Lemons, Bluebirds and Butterfly

Doodlewash

Day 20 - Lemons

Day 18 - Bluebirds. We don't have bluebirds in the UK unfortunately, so I've done two versions of birds that are blue.

Small Animal Paintings

I've done nothing new this week as I've been away in Rhodes so I'm posting these paintings from my little 4 inch square sketchbook

I've just got back in time for Paint Party Friday

Zebra and other cuts

These are pages from a sketchbook I keep for my experiments with my cutting machine.
The zebra was cut from. black card on a painted background.

I used the apple cut as a stencil [not the neatest painting]

The butterfly is yellow card on a painted background.
The following I cut and used as stencils, some from card [cereal boxes] some from plastic [folders].

Pink card cut outs.
The green bricks are part of stencil - I stopped the machine half way through as the plastic wasn't fully secure.

Coaster, Gelli Prints, Drawings, Flowers

I had my first attempt at foundation paper piecing, a coaster made from some leftover scraps.
I had read that everyone makes mistakes when they first try this but I thought I would be careful. They were right, I made mistakes.

Some gelli plate printing. I did do more than these two sheets but these were best of the bunch. I've been cutting up and collaging in a little book which I'll show at a later date.

Practicing drawing bugs with ink pens in a handmade sketchbook

We've a lot of these popping up in the garden at the moment, they must be spreading because I've not planted that many. It's nice to see a bit of colour in the garden.

Butterflowers and WIP

I drew the flowers and butterfly on fabric with a pen, painted them, cut them out and stuck them to a re purposed  hankie. Then I enhanced with running stitches - thread not drawn on.
I think this one looks better in real life.
I'm working on a bigger piece, bet you can tell what it is.

Patterned Butterfly

Another drawing completed on my tablet, I used the mirror tool in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro for the butterfly but not the background.

Butterflies and Rhododendron

This butterfly found it's way into the conservatory yesterday, doesn't it have lovely markings. I managed to get it out in one piece I'm pleased to say.
A butterfly I did a few weeks ago.
This rhododendron has been in my garden almost from when we moved in and that is about 30 years. In that time I have only ever seen two flowers, and not in the same year. As you can see there are over 30 flowers this year! Amazing.

Butterfly Rose

A butterfly I saw on a hanging basket the other day.

And a dying rose, I've got a thing about dying roses

Mail Art

I started with a vintage envelope above and just layered with a vintage image from the Naturalist Library of entomology. It was nice to start with, so I didn't want to overdo it with too much decoration.
Below is a vintage postcard and I've layered with lace and handmade art buttons.
