Mixed Media and Rice

Mixed media pages from an Illustration course.
It's an ugly fish partly submerged under gravel in case you were wondering.
Pen, watercolour, oil pastels, Neocolor water soluble crayons.
I'll also use this for a fish prompt for Doodlewash.

Felt tip, metallic oil pastels, oil pastels.

Pen, watercolour, oil pastels

Pencil, oil pastel, watercolour

Collage

Metallic watercolour, soluble pencils, oil pastels

Upcycling
I asked my daughter if she wanted some out of date rice for the kids for crafts, she didn't so I said I'll see what I could do with it.
I used pudding rice, some old cord and a scrap piece of wood. I glued the pieces on then painted with acrylics. I guess the type of glue and paints aren't suitable for small children.

I've been working on a postcard for the Twitter Art Exhibit. Postcards are sent in from all over the world which are sold and the money raised goes to a good cause. This year it is to benefit the Encephalitis Society.
I did several postcards but didn't like them enough but I've decided on the hare as the painting on that came out the best. I did a little 4"x4"version for a Doodlewash prompt earlier this month.

I painted this version on Bristol board, the painting didn't look good so I did another version on watercolour paper, the painting was still not right. I also did a cat but didn't like it's nose.

Friday Catch Up 4Feb22

Another exercise for the illustration course I am doing. We had to choose an artwork then do lots of versions of it, starting similar and them altering it in someway and using different media. I chose a self portrait by Frida Khalo painted in 1940. The original version by Frida is shown at the end.

Thin acrylic applied with a dip pen

Sketching sticks [similar to charcoal only fatter]
