Talenti Cold Brew Sorbetto (NEW!)

Image
Sooooooooo, even thought Talenti is primarily a gelato company, I think that, on average, their sorbetto is head and shoulders above their gelato. They have some pretty great gelatos, but I've thoroughly enjoyed  every  sorbetto I've tried. Talenti has this to say about their new Cold Brew Sorbetto: Fair-trade Brazilian and Colombian cold-brew coffee is blended with everything but the milk to create our Cold Brew Coffee Sorbetto.  This sorbetto was so creamy, I was SHOCKED that it was dairy-free, so I immediately checked out the ingredients. Cold Brew Coffee Sorbetto includes egg yolks, whole eggs, coconut oil, and almonds. I think the eggs probably give it a slightly stiffer, creamier texture than you normally expect from a sorbet and the coconut oil and almonds add some richness you normally get from milk and cream. True to cold-brewed coffee, the coffee flavor was intense and pure without any acidity, and there was no dairy flavor to cloud or cover cof...

Talenti Alphonso Mango

Image
I have a love-hate relationship with mangoes.  When they are good they are amazing; sweet, juicy, rich, and smooth.  Unfortunately, I've had many more bad mangoes than good mangoes in my life (maybe I am bad at choosing mangoes, or maybe I should just move to India), and when a mango is bad it is really bad.  It is a sickening, cloying, pulpy mush. Blerck. Mango ice creams and sorbets are similar. They're either really good or really bad, and Talenti's Alphonso Mango is solidly in the 'really good' camp.  Talenti says We make this exotic sorbetto simply with ripe Indian mangos, pure sugar and fresh lemon. It's free of milk, though your mouth might have trouble believing it at first. Just keep eating it until your mouth admits it was wrong and apologizes. I have to give credit where credit is due to the amazing Talenti flavor description writer. Simply sublime. If you're making an ice cream/gelato/sorbet end-of-the-world bunker, let Talenti Alphon...

New for 2016: Talenti Chocolate Sorbetto

Image
Earlier this year I tried Sweet Science's Dark Chocolate Sorbet .  A few days later I found out Chocolate Sorbet was one of Talenti's new 2016 flavors.  I was obviously excited to try this and compare to the Sweet Science version, and  I finally managed to get my hands on a pint.  This sorbetto is described as We took everything we loved about our deepest chocolate gelato and took out the milk.  Turns out, chocolate is pretty amazing on its own in this super-smooth, low-fat cocoa sorbetto. I'll review this sorbet on it's own and then give some comparisons to Sweet Science. The texture of this sorbet was awesome.  It was very fluffy and soft, bordering on mousse-like, yet still dense enough to feel decadent. Often chocolate sorbets/sorbettos taste like straight-up cocoa powder because there is no dairy to smooth and mellow things out.  Talenti mostly avoided this issue.  The chocolate was very rich and dark without being bit...

Blood Orange Throw-down!

Image
Come one, come everyone! Ladies and germs! Children and pets! Come see two flavors compete!  Come see two flavors go head to head!  Come see two flavors beat each other into a bloody pulp! (Oh dear god, I'm so sorry.  Bad puns are bad.) The contenders! So I've never done a throw-down/comparison style post here, but I thought the bloodiest flavor of them all, Blood Orange, would be a great place to start.  Also, I just happened to go to a Super Target which had two different blood orange sorbets.  Most times I go to a store I find zero blood orange flavors, so I took it as a sign that I was supposed to buy both.  It's really not hard for me to find 'signs' or 'reasons' that I'm supposed to buy more ice cream/frozen desserts. The two blood orange flavors I picked up were Talenti's Blood Orange described on their website as Made with pure juice from the blood oranges of Sicily.  What? This sorbetto wonderfully balances sweet, tart, and refre...

Talenti Roman Raspberry Sorbetto

Image
I came to the realization a while ago that I have not reviewed a sorbet yet on this blog. I'm not the biggest sorbet fan, but I am a fan of finding decent dairy-free alternatives to ice cream, and sorbet is not a bad choice for that purpose. As you know I have also been trying to become a more organized person, and Talenti containers are the way I am trying to do that. I'd also never tried any Talenti sorbet and heard really good things about it, so the Talenti Roman Raspberry was an obvious choice at HyVee the other weekend. The first thing that struck me about this sorbet is that the first ingredient of it is raspberries. I have definitely seen sorbets where the first ingredient is water or sugar. This was reflected in the taste. This sorbet tasted exactly like raspberries. Sometime raspberry sorbets can taste like a tarter version of real raspberries, which is not something I love. There was a bit of tartness that was just like real raspberries and a bit of tart/...
