Hand Printed Fabric

I printed more fabric and this time I used my old roller stamps (tutorial for roller stamps) to make the marks.
It was on plain white cotton and coloured with liquitex inks mixed with fabric medium. I rinsed them out and the colours stayed in but the fabric is very stiff.
On the yellow sample piece one end is motley, this is because I tried something else at that end for the background colour (Adirondack colour wash) [which I sprayed on last] but it came out really orangey which I didn't like so I tried rinsing it out.

I started embroidery stitching on the blue fabric, but I'm not sure how much I will do as it's so stiff and makes my fingers sore.

Gelli Printing

I decided to spend some time doing gelli prints to try and get myself motivated. I want to do something with embroidery on it but I'm not sure what.

All the above are printed on fabric and the ones below on paper.

Non of them inspire me.

Hand printed leaves on fabric, chiffon layers, embroidery and beads.
The stitches on the left include variations of beaded buttonhole stitch (tast 118), beaded feathered chain stitch (tast 113), beaded fly stitch, running stitch.....the one that looks like a caterpillar is beaded vandyke stitch (tast 116).
On the right is beaded fly stitch and feather stitch to which I applied the beads afterwards.
If you want to learn to embroider or learn some new stitches join in the tast challenge.

Print and Embroidery [Tast 112]

A few weeks ago at Gill's we had a printing play day. I printed the above on fabric with a mixture of manutex and brusho powders and I used a dry leaf to make the marks.
I've layered sheer fabrics on some of it then stitched it. One of the stitches I used was feathered chain stitch [Take a stitch Tuesday 112] and the rest are running stitches.

Recycled Printed Wipes

The other day I spent some time experimenting with some recycled face wipes I'd been saving. After washing them I put them in a bath of tea, but they just looked a bit drab so I thought I would print on them. I used some old screen printing paints, some heavy bodied A>2 chroma acrylics, and ordinary acrylics. The pattern was made on the top four by laying the wipe on a wallpaper texture plate. [textured wallpaper stuck to a thick card/wood base]. If it didn't look to good I went over it with another colour.

The leaf designs below were made with a shop bought plastic texture plate.

and the squiggles too

the bottom two - the lines were made using corrugated card then a flower stamp on top. The wavy lines below - this was a hand made stamp from fun foam stuck to polystyrene.

Now what shall I do with them?

TAST 18 and Molly Drawing

This weeks stitch is 'crossed buttonhole'. I've just realised, looking at the photo that I didn't finish off a row of stitching at the top. The background was a piece of fabric I had printed on the gel printing plate, then painted - but it is the wrong side as I preferred it, the colour was too strong on the right side. There is also dyed and transfer printed laces, beads, sequins. The rosette is an upcycled item I made on another project, I just added the beads and French knots around the middle for this journal page. I don't think I have done this stitch before and I will confess that to start with I was getting in a muddle, but once I sorted it/me out I think it is an easy stitch to do. Click on the image to enlarge.
I like a photo I had taken of Molly so I thought I would do a drawing of it.

Fabric Printing Workshop & Sketchbook Challenge

I got together with some friends for a fabric printing session. I used water soluble pencils and crayons, chalk pastels and emulsion paint, some marks were drawn freehand, some with a handmade stencil and some using texture plates.

To fix onto the fabric we used screen print binder applied using a screen print screen and squeegee, then iron fixed and rinsed. You can see what happens if the binder is not applied properly [below]

The printing was inspired by watching the dvd of Kerr Grabowski [deconstructed screen printing]

I've been sewing!!, I shall show you the results tomorrow [if I get the photos done]

I've done another couple of drawings for the Sketchbook Challenge - Everyday Items
