Black Eyed Susan - Flower of the Day

Digital - Tablet Doodles - I did these quite a while ago but They've been sitting on my computer waiting for me to do something with them, not necessarily together but I decided to combine them digitally then I can get rid of them. I've altered the colour of the 'flower'.

I was messing about with watercolour and a small bottle of perfume that I didn't like to see if it reacted any differently than water - it didn't seem too, but the paper stunk for ages.
I didn't like what I produced, looks like fried eggs on something and not at all appealing.
So I thought I would see what I could do with it in Photoshop

Notepaper filter and the rest are various neural filters. They all still look like eggs!

This one I made into a repeating pattern

We had the Grandkids staying for a couple of days so I got out the old poster paints. They'd not been used for many a year, some were a little dry but most were usable.

I painted a rose

And four year old Joanie painted a sunflower

We were away for the weekend, my brother i law and wife were celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary and had a BBQ. They also did a paella, it was so pretty [and tasty] I thought I would show you it.

Angel of the North facts taken from Gateshead gov web site

Amazing facts about the Angel of the North.

  • It is believed to be the largest angel sculpture in the world
  • It is one of the most famous artworks in the region - almost two thirds of people in the North East had already heard of the Angel of the North before it was built
  • Its 54 metre (175 foot) wingspan is bigger than a Boeing 757 or 767 jet and almost the same as a Jumbo jet
  • It is 20 metres (65 feet) high - the height of a five storey building or four double decker buses
  • It weighs 200 tonnes - the body 100 tonnes and the wings 50 tonnes each
  • There is enough steel in it to make 16 double decker buses or four Chieftain tanks
  • It will last for more than 100 years
  • It will withstand winds of more than 100 miles per hour
  • Below the sculpture, massive concrete piles 20 metres deep will anchor it to the solid rock beneath
  • It is made of weather resistant Cor-ten steel, containing a small amount of copper, which forms a patina on the surface that mellows with age
  • Huge sections of the Angel - up to six metres wide and 25 metres long - were transported to the site by lorry with a police escort
  • The total cost of The Angel of the North was £800,000.

SR - New Year Challenge

I've joined in with the Sketchbook Revival Happy New Year Challenge - 5 Days

Day 2 - Rabbit and Flowers / Watercolour
Day 1 - Rounded Shape /Ink
We were given a shape to use with I copied and then did it digitally and quickly because I didn't have much time

Day 3 - Curvy Shape /Ink
I painted it with watercolours before I remembered that it was an ink challenge so I drew over the lines with ink using a bamboo pen. My original outline was drawn with a liner pen.

This is the shape we were to use.

The bamboo pen and bottle of ink.

Slow Loris

The slow loris is on the endangered species list. This is due to a combination of habitat loss and from hunting. Some people like to keep them as pets for which they are not suitable.

Sun Bears

This is another animal on the endangered list

Pen and watercolour

This was the first painting I attempted of the sun bear. I used bamboo pens and inks. I didn't like the outcome so I had another go at the same picture but with watercolours and pen. Still not great so I did the one at the top. Guess I need some more practice with sun bears.

These are the bamboo pens and inks I used.

A little bit of information about the sun bear. They are one of the most endangered species in the world due to habitat destruction, poaching for sun bear bile [used in traditional medicine] and because of over exploitation for their body parts which are used in ceremonial dances. They are found in Indonesia and other South East Asian countries.
Bear Bile Farming - moon bears, sun bears and brown bears are kept in tiny cages also known as crush cages, sometimes so small that the bears cannot turn around or stand up. Some exist in the cages their whole lives. Bear bile is collected by invasive extraction methods resulting in many infections. Most farmed bears are starved and dehydrated as this can encourage bile production. What they do to these bears is evil and heart breaking and totally unnecessary.

Wolf

I used one of my older paintings to make a repeat pattern for fabric or paper.

I'll put it on Spoonflower one day.

Musk Deer

pen, inktense pencils, water and oil pastels

Musk Deer are on the endangered list. They are often killed by hunters to obtain the musk which is used in perfumes and medicines. Hunting and habitat destruction endanger the present day survival of all musk deer species. The Siberian musk deer is the most threatened.

Altered Book

I've altered a few more pages in my Pissarro art book. Some of my art added to the pages was from a book that I did Doodlewash sketches in, the book fell apart so I thought I would select some images to alter more pages in this book.

I could see a landscape in this gelliprint so I outlined some parts with pen.
