It has been a while since I did something for the 'Take a Word' challenge, but I couldn't resist the word for next week - PINK. A few years ago I went through a spell of really not liking the colour much at all, but I'm back to liking it again. The flowers were drawn on a tablet and I used some of my art for the background.

I recently completed a whole mixed media book in pink and if you missed it the whole book can be seen here.

Pink Book [part 5]

Layered textured papers, glitter, dyed lace, handmade fabric flowers, machine embroidery.

Fabric page - voile pink flowers, flowers made with lace trim with a gem under net in the centres and beads around the centre, raised stitched stems, distressed area with pulled threads and stitched net in the hole

Painted, stamped wallpaper, ribbon, dyed fabric flowers and lace, 2 heart gems, plastic hand.

layered textured papers encrusted with honesty seed pod and metallic threads, fabric ATC - patchwork, embroidery, beads, lace.

Smocking - too neat to be hand stitched? Actually it was from a dress, I cut the top off which was the smocked area to make a skirt.

The back cover - the flowery is vintage fabric, the other is some fabric I transfer printed years ago. he type that you paint on paper and transfer to fabric with heat. The white 'polo' areas were made by putting paper reinforcement rings to act as a kind of resist, the blue and green areas were sticky labels painted with transfer paint. And that is the end of the pink book. What colour next?

This rhododendron below is very unusual, why you may ask? I have had this shrub in my garden for 30 years and this is only the second time I have seen a flower on it. And I mean a flower, just the one both times.

Pink Book [part 4]

The background paper is painted and glittered. The fabric on top is all hand stitched and beaded.

Pink Book [part 3]

I've just noticed that there are 4 pages [8 sides] that are not stitched around the edges, these are just stuck together so I will probably take the book apart to stitch them. I guess it is a good job I didn't do a book binding technique as the pages would have to stay like they are but taking a book like this apart is very straight forward.

This one is a fabric page, the art was done on the fabric, dyed laces, the little fabric hearts and beads.

TAW - Floral

It is a while since I joined in the Take a Word challenge, this week the challenge is Floral and I am hoping the summery flowers will make this miserable dull cold day a bit better. [what happened to flaming June?] 

I was rummaging through my picture folders the other day and came across these two creations which I had forgotten about which I did a while ago. [Jan 2011]

The backgrounds were originally pages from one of my sketchbooks which I had altered digitally and my flower photos which I also altered a bit.

TAST 18 and Molly Drawing

Take a Stitch Tuesday

This weeks stitch is 'crossed buttonhole'. I've just realised, looking at the photo that I didn't finish off a row of stitching at the top. The background was a piece of fabric I had printed on the gel printing plate, then painted - but it is the wrong side as I preferred it, the colour was too strong on the right side. There is also dyed and transfer printed laces, beads, sequins. The rosette is an upcycled item I made on another project, I just added the beads and French knots around the middle for this journal page. I don't think I have done this stitch before and I will confess that to start with I was getting in a muddle, but once I sorted it/me out I think it is an easy stitch to do. Rainbow Collages

The challenge this week at Take a Word is green so I thought I would show my green collage. 

I have done a series of collages using the colours of the rainbow- blue, green, red, orange, yellow, violet, indigo plus an extra pink one.

These are small collages, just 4"x4" and are made from art work, painted papers, found papers, printed art work etc

Embroidered Mono Prints

These little canvas's [5x7 inches] have been mono-printed with

acrylic paints quite thickly for texture. I then hand embroidered them with cretan stitch and fern stitch. The beads and sequins were put on last.
