TAST 33

Take a stitch Tuesday - the stitch this week is Pekinese stitch which is a fairly simple stitch. You start with back stitch, then thread through the stitches with another thread.
The stitch is not new to me but I decided to work the stitch on some crazy quilting which is a first for me.  I have come across some really lovely examples of crazy quilting while checking out other peoples TAST samples which inspired me to try it.
It is only a small ATC and I used vintage fabrics to make it. I would try CQ again and hope to improve, having said that, my embroidery does not seem to get any neater the more I do [lol].

TAST 20

The stitch this week is Bullion knot stitch and I have just realised I have missed off the word 'knot' on the ribbon tag. The background is screen printed fabric, the house is hand painted/stamped and appliqued [with plastic windows] then hand stitched onto the background. There is also some patterned fabrics, dyed lace, beads and an altered art button [see yesterdays post]. My plan was to stitch the button on with bullion stitch but it was not possible. I've used bullions for the tree, the flowers, the smoke from the chimney and on the ribbon tag.

Another page done for the fabric journal. This is what I have so far, when I hold them together they seem fat enough for a journal, so I am thinking of sewing them up. Or maybe doing a cover and adding two more TAST stitch pages to the inside covers. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

TAST 16 and Orange Bird

Take a Stitch Tuesday - the stitch this week is French Knots. I like this stitch and I use it a lot in my embroidery. On my fabric journal page I also have running stitch, feather stitch and blanket stitch. The base is a patterned upholstery fabric and on this is transfer printed lace [2 pieces], a small square of digitally printed fabric [my design] and a flower which was machine stitched and adorned with beads and French Knots. If you would like to see more of my embroidery look here

I made this little felt bird last week, both sides are embroidered but differently.

TAST 9

Another page for my fabric journal. The stitch this week is couching and I have couched threads down with ribbon yarn and couched ribbon yarn darn with threads. I have used the regular style of couching around the rectangular piece of painted paper and the green ribbon. I have also couched ribbon yarn down with herringbone stitch and feather stitch. To hold the upcycled metal ring in place I have used detached chain stitch and buttonhole stitch. The background fabric was painted.

TAST 8 and Vintage Threads

Take a Stitch Tuesday - this week we are doing chain stitch. It is a simple stitch so this time I have kept the page for my fabric journal fairly simple. There is a piece of vintage fabric, some painted paper, dyed lace and a needle felted flower. This page was attached to another page with blanket stitch.
Below are some vintage threads that I bought at an Embroiderers Guild meeting, I love the cards that the thread is wrapped around.

Altered T-Shirt

I altered a plain t-shirt the other week. I used vintage patterned fabrics to make flower shapes. I would normally use bondaweb to stick the shapes to the t-shirt but I didn't have any so I used fabric glue instead.  I hand stitched it in place, running stitches around the petals and blanket stitch around the middle of them. I have washed it since and the edges have frayed slightly but I think it has improved it.
