Top 10 List

Toni over at Tragic Chain Reaction wrote a post that got me thinking and I decided I should share it here.  She has been discussing those movies that you just can't go past when channel flicking late at night.  You know that time when your show has finished and you do one last run through the channels before you turn in for the night.  What movies, when you come across them, make you just have to sit back down and watch to the end?

Here's a list of mine.... in no particular order....

1. Dirty Dancing.  Bet that one hasn't shocked you.  Watching Baby and Johnny fall in love gets me every time.

2. Footloose.  The soundtrack alone would do it but add Kevin teaching Chris to dance and there's no turning it off.

3.  Big Wednesday - Ahhhh!  surfer boys and Jan Michael Vincent.....

4.  Grease /Grease 2 - The songs, the cheese, it's impossible not to watch these even if you have watched them waaay too many times to count.

5. High School Musical - this movie just makes me happy!  And I refuse to make excuses for that.

6.  Sweet Home Alabama - absolute chick flick heaven.

7.  Step Up. - this is the movie that introduced me to The Chan and as you can tell from the previous movies on this list I am a sucker for a musical or dance movie.  This is a modern classic.

8. Gidget - kowabunga! I used to know this movie word perfectly.  It would be sacrilegious to turn it off.

9. P.S. I Love You - I tried to turn this movie off just recently and discovered that I can't do it.  Even if I'm not in the mood to bawl my eyes out I still get sucked in by the soundtrack (and Gerard Butler helps too.)

10.  Oklahoma - this is the first musical I fell in love with and it does not matter how many times I see it I can always squeeze in another viewing.

There you have it.  I'm sure there are dozens more (every movie Zac has made) I'd love to know which movies you just can't go past.

Rememberance Day = Hot Soldiers

On the 11/11 it was Rememberance Day here in Australia - at 11.00am we observe a minute's silence to honour those that have fallen in defence of our country and for those who are still involved in combat throughout the world.

Enjoy.

Time For A Top 10 List!

TOP 10 TEEN HIGH SCHOOL MOVIES
(The purely daggy kind - no Dead Poets here please)

1. 10 Things I Hate About You
Way to make Shakespeare cool - have Heath Ledger play Patrick Verona and assemble an equally good cast around him - Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Alison Janey.
Following on the heels on 'Clueless', 10 Things showed how good teen movies could be. And did I mention Heath's in it!!!

1. Bring It On
They're sexy, they're cute, they're popular to boot! Kirsten Dunst plays Torrance, the bright-eyed cheerleading captain who must save her high school's squad from a major cheeragedy: going down as the team who stole routines. In the end, we learn there's more to cheerleading than loads of hairspray, teeny halter tops, and back-stabbing: These are athletes who know how to really bring it.

3. She's All That
Any movie where the lead characters are called 'Laney Bloggs' and 'Zac Syler' just has to be good. Another Shakespeare rip off - this one tells the typical ugly duckling story and does it with great joy (and some very good dance sequences).

4. Drive Me Crazy
Sabrina the teenage witch traded in her magic to join Vinnie Chase in this underrated teen drama. In another make-over story, Melissa Joan Hart stars as a peppy preppy who performs the ultimate makeover on her scruffy next-door neighbor Adrian Grenier and discovers this former 'frog' was a really nice prince all along! Awww!

5. Valley Girl
A movie very dear to my heart, this movie is a little treasure, a funny, sexy, appealing story of a Valley Girl's heartbreaking decision: Should she stick with her boring jock boyfriend, or take a chance on a punk from Hollywood? Be warned though, the 'Valley speak' takes a while to understand and I still have to rewind the first scene to get what they're saying.

6. Grease
I don't think anything really needs to be said about this movie - if you haven't seen it then shame on you, and if you have then you'll know why it's on this list.

7. Grease 2
This one on the other hand may need a little explaining! Often seen as the poor cousin of it's predecessor, Grease 2's genius is in its ultimate dagginess. The reversal of the story in Grease, Stephanie is the cool 'Pink Lady' looking for a 'Cool rider' while Michael is a dork of the first order desperate to win her heart. There's singing, dancing, motorbikes, pink ladies and even FRENCHIE pops in for a visit. This movie is absolute gold!

8. 17 Again

Obviously this movie holds great attraction due to its leading man but don't for a minute think that is all there is to it. This movie is funny and touching and well acted by all involved. The surprise was Thomas Lennon playing Mike's best mate, Ned Gold - Zac and Ned's scenes are some of the highlights of the film. Oh and Zac is HOT!

9. H.S.M series
Like its inspiration, Grease, not much needs to be said here. I'm sure we're all aware of the phenomenon that is HSM. What you may not know is they are actually really fun movies and well worth a watch if you're the only person on earth who hasn't done so already. Oh and Zac is HOT!

10. Say Anything
Hoist that boom box above your head and turn up ''In Your Eyes.'' Stand motionless with a fixed expression of unrequited but determined love. And watch Cameron Crowe's ode to young passion, which made John Cusack the thinking teen's heartthrob and should have done the same for Ione Skye. It's set at the end of High School but I just had to sneak John Cusack into the Top 10 or it just wouldn't be complete.

What's in your Top 10?
