"My Beatles Hell", Lew Baxter, prefácio de Pete Best, Cities500, 2004, 224 págs

Beryl Adams era a secretária de Brian Epstein no tempo dos Beatles. Foi casada e/ou amante de Bob Wooler, Ray Coleman, Allan Williams.

Não gostava de John Lennon e era fã de Pete Best.

Morreu em 2003 com a doença das vacas loucas.

PETE BEST: INÍCIO DA RECUPERAÇÃO

Foi com este livro que Pete Best iniciou o seu processo de recuperação social, após a sua substituição nos Beatles por Ringo Starr em 1962.

Em1988, já conseguia conviver, pela primeira vez, com os fãs dos Beatles, reunidos na habitual convenção anual em Liverpool.

Este livro foi-me autografado pelo próprio no dia 27 de Agosto de 1988, no Casbah Club, que era de sua mãe, em Liverpool.

UNCUT ELEGE FLEET FOXES

A revista britânica Uncut escolheu pela primeira vez os seus prémios de música - UNCUT Music Awards - tendo a honra do primeiro prémio sido atribuído aos norte-americanos Fleet Foxes com o seu álbum de estreia "Fleet Foxes", também chamado.

Os Fleet Foxes são uma das meninas de olhos lindos deste blogue, mormente por pressão, saudavelmente aceite, do Filhote.

O segundo lugar foi para os também simpáticos Vampire Weekend ("Vampire Weekend") e o terceiro para os idosos Radiohead ("In Rainbows").

Na shortlist da revista constavam ainda "For Emma" (Bon Iver), "Brighter Than Creation's Dark" (Drive-By Truckers), "The Seldom Seen Kid" (Elbow), "The Felice Brothers" (Felice Brothers) e "Consolers Of The Lonely" (Raconteurs).

A banda é constituída por Pete Best (bateria), Roag Best (bateria percussão), Phil Melia (voz, guitarras, harmónica), Paul Parry (voz, guitarras, piano, teclas) e Tony Flynn (voz, guitarras).

Trata-se de um álbum bem interessante, tipo Beatles meets Who meets Traveling Wilburys meets Electric Light Orchestra.

Deve ser o melhor álbum do antecessor de Ringo nos Beatles e - parece-me - é o seu primeiro como autor ou co-autor.

É o 5º CD de Pete Best, depois de "Back To The Beat" (Pebe-Splash Records, 1995), "Beyond The Beatles 1964-1966" (Cherry Records, 1996), "Once A Beatles, Always..." (Pebe-Splash Records, 1996) e "Casbah Coffee Club, Birthplace Of The Beatles 29 08 59" (Pebe-Splash Records, 1999).

Dois anos depois de ter sido despedido dos Beatles, Pete Best ainda editou "Im Gonna Knock On Your Door" (1964), mas sem grande sucesso, após o que se juntou, nos Estados Unidos, aos compositores Wayne Bickerton e Tony Waddington (Rubettes).

Nos anos 90 ganhou uma fortuna com a "Antologia", dos Beatles.

PETE BEST COMBO

Quando foi despedido dos Beatles em Agosto de 1962 depois de se ter recusado a alinhar na inventiva estética que os outros três estavam a criar, Pete Best ainda chegou a gravar a solo, antes de cair nuam imensa depressão de que verdadeiramente só viria a recuperar em 1995 com os rendimentos da Antologia.

Era Pete Best na bateria, Tony Waddington na guitarra e voz, Wayne Bickerton no baixo e voz e ainda dois saxofonistas, Trevor e Bill.

Chegaram a abrir para Roy Orbison no Canadá, mas por volta de 1968 tudo acabou.

Bickerton e Waddington ainda gozaram mais uns 15 minutos de fama como compositores da Decca e a força por detrás das Rubettes ("Sugar Baby Love").
