We Miss Gilmore Girls - So Bunheads Will Do

Your Stars Hollow team adores a certain Ms Amy Sherman-Palladino, the brains and voice behind the always fabulous 'Gilmore Girls'  ( aka - best show in the world)  Her next show, Bunheads, centers on a former Vegas showgirl who , after impulsively getting married, moves to a small coastal town and works at her mother-in-law's dance school. We also happen to be fans of anything dance-related (think Step Up, Centre Stage, even Honey!) and Amy herself spent 20 years as a dancer which bodes well for the accuracy of the series.

We have been bitterly disappointed in the past - we got all excited about an AS-P project that starred the yummy Sean Farris - The Wyoming Project - but this never saw the light of day.  The Return Of Jezebel James also showed promise but fizzled after only 3 episodes.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for Bunheads.  It will star Broadway favourite Sutton Foster as the Las Vegas showgirl and It was just announced that Kelly Bishop, who portrayed Emily Gilmore in Gilmore Girls, will play the recurring role of Fanny, her mother-in-law

Bunheads will screen in the US in June 2012

The Ultimate Gilmore Girls Movie Night

I have just stumbled across the most amazing blog - I think I've found someone who is even more committed to the Gilmore Girls than we are!  Courtney decided to take a page out of Julie Powell’s book (Julia and Julai) and blog about a specific task.  Being an avid Gilmore fan she decided  to watch every movie mentioned in the show…and blog a review - how cool is that.

To give you an idea of how immense this task is, she's compiled a list of all the movies referenced in just season 1…It’s 59. This is just the first of seven seasons.
And in case you're wondering - here are the movies that are mentioned JUST IN SEASON 1....
Rosemary’s Baby
Mommie Dearest
Schindler’s List
The Shining
Flashdance
The Sixth Sense
The Fly
Freaky Friday
The Crucible
9 1/2 Weeks
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Ice Castles
The Way We Were
Boogie Nights
Magnolia
The House on Haunted Hill
Midnight Express
16 Candles
The Outsiders
Double Indemnity
The Miracle Worker
The Wizard of Oz
Psycho
The Omen
The Odd Couple
Heathers
Mask
Beethoven
King Kong
The Great Santini
Carrie
A Streetcar Named Desire
2001: A Space Odyssey
You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown
Citizen Kane
Gone With The Wind
Lady and the Tramp
Misery
Bambi
Christine
Love Story
The Champ
An Affair to Remember
Ishtar
Old Yeller
Footloose
G.I. Jane
Grease
Cabaret
Gaslight
The Lost Weekend
Queen of Outer Space
Saving Private Ryan
Out of Africa
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
The Amityville Horror
The Matrix

Phew.... what a mamoth task.  Drop over to her blog to see how she's getting on.
Cool Rider (by the way how many of these have you seen?  I'm at 31)

I Miss Logan Huntzberger....

Well technically, I miss everyone that ever graced the screen in GILMORE GIRLS, but tonight , Logan, as I have just watched a film in which he starred, I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER IN HELL.

April Nardini

I doubt I would have recognised her if I hadn't seen her name.  Vanessa Marano played April Nardini, Luke Danes' daughter on the last seasons of Gilmore Girls and by the looks of it she is pretty much all grown up. Vanessa stars in 'Switched At Birth' which has had a really positive response to it's first episodes.  She also turned up in season 2 of Parenthood - reuniting with Lauren Graham for a couple of episodes.
I have to confess that I absolutely detested her character in G.G. which unfortunately doesn't make me want to rush to see her new show.

Gilmore Moment

There is nothing better than a good Gilmore Girls rant - especially when Luke is on the rampage.  Being a closet sci-fi dork, this scene always makes me giggle - Luke is sooo pissed off at the inaccuracies of the Star Wars script.  Classic G.G.

It's So Sad When They End

While I'm consumed by series finales I thought I'd hark back to our all time favourite for a moment.  I just read a very interesting take on Gilmore Girls final season which I thought was interesting...

“One show that flubbed its ending in almost every important way, in my view, is ‘Gilmore Girls.’ The show’s creator left before the final season of ‘GG’ and the new person brought in to mop up during that last year just didn’t have a good feel for the characters or their world, and after spending six seasons with the people of Star’s Hollow, the final season was a trainwreck on a character level. A fairly decent series finale wasn’t enough to remove the bad taste that the rest of that unfortunate season had left. Very little of what transpired was true to the vision I’d watched for the first six years of the show.”  George R.R. Martin, author of the Game of Thrones

I can't say he is entirely wrong as much as I hate saying anything negative about my beloved GG, but I think all GGs die hard fans wonder what would have transpired in season 7 if Amy Sherman-Palladino hadn't left.

The Trifecta

It doesn't get much better than this for me - 3 of my absolute favourite TV ladies in the one photo.  Not only that but they represent 3 of the best TV shows ever made!  If Sophia Bush had turned up life would just about be perfect.
This gem stars Alexis Bledel (Rory - Gilmore Girls), Kristen Bell (Veronica - Veronica Mars), and Erica Durance (Lois - Smallville)

Gilmore Girls Reunion

Considering our blog is named in honour of Gilmore Girls you can imagine how excited we were to discover that, three years after the show ended, Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) and Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) have sat down for a NEW photoshoot and interview with Entertainment Weekly for their Reunions Issue.
They're still as gorgeous as ever and the video interview is classic Gilmore Girls.
God I miss them.

We Still Miss You - 3 Years On

10 years ago this week, Lorelai walked into a diner and walked up to a counter to beg Luke for coffee. Witty banter ensued about Lorelai being a coffee junkie. And so began a 7-year love affair (for us) with a show called Gilmore Girls.

Oh Zack

Spotted today at the Tim Burton exhibition in Melbourne was Todd Lowe. He's here on True Blood business, but to us he'll always be Zack Van Gerbig, the love of Lane's life!!!

Lorelai: I just ate an apple.
Rory: Uh oh.
Lorelai: Yeah. And I liked it.
Rory: Whoa!
