Embroidery - Dancing Cranes

Cranes is no longer a WIP, it's finished! I wrote about starting this in June.
I was going to embroider all of it but my stitching is not as neat as it used to be and the densely stitched areas were not looking good so I decided to paint the large areas of black with Inktense Blocks.
It is different to my usual work which tends to be very busy and one thing I don't like is that you can't hide your mistakes. [I'm not saying I made any LOL]. I did wonder if I should have painted the background but it's grown on me and I like it as it is.
I used black and a little red coton-a-broder thread on white cotton, mainly using back stitch. When finished the fabric was wrapped around a canvas frame. Size 24x24" / 60x60cm

Tiger Applique and Embroidery

I started this tiger last year, October I think and finished it in January but I've only just got round to sorting the photos [which were also taken in January] The tiger is now hanging on a wall but I'm thinking it may look better in a glass-less frame.

I started with layers of different patterned fabrics applied to a background fabric with Heat n' Bond. The black fabric [arranged so a lot of it is joined] was partly cut on my Zing but I ended up cutting some of it by hand. [I thought it was the machines fault at the time but it was user error], which was machine stitched on top of the patterned fabrics.
I then applied hand embroidery, running stitches, all over the patterned fabric.

This is a photo before the embroidery was applied.

I painted canvas fabric with acrylic paints, then enhanced the painting with freehand machine embroidery. [the black thin lines]

Frog Applique

I used one of my handmade stamps for the frog, on fabric then painted over as well. I left the green patterned fabric crumpled for a more textured affect. Freehand machine stitched.

Another Rabbit Applique

I used another one of my stamps for the rabbit, stamped on fabric then over painted. The fabric below the rabbit is striped but it doesn't show up on my screen. Bits of fabric doilies are used for flowers. All hand stitched.

Leather Rabbit Family

Another picture I recently finished. I painted the background on canvas fabric then embellished with machine embroidery. The rabbits were made from faux leather with black patches also in faux leather which were appliqued onto the fabric. The eyes were drawn on with pens. The fabric was wrapped around a canvas frame.

TAST 35 Embroidery

Take a stitch Tuesday - sheaf stitch
I've made another little patchwork ATC for this stitch and used some vintage and some newer fabrics, dyed lace and beads.

Sheaf stitch was used on part of a bigger ongoing picture below. The stitches were done irregularly so they look like flower heads ... well if you use your imagination a little [lol]

It's all L

This is another picture from the 'Layers' collection and so guess what - it is made up of layers. The background fabric has been screen printed with my own design using a thermofax screen. The labrynth is painted fabric which I cut out & moved to applique onto the background - big mistake, it ended up in a crumpled heap & took ages to unravel. The tree, leaves & bird are also painted fabric. The lace, lamp and letter are inkjet prints on lutradur, the lace & lamp were made 'holey' with a soldering iron. These items were appliqued onto the background. Freehand machine embroidery was used for the other items. Wrapped around a canvas frame 61x61cm. It is called 'It's all L' because there are 28 items beginning with the letter L. Can you find them all?

Fish & Seaweed

Another picture in the Arc exhibition [see Thurs 12th]. This one has a top layer of transfer printed fabric [paper was painted and then was transferred onto fabric with a heat press]. Under the semi transparent fabric is a painted fish which has been hand embroidered and has threads hanging from its tail [but trapped under the top layer]. The seaweed was painted on the canvas and also hand stitched on the top layer with added beads and sequins. The fabric is wrapped around a canvas frame.
