ironing in place on a piece of fabric I sewed all around each block with running stitch.

I took the bottom two photos with my tablet, I wanted to compare with the camera photos above.

Crazy Patchwork Bibs

There are a few babies due or recently born in the family so I thought I would make some bibs out of the scrap, mainly vintage fabrics I have. I got the free pattern from nanacompany .

The peach one has already gone to new baby Grace.
I thought I would save this one for my niece, her mother had a dress in the big pink check fabric. Unfortunately the creases would not come out, probably because it has been folded for so many years! Below, my sister wearing the dress.

Textured Landscape Art Quilt

A small A4 art quilt.
I first textured the fabric with Golden course molding paste and cut snippets from a page in a book which were glued along the hill line. It was painted with inktense blocks, apart from the sky. I used bamboo wadding to sandwich between the top and backing fabric. Stitching was applied around the main elements, then further stitching on the nearest meadow and the sky. I was a bit worried about the sewing machine stitching through the texture so more stitching was applied by hand on the hills. The binding was also textured and painted.
