Patterns and Motifs

These are my version of drawings found in The Encyclopedia of Patterns and Motifs - these being Peruvian textiles. And these are some with various alterations.
I drew a picture of an onion being chopped and a watery eye for an illustration Friday contest, the word strong I think, but I didn't like it so I didn't enter it. I've since done a paint job on the top. I used a hand made stamp to make marks and painted over when dry. I used brusho inks and it could be used as a background page now.

Plain or Fancy?

I made the stamp out of a used foam nail buffer block, then added colour with brusho and posca pens.

Do you prefer the plain version or the colourful one?

Three pages from my sketchbook

Brusho inks. The strips of striped paper - this was paper I used to protect the next page in my sketchbook for quite a few pages, hence all the colours. The flowers are real.

Brusho and a small doyley.

Envelopes made from recycled envelopes, the envelopes have envelopes as decoration.
These are the last pages of book 36.

Mediterranean Bells

The flowers are called Nectaroscordum Siculum (clever eh? remembering that! actually I can't even say it never mind remember it) or Mediterranean Bells although the colours are not really quite as bright as that on the real flowers. If you look closely at the scraps of collaged paper you will notice the pattern is made up of tiny little envelopes, this is the inside of a recycled envelope.
I also used Brusho inks, liner pen, labels and inktense pencils.

Three Pages from a Sketchbook

The insect is made from a recycled envelope

I don't like the collage with the leaves, I did make the
leaves with a fancy envelope but the colouring in covered the pattern too much. But the round decorative circles at the side are cute. They are some cheap little stamps bought from China via ebay.

Bird Collage

Stamped background [bubble wrap], recycled envelope bird, postage stamp excess, brusho inks, aquamarkers, pearl ex powdered pigments. It has a metallic shimmer to the background which you can't really see on the photo.

Pages from my Sketchbook [Historically Inspired]

This tree illustration was based on an early medieval design, a stylised tree from a manuscript.

The face was taken from a motif on Anglo Saxon metalwork. The hair and beard is my addition, makes it look like a lion.

The bird shapes are from an early manuscript.

Cat

I used a hand made stamp [made from a old nail buffer block] on the background.
Pen liner, aquamarkers and brusho.
