Minneapolis ICE CREAM RUN EXTRAVAGANZA!!

Image
Guys, we really like EXTRAVAGANZAS! This past weekend, your two friends over here at the Big Muddy Ice Cream Blog had our most exciting adventure yet as bloggers! We've had ice cream extravaganzas before, eaten ice cream from all over the country, but nothing compares to our adventure this past weekend.  We went on an ice cream run! Yes, you read that right, we ran from ice cream shop to ice cream shop, nausea be damned! Our ice cream run was totally the brain child of Madeline and it involved four ice cream shops and three segments of running. We started at Sebastian Joe's, ran .95 miles to Milkjam, ran 3.86 miles to Pumphouse Creamery, and then ran .87 miles to Grand Ole Creamery! Thanks Alex, Rebecca, Laurel, Somyi, Theo and Humberto for coming on this crazy adventure! Lizzy: The only one of these I had been to before was Sebastian Joe's, so I was super pumped to try all of these shops. But I will definitely need to go back to them, because I didn't get as m...

Yotopia March Madness 2!

Image
So much yogurt excitement. This past week was all of the round 2 match ups for Yotopia's March Madness. Since this isn't actually my day job (and oh how at times I wish it was), I really did not have time to go to Yotopia everyday these past few weeks to try all 12 of the March Madness flavors. But luckily, two of the flavors I thought sounded the most exciting, Chai Tea Spice and Taro Root, won their first round match ups, so I had another chance to try them during the second round. Taro on the left, Chai on the right! Wednesday afternoon, Charlie and I walked over to Yotopia to try the March Madness flavors. Again, I filled up on the March Madness flavors and limited my toppings so I could make a good decision about which was better. Reviewing froyo flavors is one thing, having to definitively decide one flavor is better than other is super tough. I'll start with the Taro Root. Charlie was super excited about the Taro Root and liked it because he said it was...

Grand Ole Creamery

Image
I finally visited  Grand Ole Creamery , a St. Paul ice cream institution!  It's 30 years old and was the first ice cream parlor in St. Paul to serve super-premium ice cream!  I haven't heard much about Grand Ole Creamery, so I didn't really know what to expect. Kyle and I drove over to the St. Paul location on Monday night.  We parked a few blocks away and walked over to the shop. They have a giant ice cream cone for a sign, so there was no missing it, but the door was set back from the sidewalk so I almost walked right by.  The ice cream freezer/display was to the right immediately as you walked in the door.  There was only one other family in line with us, but because the line was so close to the door it felt suuuuuper crowded.  There wasn't a lot of room to wander the counter to look at all the flavors.  I felt too rushed and like I was taking up too much space as I asked to sample a couple flavors.  I could see how this could become an...
