Coconuts for Caramel Core

Image
I keep reading the name of this flavor as coocoo for coconuts, which would be something completely different, albeit delicious. I've finally worked my way around to trying this flavor, which I was very excited about when it came out. I love coconut flakes in ice cream. The description of this flavor is Caramel & Sweet Cream Coconut Ice Cream with Fudge Flakes & a Caramel Core . Overall I really enjoyed this ice cream. I think it is my second ever core flavor after Boom Chocolatta Core. I wanted to say that first cause I have a few nit picky issues with it, and I didn't want it to sound like I didn't like the flavor. First, is a good comment. I loved the sweet cream coconut ice cream. It had a perfect balance of sweet and nutty flavors. It was also filled with coconut flakes, which are just the perfect texture in ice cream. However, the fudge flakes were also in the coconut ice cream, but not in the caramel. So there was a whole lot of texture on one side, an...

Ben & Jerry's Brownie Batter Core

Image
Without really trying, I've been on a bit of a brownie kick as of late. Maybe brownies will be the it  dessert of 2017? Like move over cupcakes and donuts, here come lots of brownies and blondies in all sorts of fun flavors? I'd be into it, but my dessert and ice cream trend predictions (wishes) don't often come true. This flavor is described as Chocolate & Vanilla Ice Cream with F udge Brownies & a Brownie Batter Core. First off, I don't have a ton to say about the bases. Nothing too exciting here, though it was nice to see simple base flavors in the core series. Other Ben & Jerry's cores have been made too busy by fancy base flavors. The brownies were good, standard delicious moist and dense Ben & Jerry's brownies. However, they seemed smaller than in other B&J's flavors that feature brownies. There also could have been just a few more of them. Last but not least, the core was interesting. My first few bites, I didn...

Ben & Jerry's Cookies and Cream Cheesecake Core

Image
Finally we have the last of the new Ben & Jerry's Core flavors for you, and it's a joint review!  This flavor is Chocolate and Cheesecake ice creams with chocolate cookies and a cheesecake core. Madeline's take: I don't know, guys. I think Ben & Jerry's tried really hard to top last year's cookie cores, and didn't even come close.  In concept the flavors sound amazing, but the execution was lacking.  I've read other reviews of this flavor and the main criticism is that it's not cheesy enough, and I have to say I agree but that I'm not surprised either.  Ben & Jerry's does not have a strong cheesecake game. The chocolate ice cream was their standard chocolate base; not much needs to be said there.  The cheesecake ice cream was not cheesy enough.  It tasted more like sweet cream ice cream with a bit of added cream cheese. I couldn't really taste the chocolate cookies against the chocolate or the cheesecake base, a...

Ben and Jerry's Brownie Batter Core

Image
About a month ago, I wistfully imagined a Ben and Jerry's chocolate cake batter flavor.  It seemed like my prayers would be answered with the new Brownie Batter Core.  Alas, it was not to be. Brownie Batter Core is described as Chocolate and vanilla ice creams with fudge brownies and a brownie batter core. I'm about to rip into this flavor, so let me clarify that this ice cream was not objectively bad, it was just sub-par for what it should have been.  First the base flavors.  Ben and Jerry's does not have a strong vanilla base or a strong chocolate base.  To me their vanilla base tastes like gross, fake vanilla.  It's not the worst on the market, but far from the best.  The chocolate is not actually that bad, I just expect a brand like Ben and Jerry's who excels in ridiculously decadent flavors specifically designed to help you get over your break-up to have a killer chocolate base.  The chocolate and vanilla bases together were just ...

Ben and Jerry's That's My Jam

Image
I'll keep this review short and sweet since Lizzy already reviewed the core flavor That's My Jam.  Of the three cores I've tried so far (all except Peanut Butter Fudge), this is by far the best.  It is described as: Chocolate and raspberry ice creams with fudge chips and a raspberry core. It has texture you can actually feel in the fudge chunks (although I still think it could be chunkier!) and the Raspberry core is top notch.  It tastes like a more viscous version of jelly doughnut jelly. Blurry, but you can really see the texture! The only grip I have with this flavor is the raspberry ice cream.  To me the flavor was really faint and totally overwhelmed by the chocolate ice cream.  In the end this wasn't a big deal because the core was raspberry flavored, so there was enough raspberry in the ice cream, but I felt there could have been more!
